Owner description: Temporarily Closed Elizabeth Tower is the name of the famous clock tower which stands at the Houses of Parliament. The name Big Ben is often used to describe the tower, the clock and the bell but the name was first given to the Great Bell. The Elizabeth Tower was completed in 1859 and the Great Clock started on 31 May. The Great Bell's strikes were heard for the first time on 11 July and the quarter bells first chimed on 7 September. All visits to Big Ben and the Elizabeth Tower tours are now suspended due to refurbishment with the last tour having taken place on 16 December 2016. Tours are scheduled to resume in early 2020 once the work is complete. Visitors can still book tickets for a number of other tours at the Houses of Parliament which take place on Saturdays throughout the year and on weekdays during Parliamentary recesses.

This is truly a landmark for London, actually for UK. You can not miss this spot if you come to London even for one day. It is near the Thames and the view is fantastic. My favorite was the night view. Trafalgar Square and London Eye is just a few steps away. Loved it!

Just had a fantastic tour right to the top of the tower. Heard Big Ben strike and the Westminster chimes. Toured the clock room and walked behind all four clock 'faces'. Absolutely BRILLIANT and FREE tour with very knowledgeable guide. This is a must-do trip but there is a caveat.... You can only be a UK citizen (security checks negate overseas persons unfortunately). You must also apply well in advance to your own MP as they 'sponsor' the trip for you (and only 16 people allowed per 3x daily tour). You are not allowed to take pictures. THERE IS NO COST and it's the best hour and a quarters city tour I have been on anywhere. If you are a Brit and need to do the tourist thing, are reasonably fit (300+ steps), and don't mind heights then get in touch with your MP. Do it NOW!

I was very excited about visiting Big Ben. I have seen it many times in travel shows and pictures and off course fridge magnets which has been given to me by my friends who had travelled to UK. Anyway it was one of the first few places I visited in London. I was amazed on how big the parliament house! The building was well maintained and looks really clean despite being so old. I didn’t miss in snapping as many photos I could while I was there. If you are travelling to London, you must visit Big Ben. Loved it.
