Owner description: Elizabeth Tower is the name of the famous clock tower which stands at the Houses of Parliament. The name Big Ben is often used to describe the tower, the clock and the bell but the name was first given to the Great Bell. The Elizabeth Tower was completed in 1859 and the Great Clock started on 31 May. The Great Bell's strikes were heard for the first time on 11 July and the quarter bells first chimed on 7 September. All visits to Big Ben and the Elizabeth Tower tours are now suspended due to refurbishment with the last tour having taken place on 16 December 2016. Tours are scheduled to resume in early 2020 once the work is complete. Visitors can still book tickets for a number of other tours at the Houses of Parliament which take place on Saturdays throughout the year and on weekdays during Parliamentary recesses.

I went as part of a bus tour but decided to go back on foot. I thought it was way better to see it up close and from below. It is difficult to believe it is such an old structure and the history behind it. Truly fascinating to hear all the stories about Guy Fawkes and after seeing it in plenty of films, to see the real thing was unmatched. Do not miss it if you are in London

Close to Westminster Abbey, Parliament House and Big Ben are THE trademark of London.
Beautiful architecture, and to hear the bells... priceless.

What a great architectural building to look at. This area is quite crowded but at least there is much in the way of area that you can take some fantastic photos.

Beautiful and surprising. I never noticed the gold gilt before seeing it in person. Disappointed that only UK residents can take tours but worth seeing to say "done that". A must do one everyone's list.

We did a boat tour and ended up near Big Ben, it was really neat being able to look at all the details. It does get pretty busy, especially on the weekends. We were also able to hear big ben, that was pretty neat. We really enjoyed the sites of London, at least before it started raining!
