“Great Staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013

I stayed 6 days at this hotel as it is within walking distance of Lord's Cricket ground. My husband, daughter and I arrived on a hot London day and were immediately offered large cold refresher towels by one front desk staff member while the other checked us in and offered us some good tips about the local area including very useful maps with advice about places to eat (avoid The Waterway - lemon sole had to be sent back and was returned looking very unappetising with accompanying salad and beans piled on top of it). The room was spacious with good amenities although it is probably on the list for a refurbishment and while it faced the main road we had no problem with the noise - had the air-con (a little difficult to understand the numbering system) running all night to keep the room cool. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in and pillows were good. Wifi costs are too high but not being big breakfast eaters and not wanting to pay GBP18 we had coffee and scroll at Starbucks and used the wifi there. The Tube station is an easy walk and goes direct to Piccadilly. Guests have free access to the adjoining Health Club. The local Pub opposite has good meals and is not expensive and there is a Tesco express close by.
I would stay at this hotel again given the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff and the Marriott beds, although if I was spending more time in a hotel room I might look for somewhere with cheaper wifi.

Room Tip: If you want total silence at night avoid rooms facing Kilburn High Road.

We stayed at this hotel over the weekend. On arrival we were immediately informed that the room that we thought we had booked via expedia (deluxe) for a family with 2 large beds, was not available...a good start. None of our booking requests had been received and we were offered a room 316 facing the main road. This smelt of smoke and you could clearly hear traffic with the windows shut. We went back down and were then offered a 'courtyard view' disabled access room 400. This had a lovely view of a brick wall and there was clear evidence of a previous flood in this room. Back to reception. We finally got a room 614 that although faced the street was higher up and you could see something other than the ugly tower block over the road.
The hotel was OK. Could do with a refurb to be honest. Any problems were swiftly dealt with by the excellent 'at your service' team.
Duncan Ballantyne's health club next door was very tatty. 3 holes in the ceiling of the swimming pool was most odd, lights on the blink, bit grimy really.
Having said all of this, it was an ok stay, could have been better with the usual Marriott attention to detail.
Make sure that you really pin them down before you arrive if you have specific requirements. I got the distinct impression that the price we paid reflected the rooms we were offered.
Food in the Fratelli restaurant pleasant enough. Drinks expensive. Tesco Express and Starbucks round the corner for DIY breakfasts!

Room Tip: 614 ok as high up from street. 400 has view of a wall. 316 smelt of cigarettes.

I just stayed here for 4 nights and while very pleased overall, the wifi issue annoyed enough to warrant a decreased rating. In 2013, there should be no Marriott hotel, at these prices, that do not offer free wifi. At a charge of 15gbp per day, it is pretty much extortion if you need to access the internet, emails etc from your room.

Now to the positives. By european standards, the room was sizeable and our maid service first rate. The bed was so incredibly comfortable, with large, puffy comforters, an assortment of pillows and crisp sheets. I actually looked forward to bedtime each night. One drawback is the noise from the street, it can be rather noisy so ask for a room that doesn't face the main road. The staff was fantastic, very helpful and very friendly. The bar area is modern and a nice place to relax if you are staying around the hotel. There is a Starbucks (if you like that sort of thing) almost next door to the hotel as well as a Tesco Express (mini-supermarket), restaurants and pubs. The Kilburn Park underground is only 7 minutes walking distance making access to central London a breeze. The hotel even pre-paid for my taxi back to Victoria Station saving me the trouble and it was a lower price than the black cab we used on the way in.

While I had my doubts booking this based on other reviews, I was more than happy with my stay and if the price was right, would gladly stay here again. If the Marriott Maida Vale also includes free wifi in the room, then you will have many more satisfied customers.

Room Tip: ask for room off of the main road

I have stayed at a lot of Marriott properties across the globe and I would rate this one as below par as compared to those. The only plus at this property is the location. It is located at walking distance to the tube ( kilburn park) and the overground rail (kilburn high street). There are quite a few eating joints at walking distance. Internet is prohibitively expensive and the rate with breakfast included is quite high. I would recommend you look at a Holiday Inn Express instead of staying here. For a lower rate,HI Express offers internet and breakfast as well. The service leaves a lot to be desired. I had requested for an extension of my stay at the front desk. I was refused the same stating that there was no availability at the same room rent. I went onto the marriott website and voila. I was able to extend my stay at the same rate by booking a new room

This is the worst Marriott I remember staying in for the simple fact that reception in the evening fills up with everyone using the free wi fi. Not great !

The exec suite is a good feature but the rooms aren't great and breakfast was much more limited than in other Marriott's I have stayed in.

Dear Bruce B,

Thank you so much for your review of your recent stay with us here at our London Marriott Hotel Maida Vale.

We are sorry to learn that you found our lobby area to be quite busy during your stay. The lobby is a central location in our hotel which conveniently connects the lifts to our bar, restaurant and main reception area. Taxis are also available to order and are often done so at the concierge desk which is also located in the lobby; guests can wait in the seating areas for their taxis to arrive. We have recently introduced complimentary wifi throughout the public areas and should guests wish to take advantage of this; the lobby provides a comfortable place to do so when guests have moment spare during their daily routine.

With regards to your breakfast experience, we do apologize that you found the offerings on this occasion to be lower than the standards you expect. We strive to provide guests with a wide selection of continental and hot food options along with a dedicated omelette chef who will cook to order. We would like to reassure you that your comments will be brought up and given great consideration in future breakfast menu reviews.

We do hope to welcome you back and thank you for the feedback you have provided, it is always great to hear what we can improve on.

Kindest regards from all the team here at the London Marriott Hotel Maida Vale.

My family of 4 stayed here for 3 nights in early July. The front desk staff were very welcoming and assured me that they would send up two rollaway beds for my children. We arrived back at the hotel late after spending all day sightseeing, and was dissapointed that the beds hadn't been delivered. I called the front desk and they apologized and said it would be taken care of. A few minutes later an employee delivered only one bed and informed us that a 2nd bed wouldn't fit inside a standard room (then why did the reservation system allow me to book it??). I was obviously frustrated at this point as we just wanted to get some sleep. I went down to the front desk again, and the staff were very apologetic and upgraded us to an executive room (not much difference, but it had two queen size beds). Unfortunately the first thing we saw when we entered the room was a cockroach. Again, staff apologized and cleaned the room thoroughly the next day.To add insult to injury we weren't granted access to the executive lounge.

The breakfast was okay but lacked variety.

The bar is comfortable, and again the staff were very friendly, but there was a surprising lack of beer choices.

As stated in other posts the tube station is a short walk, and the supermarket jis even closer. The pub across the street (Queen's Arms) is a nice place to relax before heading back to the room, and the food was inexpensive.

I certainly wouldn't rush to stay at this hotel again.

We spent three nights at this hotel in London and it was fantastic. It was a 5 minute walk to the underground and the staff were very helpful. A few good restaurants in the area. The rooms were spotless and we will be back for sure. The rooms were spacious by European standards.

Room Tip: Ask at the front desk with your preference.
