“An old place, with no charm”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

Hotel is very big, with no touch of personality, no decoration of the rooms, corridors. Reception OK, no more. Rooms small, unfriendly, bathroom nothing special. Beds OK. Attention : No Wifi in rooms, you have to go in the lobby to find a mediocre connection.

Breakfast room huge and noisy, service unfriendly (as is the whole place).

However, prices are reasonable and the situation nearby main train stations, university and metro/bus lines makes this place practical even if dull and unattractive.

Located in Russell square a few mins walk from the Tube.
Check in process was smooth - they will keep your bags for you if your room isn't ready.
Foyer area is distinctly lacking in atmosphere should you need to spend any time there.
A friend and I stayed here on a cheap weekend deal. Our twin room was clean, comfortable and adequate, looking out over Tavistock square. bathroom was fine, with several small bars of soap but no shower gel or other toiletries. The TV did not work, not that it mattered to us. There are not enough lifts to cope with the guests - sometimes we had to wait ages for one and when it arrived it was full. Easier to use the stairs (if you can find them). The hotel is on a corner of 2 main roads and can be noisy.
We had full English breakfast included in our deal and this was fine, buffet service with plenty of choice, but tea and coffee waiter service so you had to ask if you wanted more.
The worst thing about this hotel is the depressing bar! Miserable staff, awful dull furniture, poor choice of (expensive) drinks. There was football on the TV on the Saturday night, even though no-one seemed to be watching it, and it was really loud. Yet there is a snack bar/wine bar called Jacques attached to the hotel which is open during the day, and the food and drinks are very reasonable there, if not exactly 'haute cuisine'.
After check out they will look after your bags at 50p a time.
Overall this hotel was fine for what we wanted, as we weren't in it much, and for the price, which was next to nothing. But if you want to spend time in an upmarket hotel then avoid!

Nothing fancy but in a good location for getting around London, room a bit small but adequate, needed the heating on as it was cold, the pillows are dreadful: so thin. The room was clean and kept tidy, but the bathroom was freezing as no heating in there, and the floor got soaked every time the shower was used.
Breakfast adequate you could eat as much as you wanted, shame there was no yoghurt to go with the continental breakfast. Don't know if we would stay there again, prefer the Imperial.

Good location, clean and tidy, helpful staff 10/15 mins easy walk from Euston, 20/30 mins walk to theatre land. dropped of bags early, and left them after we had checked out so we did not have to drag them around all day. Breakfast ok, rubber eggs, not much choice of cooked breakfast for veggies.

Room Tip: Go for one overlooking Tavistock Square

Found this hotel in the internet, good priced London hotel close to three main line train stations. A little tired in bedroom decor, but query lobby in 1920's style. A fabulous included breakfast with lots to choose from including fish. If you are looking for a respectable, reasonable London hotel then this has to be a contender, will certainly stay again.
