“Clean efficient and good value”

Stayed here en route to an early Eurostar train and it was excellent and supplied breakfast early enough for us to leave in good time. A bit noisy but so close to St Pancras that was to be expected. We will stay here again in future.

Room was tiny and basic (in a property across the road) but clean and had everything we needed. Only stayed 2 nights but had unexpected room service (which was excellent). Very noisy but we had windows open because of the heat, and the location meant it was always going to be noisy. Breakfast couldn't be faulted even though it was across the road - overall good if a little claustrophobic and lacking the personal touch.

We enjoyed staying at The Alhambra Hotel last Friday night. We found it was very clean and cosy. It was nice staying in a family business hotel with a personal touch. And the owners and staff were very friendly.
We would be happy to book a room at the hotel again, when we visit London in the future.

Stayed one night after a very long flight prior to catching a train to the north from Kings Cross station. Incidentally if you are travelling from Gatwick and need to be in Kings Cross, I would recommend catching the First Capital Connect train to St Pancras (which is next to Kings Cross) which takes about 50 minutes but is a direct service rather than the more expensive Gatwick Express which involves a change at Victoria. The family who run the Alhambra are brilliant and we couldn't, and wouldn't want to, fault the friendly, helpful staff. The chap on reception was extremely pleasant and had no problems storing prescription eye drops which had to be kept at a low temperature in a fridge. The hotel was clean and breakfast was lovely offering a choice of full English (with veggie option) cooked or continental. The hotel was very easy to find up one of the side streets opposite Kings Cross. The room however was the smallest I have ever encountered with the stairwell to the next floor taking up some of the ceiling . It was extremely narrow and the double bed which was pushed against the wall, came half way over the window. The en suite facilities were in what looked to be a converted cupboard with tiny shower and the toilet coming a little way under the wash basin which meant unless you were very small you were in danger of banging into the basin whenever you used the toilet. There was a step up to this facility which was small enough not to be noticed at first so I immediately tripped up on it. I am not generally subject to claustrophobia but felt it in this ridiculously small room. It was a warm evening and the room was very hot, even the mobile fan which was available hardly cooling it down sufficient to sleep. The website states there is a writing desk and flat screen TV in all rooms. Yes, there was a shelf below the mirror and above the radiator at the bottom of the bed which would constitute a writing desk and there was a small flat TV over to one side on the stairwell wall. The biggest issue however was that because it is a listed building there is no lift installed and the stairs are very narrow, steep and winding. Although the kind chap on reception took one case up for us we still had to lug the other case up two flights and both cases down again the next morning. I dare say the staff would have taken both cases up and down if we had asked but we would still have had to get ourselves up and down the stairs. Whilst this doesn't sound difficult, we are both older ladies and one of us has visual spatial awareness problems so fear of missing a step and falling was a real issue. It took us a while to get up and down those stairs. If there is anything on the hotel's website stating there is no lift, I cannot find it. There is a hefty 3% surcharge on use of a credit card but this at least is stated on the website. So this is a good hotel with friendly, helpful staff and a lovely breakfast but if anyone has any type of mobility problems or is subject to claustrophobia and want to book this hotel I would recommend contacting them in advance to see what can be offered in terms of help or advice. I personally didn't think £130 for one night was a budget price but London is a major city and the cost of a room anywhere isn't cheap. I do think as well that it should be stated very clearly on the website that there is no lift available.

Dear Guest,

We are sorry to hear that we have not fully met your expectations during your last visit at the Alhambra Hotel.

We are glad that you found the ROOMS CLEAN and FRIENDLY STAFF but felt that the rooms were small. Unfortunately, and becauseof the CENTRAL LOCATION, rooms are not large in central London.

Also because of listing regulations we are unable to have a lift but we do offer assistance at all times.

Kind Regards

Stayed here a couple of nights ago for one night and was pleasantly surprised. Was a tad worried when I was told I was in the building across the street (other hotels have done this to me also and it has never been good) but room was spotless and fine for my needs. Bathroom was tiny but again absolutely fine if you are on your own or only there for a night or two. Big bonus was the cooked breakfast which was great and the shared areas of the hotel, including the dining room, were clean and bright.
All in all a really good budget option and having stayed in a few different hotels in the immediate area I'd definitely say this was the best.

This is an excellent hotel for a budget short-term stay. The location is great, near Kings Cross St Pancras, mans handy for getting to Eurostar and London transport. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable, but be aware that the rooms are small. We were able to get around by keeping luggage under the beds. Although it is in a street very near the station, the street is surprisingly quiet. Breakfast, especially the English breakfast, was very good. Maybe most important, the staff are absolutely stellar. We felt welcomed and comfortable and would return.
