Stayed here for 1 night in May 2011, and found it to be clean, friendly, but lacking in comfort. The beds were basic bunks, the pillows might as well have been empty, and the four share dorm I was in was very squishy once full. The shared bathrooms were clean, but the showers have only two settings - off and boiling, and the water runs on a push button that lasts for about 20-30 seconds before it shuts off. Still, as my first hostel experience, I found it conveniently located for the trains, the staff friendly, and the downstairs common area comfy. For a 1-2 nights stay it is well worth the money, but I wouldn't stay longer than that.

Helo Gem537,

Thanks for your feedback and comments. We are glad you found staff helpfull and hostel clean.
You will be pleased to hear that we have now changed all duvets and pillows, from last month they are much better quality and that results in a good night's sleep.
As bathrooms are fully finished, we don't have push buttons anymore, which gives you full control of the water temperature in shower.

We hope we will see you soon again, and you will have even better hostel experience.

The hostel is not great. I don't know where the pictures on the website were taken, but my room looked nothing like what was advertised. The room was too small for 6 people- I had to sleep with my luggage on my bed. The windows were so old they didn't shut properly, so we had the noise from the street coming in all night long. The bathrooms weren't great either. The staff were friendly enough and the breakfast was pretty nice, but I wouldn't never stay there again. The location is ok- very close to Kings Cross Station, but other than the British Library there are no major sights nearby, so I was constantly having to use the tube to get around, which can be quite expensive. I would recommend staying somewhere closer to the heart of the city.

Dear Lina_Theresa,

Thank you for your feedback, it is always good to hear constructive criticism.
We would like to inform you that we are in a process to replace all windows in the building, which will make our guest's experience much nicer as you'll hear less noise from the street.
Our bathrooms have just been refurbished, and as such have individual cubicles with hooks, shower curtains and each of them is lockable for more privacy. We are having a very good feedback about our bathroom facilities therefore it's surprising you didn't feel the same way.
As to the location, we wish you would've approached our front desk for some suggestions as to what is there to do in the area. British Library is just one of the many things to do -you could have walked to Charles Dickens museum, British museum, use the canal side to walk to Camden town -it's all walkable distance and is so much more attractive then usual touristic sights. We also have made it easier for our guests to have some ideas for the day -on our black board in reception area, all you need to have is enthusiasm and positive outlook, London has so much to offer, every single part of it.

We wish you happy travels and hope to see you again.

If you need a place to rest your head, it will do, but I wouldn't make appoint to spend much time there. Clink78 lobby looks much nicer and has a bar and travel shop. 261 isn't in a great neighborhood, but is close to kings cross/st pancras. The YHA down on Euston looks a lot nicer.

We stayed here for 10 nights in March. The location is great, only a few minutes walk to Kings Cross Station. Walking distance to lots of shops and the British Library. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fine, toast, cereal, coffee, tea, hot chocolate. The shared kitchen was good.

There were a couple of downsides. Firstly, there was no girls bathroom on the floor we stayed on and not enough toilets/showers to cope with the demand in the morning. There was hardly any hot water in the morning, I had to wait 30 minutes one morning for a cold shower. Definitely shower at night when it is less busy!

Secondly we had to pay for Wifi which only worked in the reception and common room. This is the only place we have stayed at in three months of travel that has charged for Wifi. We found the best place for Wifi was at the British Library just down the road, which is a great place to hang out. Don't bother paying the 2 pounds per hour that they charge.

Despite these couple of issues, we enjoyed our stay. The place has a good vibe and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Staff were nice and helpful.

Location excellent 7 mins walk from Kings cross tube, 15 mins walk from Chancery Lane. Plenty of shops, pubs near by. Walk 30 mins in any direction you are guaranteed to come to nice parks and museums.

Hostel was clean and had good facilities. There are lifts.

Breakfast was OK - at clink 78 breakfast is better. Two types of cereal, one type of juice, toast, milk, tea, coffee, 3 types of jam.

The down side - wifi was 5.00 a day! - I felt this was very costly. No bar at the hostel - however many bars close by.

The worst bit was the dorm the beds are all squashed up together, 18 beds in a room that small is just silly, if they had put 14 beds in the room it would have being fine, you can only enter the bed from the end rather than the side. Grrr the person who had the bunk below mine had a LOT of stuff and it was in the way of my ladder, they refused to move their stuff and so getting in and out of bed was very difficult and dangerous as I had to climb over their stuff. The guy in the top bunk next to me - bear in mind he was only 6 inchs from me was very very sick with a bad cold and snored all night, he dint just keep me awake but kept many other people awake too- guess what I caught this cold! To be honest I think he was so sick he should of being made to sleep somewhere else in the interest of public health.

One think that would improve it is more hooks - they cost a few pounds and would mean people could at least hang their stuff up. For a start a hook on the back of each door in the showers, where the hair dryer and sink is a little shelf or even a hook would make life easier and the same in the bed rooms, a row of cheap hooks and shelf next to the sink to put your make up on would at least mean you can put stuff somewhere other than the floor or in the sink.

I stayed for 5 nights (26th April - 2nd May 2012), and everything was great (staff was friendly and available 24 hours/day).

Location of hostel was really near the centre (if you're in good fitness condition, you can walk to the centre - approx 30 - 45 minutes). I recommend to walk to the centre cause its great experience. But If you prefer to use underground or buses you can walk - about 5 minutes to the King Cross and St. Pancrass station.

Beds are comfortable but not very clean. Staff were helpful but everything costs money - Wifi, Towels, Sheets etc. Hot water was minimal at best (and the showers themselves were pretty grotty also) Location reasonable for transport links but rooms themselves were loud and cold. Heating at a premium throughout the complex. Free breakfast was a nice touch, however I was underwhelmed at every step of my accomodation. You can do better.

Room Tip: Try and get a room that doesn't face Grays Inn Road - It's a busy thoroughfare the whole nig...

Hello Samuel,

Thanks for leaving review about your stay at Clink261, we appreciate every feedback, as that helps us to improve our services.
We are glad you found our staff helpful and friendly, it is very nice to hear positive things as we take pride in our customer service.
Regarding facilities - we are constantly trying to improve. Recently we have finished refurbishment of all our bathrooms, and we have had very positive feedback since then. I hope you'll be able to see it yourself if you happen to be in London again.
We are surprised you mentioned about having to pay for sheets - our linen has always been a free service, the only things you pay for is little extras like padlocks, adapters, towels etc. We are also looking into getting a good offer for our guests for WiFi, so I hope our future guests will find that we work very hard to facilitate all needs.
We wish you happy travels and hope to see you again.
