“Great location. Great stay.”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

We were quite happy with our accommodations at the Arosfa. We stayed in room 2 for three nights, and it was spacious, with one of the nicest bathrooms we came across in our three weeks in the UK. Shower was roomy (even if it was a bit of a squeeze to get through the door) and the room was nicely decorated. Being on the ground floor was very convenient, too, as the hotel does not have a lift, so you'd be hauling your luggage up the stairs.

Location is perfect, there are so many great restaurants in Bloomsbury and Fitzrovia. You are near to a few different tube stops, and there are always people about, so it's very safe.

Breakfast was plentiful, and service was attentive, if not warm and friendly. Just a note ... when they say breakfast is from 7:30-9:30, they mean they will be packing things up at 9:30! We learned that the first morning when we got up to refill our juice glasses and the breakfast bar was already cleared. We did ask for more juice, and the server grudgingly got some for us.

As you have probably already read, from countless reviews, the rooms are quite small. However, you are in a 200 yr old building that was once someone's home so it is not exactly going to be perfectly suited for a hotel. But, it comes very close. We stayed at Arosfa for a total of nine days. We were very pleased with it. Me and my family rented two rooms but I will only speak for mine. I had the very small room big enough for one person. It was recently remodeled so I was quite pleased. The bed was a twin that was elevated enough for me to store most of my luggage. The bathroom was adequate size with a large shower. The cleaning staff did a wonderful job of cleaning around my mess of souvenirs, electronics and shoes. The hotel has a convienant and tasty breakfast with many options and a nice dining room. The location is very good. We were about 3 blocks from Euston Square underground station. This station is great for getting to St. Pancreas International, Paddington and Kings Cross. Then there is Goodge which is about 3-4 blocks away and is good for getting the underground. Buses run infront on Gower street almost every 5 minutes during the day and there are a couple of 24 hour buses that run. The nearest bus station is across the street about 15 feet down. A lot of taxis can be picked up on the corner as well. It only took me 15 minutes to walk to Goodge station and ride the underground to Westminster Abbey. The place is kept very clean, they keep all the lights on even if you are coming in really late and it is an overall good experience. Plus the staff is AMAZING!

My friend and I had an overnight stay here so can only comment on that stay. It's only 0.5 miles from euston station so in that respect very handy. They are in the process of refurbishing rooms but our room wasn't one of those. We booked a twin room but was given a triple room at no extra cost and grateful for that.
Our room was 3 flights up ( No 15 ) which wasn't a problem for us but be aware I don't think there is a lift.( I apologise if i am wrong.) The room although small was adequate for our needs, the toilet/shower room also was adequate though there was a step up to enter into it, which you have remember when coming out.
We were on the front of the hotel and had no problems with street noise.
It was clean, it was comfortable and had a nice touch with fruit ( 3 apples, and 1 bottled water)
The breakfast which is included in the price was extremely good. Faultless!
Service at breakfast was excellent also. Well done.
I would not hesitate to revisit.
Thank you to all the staff of this nice hotel.

I stayed here for one night in a single room. It was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. Ensuite is small, but that was not an issue. Staff provide excellent customer service. Look forward to staying here again. If you have any special dietary needs, please let them know in advance and they will cater for you.

I always thoroughly research hotels before booking. With the Arosfa the main things that seemed to come up in the bad reviews were the room size and the street noise at the front. For this reason I emailed the hotel in advance and asked in a friendly way if we could have a room at the back (to avoid noise) and asked if we could be put in one of the refurbished rooms. The reply came back saying that none of the back rooms were available (no mention of the refurbished rooms). Surely not everyone at the back of the hotel had requested to be there, so why couldn't we have been switched with someone who had not specifically requested the back? So, it turned out that our room was at the top of the hotel (quite a climb for anyone with physical problems) and was at the front. The room was tiny (if I stretched out my arms I could almost touch both walls), not big enough for 2 people... really a single room size with twin narrow beds. The "bathroom" was, as some others have commented, slightly bigger than an airplane washroom. I've never seen anything like it in a hotel. The room was roasting, we had to keep the window open which of course let the thunderous traffic noise in making it impossible to get to sleep. There was a ceiling fan which was the only thing that saved our lives I think. The breakfast was ok, nothing special, but with quite a good selection on offer. No complaints on that front really.
On a positive note, the hotel is in a really good location within walking distance to theatres etc so we were pleased with that.
It's a shame because I really wanted to like this hotel and if we'd been given the sort of room we requested we probably would have given 4-5 stars and come back again and again. On the way out we got a glimpse of a room being cleaned on the ground floor and it looked really nice with a fireplace and everything....grrrrrr.
In summary, I'd advise you to get some sort of guarantee on the room you're getting and if you're going to be in the sort of room we were in, stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: Get a guarantee that the room is a decent sized refurbished one, preferably at the back.

We stayed here again for the fourth time. The rooms do vary in size but they are always very comfortable and clean and the hosts very helpful and friendly. Breakfast very good. Excellent location for tube and bus and only a short walk to the British Museum. Really excellent value for money, already booked our next stay.

Not a bad little place, but not quite as good as others we stayed at. The family suite was a nice size, bad the other rooms we saw were rather small. The suite was actually two rooms with a connecting hallway, with one of the rooms having a small kitchen. The bathroom was in the hallway between the two rooms. Bed linens were new, and the décor was nice, but the building structure may need some work. Lots of creaking floors at night. The bathroom certainly needs an upgrade. There was also no air conditioning. On the positive side, the beds were comfortable, the rooms clean, and the breakfast was very good. We stayed in the Kensington area prior to this and did like that area better. But, this location also had its positives. It was close to Big Ben, the London Eye, etc.... only one tube ride away.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Arosfa Hotel is a refurbished 200-year old Georgian Town House in the heart of historic Bloomsbury district, the former home of the famous Pre-Raphaelite artist Sir John Everett Millais. The cool white garden squares and wide streets of Bloomsbury have been a pull to thinkers for centuries, and it sometimes seems like every second house has a blue plaque denoting that a great writer, scientist or philosopher once inhabited the building. It was in Bloomsbury that Karl Marx created communism, Virginia Woolf defined the twentieth century British novel, and Charles Darwin first conceived the theory of natural selection. The imposing bulk of the British Museum, home to seven millennia of human art and artefacts, dominates the area, and there are plenty of other academic institutions including Birkbeck College, the beautiful University of London Library, and RADA, London's grandest drama school. ... more   less
