Description: After a hard morning trawling the market or a day behind a desk in the City, there are few places more perfect for relaxing and unwinding than The Smithfield Tandoori, recommended by no less than The Evening Standards Charles Campion as one of his picks for London curry. Proudly traditional in its cooking style, The Smithfield Tandoori concentrates on food, leaving its dining room simple and unfussy, decorated in red and white with high ceilings and unpretentious furnishings, providing an atmosphere which really does make visitors concentrate on flavours and aromas, not to mention the warm, professional service. Sourcing local ingredients wherever possible, The Smithfield Tandoori makes use of the wealth of market traders around the capital, using fresh and traceable produce in authentic Tandoori and regional Indian dishes. The kitchen insists not only on making up all their own curry pastes, but in eschewing all unnatural additives, meaning that The Smithfield Tandoori is one of only a few Indian restaurants in the capital where home-cooked really means something.

“Good Food, Great Service, Nice Decor”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2014

If you are looking for a very good, authentic Indian in London you should try the Smithfield Tandoori. It's lovely inside, cozy, low level lighting but it has a very modern feel. There are plenty of staff to make sure you never have to wait for anything and it's really easy to find because it's right where the old meat market is (Farringdon nearest tube). I was in a party of 15 which was catered very well considering how many of us there was.

The food is really very good. I was offered a main menu and a specials menu. It felt authentic and the mixed starters/sauces were things I hadn't seen or tried before. I had the lamb chops because I ate early January and I was trying to lose weight! I didn't want rich sauce :) The chops were exceptional.

“Dark and expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2013

This is a restaurant for business people to eat a posh curry with other business people. Large impersonal room with little lighting and no atmosphere. Food was ok, but expensive and there are so many better curry places to eat in London.

“Excellent Indian Cuisine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

My wife and I visited. I had a mixed grill Tandori and she enjoyed a Shrimp dish. Service was excellent, and food was perfectly cooked. A few Cobra beers were very good too. Highly recommended. for a good Indian dinner.

“Back again!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2013

Just got back from a fantastic meal at Smithfield Tandoori.
This place is a real gem.Had the best Indian food in London.Service is excellent and I had a chat with the owner and told him how much I enjoyed the place.
Mr Khan the Manager is a great chap and takes very good care of you.If you are in the Smithfield / St Paul's area well worth a visit.Tonight it got very busy and had a real good vibe.
Food is excellent.

“Modern decor, interesting food and an unusual range of ales”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2013 via mobile

I went here with a group of friends on Thursday evening (9pm). We had booked which was just as well because it was very busy.

The restaurant is a large open plan square and done up in a modern style. So plenty of atmosphere, in fact a tad too noisy for me with the noise of diners talking loudly echoing in the space.

The menu does not have the usual range of madras, vindaloo, etc and I ordered a Chicken Kolhapuri which was fiery and very tasty. The plain naan was light and very well cooked. I could not fault the food.

A nice surprise was a large range of English ales. These are served in bottles so no worries about how they are kept.

Very attentive service and reasonable value given the location and quality.
