“Good location, spacious”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2013

We booked a fixed price, non cancellable, room for a good price, given the location and quality of the hotel. Friendly staff at Reception offered us an 'upgrade' - a bigger room on a higher floor. it was actually designed for disabled access, which meant the washbasin in the bathroom was rather low, but a minor point which didn't inconvenience us. Pluses - good location. Excellent, large, very comfortable bed, well fitted out room, lovely bathroom with a very powerful shower, good big towels and nice toiletries. Decent amount of hanging space in the cupboard, room well lit, decent mirrors, sensibly located, well stocked and reasonably priced mini bar. Minuses - the rest of the bedroom furniture was pretty poor quality, as were the sofas/armchairs in the bar, thin, worn cushions don't make for a comfortable place to sit and chill. The powerful shower is installed in such a way that half the bathroom floor is covered with water whilst showering, no matter how we rearranged the shower curtain - fellow guests mentioned the same issue. Hairdryer fixed inside a drawer with a button you have to hold down with your thumb to use - a regular annoyance and I'd have expected better from an up market hotel of this kind. Although mentioned briefly on the website, I was surprised to be asked for photo ID on check in - we didn't have any, and this isn't a legal requirement in UK as far as I know. Choice of wine by the glass in the bar isn't great, and the glass of water I requested simply never materialised. Service, generally, is efficient but a bit impersonal. Generally, very happy with our stay and would definitely recommend. We didn't use the spa or have breakfast although continental breakfast was included in our rate.

We stayed here on 19th January and really enjoyed our stay.

Having read some of the reviews on here, I emailed in advance with a few requests, including asking for a room on one of the higher floors for a better view, and whether we could use the Spa before we check-in to make the most use of it as possible. They said they would see what they could do with the room, and that we could use the Spa whenever, and if we arrived before check-in, we could leave our bags with them.

With check-in at 15:00, we arrived nearly two hours early and we immediately checked-in - this was great as it meant we could get settled in before we used the spa. This obviously was only possible because they had a room available at that time, so it might not always happen, but we were really please. One downside of the this, however, was that we were only on the seventh floor so the views weren't amazing, but given that we were two hours early, we weren't complaining!

The Spa itself is really nice. Five or so loungers, a good sized pool, a warm and relaxing Jacuzzi, a steam room and a sauna, as well as a foot spa with either warm or cold water. We spent several hours here on the Saturday afternoon, and I went for a swim before check-out on the Sunday. At no point was it excessively busy, with 5-12 people at any time. I can't speak for the gym, but when choosing between a good hotel without a spa, or a good hotel with one, I'd be happy to pay a little bit extra to get the sort of facilities that we got at the Grange Tower Bridge Hotel.

The hotel has good transport links - a 5-10 walk to either Aldgate East (district or metropolitan lines), Tower Gateway (DLR) and Tower Hill (District and Circle)

We had a good nights sleep. The pillows were a little soft for my liking, but that's personal choice.

The bathroom is also well equipped, with a great shower that has several jets of water coming from different directions and a medium-sized bath.

We had a room-only deal and so didn't have breakfast at the hotel so can't comment there.

Would recommend!

This place is gorgeous. Lovely decor, lovely staff. Amazing bathrooms. The biggest jacuzzi I have ever been in and views over london that are stunning from the higher floors . There are tube stations within a few minutes walk and a bus direct to theatre land . There are just 2 small points that stop it from being perfect. The swimming pool was cold, almost to the point of being uncomfortable for me and the breakfast wasn't worth the cost.

Very large and spacious rooms especially for London. I was on the top (11th floor) and had views to Tower Bridge. In the part of the hotel I was in, there was only one other room so it was very quiet. I stayed here for a week.

Only hiccups I had was on the first day, housekeeping tried to clean the room early even though I had the "do not disturb" sign on. However, when she noticed it she was most apologetic. Also the window cleaners were doing the outside of the building and it was quite a shock to see them cleaning my windows while I was lying in bed! I think they have been more shocked than me :-) Perhaps the hotel should have informed me/other guest of the fact that the windows were being cleaned and to keep the curtains closed.

However, this was not enough to make me give them any less of a review or a five star rating. Staff were most helpful and pleasant.

Location is great for people wanting to visit the East End of London eg Tower Bridge, London Bridge, Brick Lane markets, Spitalfields are all close by.

Also a small Tesco is around the corner if you want to buy some snacks.

Be warned, the bar fridge is a monitored one so you cant put your own food and drinks in it.

Room Tip: Try and get the 11th floor

We got a great deal at this hotel for one double and one twin rooms from the secret hotel scheme on laterooms.com and it was incredible. Rooms were emaculate, I didnt want to the leave the bathroom, the staff were ok and we didnt try the food but off of the rooms alone I will definately be returning.

Stayed on a Friday night in January. Room was a reasonable size with a very comfortable bed and a view of the Gherkin. Bathroom was very clean with its own Ajala Spa toiletries. All very quiet and peaceful. Didn't seem to have any bathrobes in the room but maybe these are available on request. The swimming pool and jacuzzi area was lovely, however the pool was slightly cooler than we'd have liked. The free wifi worked in our room even on the 7th floor which was good. Didn't have the breakfast as it wasn't included in our room rate and I believe they charge £18 per person... we had a much cheaper breakfast down the road, but the restaurant did look nice in passing. Great location only a short walk away from Tower Hill tube station and to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Would recommend walking the 15 mins up the road to Heron Tower for a cocktail at Sushi Samba or Duck & Waffle on the 38/39th floor. Concierge very friendly and knowledgeable - looked after our suitcase after check-out whilst we went for a day out in the city. Would definitely return to this hotel.

Stayed one snowy night in January. The location is great - only five mins walk from the tube. Staff were polite and standards of cleanliness, furnishings etc was high. The amenities - gym and sauna, pool, steam room etc were lovely to unwind in. No complaints. I'd stay here again.
