We try to come down to London to visit our grandchildren during their school holidays. My daughter recently moved close to the hotel and this was our first experience at the National Hotel. All I can say is that I'm glad my husband decided to take the risk in staying here, considering the recent reviews.

I suppose different rooms have different standards and people may have a certain level of expectation but my experience relates to our particular room and our experience at the hotel.

Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. As we are from up north we love our cups of tea. We requested if it was possible to have tea/coffee making facilities in our room.
The staff were more than willing to provide us with this as well as irons and hair dryer. All we did was ask, and they could not have been more helpful in assisting us.

Of course the place is far from being luxurious, and the room was fairly basic, but I suppose nobody will expect luxury for that price. Compared to the other nearby hotels who are charging a lot more this was very good value for money considering we are in a fantastic part of London. We were seconds away from cinemas, restaurant and toy shops.

Overall our stay suited our needs, clean bed, comfortable room, with parking, with a great breakfast to start us both off, before we spent a fun filled day with our grandchildren who we now see more regular.!

This was a hotel recommended to us.

The room was clean and the service good in contrast to the previous reviews.

The manager was very knowledgeable and helpful in pointing out the local transport links and traveling to central London was very convenient

All In all I would highly recommend this hotel and is a reasonable bet compared to the others nearby

I booked this hotel as I wanted to be near my son's flat during a trip for his graduation ceremony. The website is very professional as are the photographs, so thought it looked fine. However I could not find any reviews until the day before we arrived and was horrified at what was written. Too late to change so off we went.
Not being mean, but I will be honest. The outside looks fair, inside the place is tired and very dated. They have made a spot of effort here and there though nothing consistent eg one window painted on the stairs but nothing else. The room we stayed in was not scruffy but not great either, carpet reasonably new, but skirting boards very dusty. Tatty furniture, the curtains were falling down at the ends, and the bathroom, although they provided new soap, that was it, and well, sorry I would not use that loo. It simply was not cleaned enough they should be spotless. The sheets were clean and so were the towels provided. Bed not comfortable woke with a really bad back and you get one very thin pillow. No kettle or cups or tumblers in the bathroom. The television works in a fashion but has a portable ariel so not worth it. It smells old and a bit musty.(and a tap for drinking water on the stairs? whats all that about). The windows are old and it was cold, as it felt very drafty, which also meant it was noisy from the road. We did not have breakfast even though it was included, but that was our choice as I met my sons for breakfast elsewhere so cannot comment on this. The upside was 24hr reception, they do have cctv, parking available at the back, but don't have anything bigger than a picasso and the staff were friendly and as I took my own kettle they were happy to give me cups.
Most memorable moment which I don't think I will ever forget, we arrived back to change for dinner the man at reception said as I approached, oh yes you are the special room, when I asked what he was talking about and for our key, he back tracked very quickly and said oh no matter forget it. Yuk does that mean they rent rooms by the hour.
My advice, fine if there is nothing else, otherwise spend a few more pounds and get value for your money

We did not pre book this hotel, we were moved here by the shocking hotel we had pre booked.
This hotel is dirty inside. The rooms are disgusting, old carpets, old wallpaper, dirty windows. Unhelpful staff.
We were told breakfast was 7-10 as advertised downstairs but when we arrived down for it we were actually it's 9 on Sunday's! Ridiculous but probably a blessing really as I wouldn't have wanted to eat there the place was that dirty! We were given an old used carton of happy shopper orange juice for breakfast and told to bring it back. Needless to say we could not leave fast enough!

Firstly couldn't find room then when we did we walked into a dump. The en suite, well where do I start, the toilet lid broken off and dumped behind the toilet, don't think the toilet bowl had seen bleach in months as it was yellow. The tiled floor was covered in hair of all kinds, the shower was hanging off the wall and there were no hand towels. Then we went into the room and were welcomed with a note on the window "BROKEN WINDOW DO NOT OPEN" we didn't need to open it there was an inch gap around it so the room was open to the outside all day and night. The covers on the beds were stained but luckily the sheets under were clean, but as you can guess that was the only thing that was clean. As for the room being cleaned everyday, the only thing that was cleaned was the bathroom bin being emptied. This is a poor excuse of a hotel.
