“A lovely gem in a big city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013 via mobile

Spent hours here - great cafe with good food, lots of space for energetic children, bowling green with tea and coffee, adventure play ground and quiet spaces. Lots of parking.

“Lovely local park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

A fine local park, not as glamorous as Dulwich, but more of a community vibe. Large playing fields, manicured gardens, giant trees, stream running through it, nice cafe and lawn bowls. Also has several nice pubs close by. Good for frisbee, footy, picnics or just a stroll.

“Nice and active. Good for dogs”

I always go to this park. The gardens are very neat and pretty. Plenty of dogs and children around the park in warm days. Worth more than one visit!

“Lovely and tranquil Victorian park with a nice cafe and adventure playground”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2011

Peckham Rye Park is less well-known than many of London's Victorian parks (perhaps the Peckham in the name puts people off, though actually much of it is bordered by East Dulwich, Honor Oak and Nunhead), but shares many of their typical attractions. On the north and west sides, it merges into Peckham Rye Common, a large green area with plenty of space for football, running around etc - William Blake had his vision of angels here in the 18th century.

Within the park are a couple of well-kept formal gardens - an English walled garden with lovely roses and a Japanese garden by the small river that runs through the park. There is also a dog free area, very pleasant for picnics. The main playground is a bit disappointing, not one of Southwark's more exciting, but on the eastern edge of the park there is the much more adventure playground with big exciting wooden structures to climb and swing around on - you need to come during its opening hours. There is also a new green gym and a very good quality and popular cafe. All in all a very pleasant place to while away an afternoon. As well as the park cafe, there are also some good places to eat on the edge of the park, mosty with out-door space: the Herne with its lovely garden playground at the southern tip, the substantial Rye Hotel on the north-east side, the Young's brewery Clock House on the east side and nearby, the Gardens cafe, a lovely new tea room in a converted electricity show room.
