Description: Dining at Canteen is as much about the aesthetic experience as the menu both of which showcase the best of British produce and craftsmanship. Located in Londons Canada Square, between the Canary Wharf DLR and tube stations, Canteen is a chic, unfussy space dedicated to casual all-day dining and Canary Wharf workers stop by for coffees, elevenses, sandwiches, freshly cooked pies and cakes as well as hearty British meals. The discerning interior design is furnished with a 50s palette of muted grass greens, sky blue, red and sunny yellow paired with down-to-earth materials like oak, cork and tweed. Business and child friendly, Canteen is a stylish choice for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

Canteen in Canary Wharf is a bar for the suits from the nearby banks, masquerading as a restaurant. Do not go here expecting quality food or good service. If you are not holding a business meeting, or there to drink away a hard day's banking, then you are not the clientele they want.
The food is not bad; an interesting menu, well presented, with a good range of wines and beers, including draught from the excellent local Meantime brewery. But it is all at twice the price you'd expect and at half the level of service that would be acceptable if it weren't being put on the corporate Amex.
If you're on your expense account and want an OK meal served quickly with no attentive service, fine. Anybody else, avoid.

Lunchtime fish & chips and soft drinks for two - over £40!
For that, you'd expect great quality, right?
Well you'd be disappointed...
The breaded haddock was limp, watery and tasted stale. The small portion of seasonal veg gave the appearance of having been dredged from the Thames, and tasted little better. The 8 or so chips were quite nice, but very stingy.
Outside ambience was pleasant sitting outside, but service a little surly.
Overall - this place professes to serve great quality, simple British food, honestly priced.
Don't be fooled. You will leave feeling disappointed, short-changed and - should you elect to go for the fish - with the lingering aftertaste and bloated discomfort of it repeating on you for some hours to come.
AVOID.

There are 4 restaurants in this group across London but reviews seem to be lumped into one sop here goes. Went with a big business group and enjoyed a great English meal (although there are some concessions for wine!). Busy inside and out biut this didnt deter the staff who worked well to keep the flow of food and drinks at an appropriate rate. I had a steak which was cooked to perfection. Busy and bussling iun the heart of Canary Wharf a definite recommendation for a busy group rather than a romantic dinner!!

We stayed at the Canary Wharf Hilton for several days in January. My husband found a review of Canteen and we liked the sound of it. We ended up eating here three or four times in less than a week, for lunch, tea, and dinner. I recommend it very warmly. The food was beautifully prepared and delicious, service was friendly and efficient, the interior was modern but comfortable... I cannot say enough good things about Canteen. It reminded me of the better local restaurants from my hometown of Asheville, NC, with its emphasis on fresh local ingredients, and even the prices are quite reasonable, with really good daily specials. The only thing that is wrong with Canteen is that it is too far from my front door. If you are in London, don't miss Canteen.

This seemed to be the only place I could find for a business breakfast in Canary Wharf. To start with the staff were distinctly unhappy we hadn't booked although they seated us without problem.
Lukewarm tea arrived slowly then it was another 40 minutes before we were asked if we would like to order food and then another long wait.
I asked if the tomatoes were tinned and was told they were, what arrived was half a tiny tomato grilled to a mush, the mushroom was singular and the size of a ten pence piece, the toast one round of sliced white bread served cold.
We ordered more tea, another long wait, again served lukewarm.
The bill wasn't far short of £40 for two. Terrible value, terrible quality, terrible service.
