We stayed at the Rubens a few wks ago as the first stop of our four country European trip. The service was not surpassed by any other hotel during our trip, even the 5* ones. The staff were friendly and helpful, housekeeping was excellent, the location is central and the food pretty good too. Our 7 yo was very welcomed and made to feel very special. As a result, she felt London was her favorite stop. The guest services manager, Marta and the night manager were particularly helpful, professional and courteous. When we had an issue with our phone and wake up calls the first day, the manager rectify the situation. The rooms are a bit small (exacerbated by the rollaway bed for my daughter), as many european hotels are. But our room overlooked the Royal Mews. No sightings of the Queen however. The only problem we had that could not be solved was the wifi not working on our iphones and ipad. Even though the night manager himself came up to our room to help us solve the mystery, none of us could figure out why.
The concierge recommended the Big Bus which stopped at the front of the hotel. I bought the tickets from the hotel concierge but in retrospect it was not worth it due to our time constraints. If you have a lot of time to sit in the bus and enjoy the sights on this one way loop, it's not bad. If you have limited time and lots to see, not worth it. Also, ask for family fare for the bus. We were sold the individual fares which added up to be more than the family deal.
Overall, it was a great stay for our family. I spent a lot of time researching for a hotel prior to our trip and it paid off. We'll be back next year!

First time at the Palace, following a personal recommendation for our Ruby Wedding. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The concierge staff were brilliant. Buffet breakfast was excellent, overall food very good. The location is ideal, for exploring all the highlights of London and links to rail networks.

However our King Room (426) was disappointing , in as much a bit small and did not have a very good view, but without been asked reception rang us within minutes of unpacking and asked us if we were satisfied with our room and if not, could offer us an alternative room with a front facing view, but with the caveat that the alternative room would be even smaller than our current, we declined the offer.

Our biggest disappointment though was that despite been told in advance that our stay was for our Ruby Anniversary, nobody at the hotel recognised this event, so my expectation for that little bit extra didn't happen. Perhaps I was wrong to assume that they might go the extra mile to make our stay memorable.

Room Tip: Choose a front facing view, but expect possibly small rooms. Don't expect extra treatment for sp...

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

It is fantastic to know that you loved the location of our hotel and that you enjoyed our breakfast buffet. I was also very pleased to read that you found my Concierge team extremely helpful and have passed these comments on to them, who were delighted to hear them.

With regards your comment on your bedroom, I am sorry that this particular room was not to your liking and that we were unable to search a suitable alternative accommodation for you. I was also sorry to learn of your disappointment in us for not acknowledging your Ruby Wedding Anniversary. This was noted initially when the reservation was made and notes had been made by my Reservations Agent, however, our Guest Services team unfortunately missed the opportunity to recognise your special occasion. Please accept my sincere apologies.

I am very sorry that your experience was not as positive as that of others on this site and would ask you to please accept my sincere apologies for this.

Yours sincerely,
Malcolm Hendry

Recently had our first stay at this hotel and we have to rate it excellent . The public rooms are super and the restaurant staff and service can not be faulted with the breakfast the best ever . The reception staff could not be more helpful and in fact made our visit to London special with their advice .If we wanted to be super critical perhaps the superior room was a little small but it is an old building and anyway who wants to spend time in their room when in London! The hotel location could not be better and watching the comings and goings in the royal mews was magic . Will definitely return when hopefully Victoria itself will be less of a building site .By the way can recommend the Big Bus for sightseeing .

Room Tip: Face the royal mews and don't worry about traffic - double glazing stops all noise

Stayed at the Rubens again and have booked for this year as well. A great location, staff who remember your name and go over and above and fantastic breakfast, fantastic beds and fantastic location. One of the best traditional hotels in London, would not look anywhere else.

Room Tip: Take the Mews View....dearer but bigger and nice outlook over the Mews

This hotel is perfectly located for London sightseeing - we walked to the Palace, Hyde Park and other landmarks, and could always find our way back by finding the Palace. The staff were attentive and a great source of local info. Rooms small, so go for as large as you can afford!

We had a brilliant stay at this hotel. The manager, Malcolm was fantastic in organising our booking, we had a fabulous greeting on arrival and every time we went in and out of the hotel. Every single member of staff was friendly and helpful and the Concierge had the answer to every single question. Buffet breakfast was fabulous and we had a wonderful meal in the BBar restaurant. The location is perfect, 2 mins walk from Buckingham Palace and 5 mins walk to Victoria station and anywhere we wanted to go. We loved the bright red decor in our room and felt very special at this fabulous hotel. Highly recommend.

On planning my 40th I wanted a special hotel and this is exactly what I got!! From the girls at reception to the doormen everyone is so warm and welcoming. We had a room overlooking the royal mews and I literally had the best nights sleep, very spacious bed which is so soft with lovely plump pillows, the rooms are small but there's every thing you could possibly need in the room! After finding out it was my birthday I was given a birthday card, box of homemade biscuits and 2 free glasses of champagne. Dave had arranged out tickets for Phantom of the opera and we were given great seats, 8 rows back from the stage! On the Sunday which was my actual birthday we had afternoon tea and wow what a tea this is! Everything tasted so lovely and was very filling, we were again treated to free champagne and I was given yet another birthday card which all the staff had signed and a lovely plate of cakes which had 40th written on the plate. The staff are so friendly and when you leave this hotel you feel like you are saying goodbye to friends! I 100% recommend this hotel, it's an ideal location for sightseeing and if your planning on seeing a show please speak to Dave who will arrange tickets for you. Breakfast was great, lots of choice and all cooked brilliantly, we didn't have dinner at the hotel so I don't know what the evening meals are like, we did pop into a little place a few doors down from the hotel, it looked like a cheap and cheerful place.....£46 later for the smallest sandwiches we had seen!!! Don't eat there, go to the place with the blue canopy next door!! I will defiantly be coming back to this hotel again and again! Thank you Rubens for making my birthday a special one!! Xxx
