“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2014

A great location with everything on your doorstep. Check in was quick and painless. The hotel was quiet and clean and good value for money. A few niggles, the heating wasn't great, the shower wasn't overly hot and didn't appreciate having to pay £15 a day for wifi. Having said that I complained about the heating and we got moved to a warmer room with no hesitation, the staff were very friendly.

Just returned from a 24 hour theatre trip to London. Chose this hotel for its location and it can't be beaten. Lovely place, great location and very comfortable . We had the double executive which was very nice, really we were only in it to shower and sleep. However it was most comfortable and had everything you would need, robes, slippers, toiletries and a hospitality tray. Couldn't fault it. We had booked a local place for dinner which was fab however you really are spoiled for choice in this area and if you don't want to go far there's so many places on the doorstep. Ask the hotel about their club which gets you discount at selected places it could be worth it. Only 2 reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars
1, there is, as has been mentioned a rather unpleasant smell.
2, I had wanted a room service breakfast as we were celebrating my husbands birthday but there was a very restricted menu which wasn't worth the £15 pp.
Other than that was all lovely . Would return

Thank you for the time you took posting this review.

Our location, as you mentioned, really can’t be beaten, we are in an area accessible from every corner of Central London, yet outside the bustle of the city.
I am sorry if we fail to meet your expectations regarding the issues mentioned, and be assured that we will address them.

I am pleased to know that you would return, and we are looking forward to welcome you back.

Kind regards,
Miguel Silva

The hotel is in a superb location for shopping and theatre. Lots of restaurants to chose from
Received a fairly warm welcome and as the room wasn't ready so had a drink in the reception which is very cosy, most enjoyable
Room was good, no issues, although only had 2 teabags so had to ask for me which was dealt with quickly and efficiently

Had free wifi as per their online booking offer but it kept dropping out and when reconnecting wanted to charge me so I had to keep calling reception to amend it, this happened 5 times

When booking online I upgraded to a full English. When I went down for breakfast I was offered coffee and toast and was waiting for them to take my breakfast order, as I was waiting I ate my toast and before I realised time had ticked on and my hunger had passed

Hotels did apologise about for their error

Little annoyed that gratuities were added to the bill for a drink, hate this assumption

The price was excellent for a central hotel

This was our first stay at the Rathbone as we live close to London but needed an overnight stay for a family wedding. Our room was small but well equipped and the bed was really comfortable. We'd had a late night so only just made breakfast (served until 10 am). We pre-purchased the breakfast to get a reduction and we'd recommend just having the continental breakfast as this included fresh orange juice, fruit, yoghurt, cheese & charcuterie, as well as toast & pastries.
The Rathbone is just off Charlotte Street, so it's quiet but has great restaurants within a stone's throw. In the morning, we found out that another other family attending the wedding had also booked themselves into the Rathbone & they'd come all the way from Scandinavia. If we need to stay overnight in London, we'll certainly stay here again.

Thank you for the time you took posting this lovely review.

We, in the Rathbone Hotel, are very proud whenever we receive a compliment about our service, friendliness and capacity to personalise our welcome to every guest that we accommodate, because that is our aim, to exceed guest expectations and treat everyone as an individual and not as a number. Our central location, like you mentioned, is one of the best in London, and it is, together with our service our main advantage.

Thank you for noticing our continental breakfast buffet, indeed a good and varied choice of products, all prepared freshly by our chef.
Thank you very much for recommending us, it means a lot for our staff to receive such commendation.

I am happy to hear that you will come back, and we are all looking forward to welcome you again.

Kind Regards,
Miguel Silva

Me & my partner stayed here for New Years Eve, we had a double executive room which was very nice, the photos I had seen before going on the internet didnt do it justice I thought.
The staff were ever so friendly & the hotel had a lovely comfortable, boutique atmostphere.
We had the continental breakfast which was also perfectly adequate.
The location is superb for visiting all the main attractions of London, just off of Oxford Street near Tottenham Court Tube. Pop accross the road & your into Soho & a few minutes walk your in Leicester Square & Picadilly Circus. The hotel itself is surrounded by lots of different restaurants and bars which all looked nice too, very clean area of London I thought.
All in all Im glad I had discovered this clean, warm & friendly hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience after your recent visit to London.

It was great reading your review and we are delighted that you enjoyed our central location, perfect for exploring the wonders of the city. Thank you for mentioning that the photos do not make justice to our rooms, that the staff was very friendly and for noticing the boutique atmosphere.

Thank you again, and we hope we can welcome you again in the near future.

We have stayed at The Rathbone several times over the last few years, because the location is perfect, just north of Oxford Street, Soho and Covent Garden. We usually book and pay in advance to get the best deal, and this time booked a king bed executive double room, which was spacious and comfortable, with a comfortable bed and and a nice sofa.
Minor gripes were the lack of bedside tables (no space near the sides of the bed), no razor point (toothbrush charged on the room desk!) and no heated towel rail (there was a redundant one, but this was disconnected when the mains heating system was replaced with air-con / heating systems to the bedrooms), so towels stayed cold and damp overnight.
The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The area is quite peaceful and nice for a stroll.
Calls for more tea bags etc were quickly dealt with. You are given a “club card” that entitles you to 10% off in selected local area restaurants, a nice touch.
There a nice pubs (try the Newman’s Arms for good beer, good company and great pies), cafes, restaurants nearby, along with newsagents, supermarkets, deli’s etc.
All in all it is ideal for a few days break in London.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room facing Rathbone Street for the most peace.

The service at this small hotel is unexpectedly good for a British hotel. Staff were always helpful and quick to deal with a problem. The location is superb, just off Goodge Street with a supermarket, laundry and newsagent almost next door. And all round the neighbourhood there are some great restaurants. Those are the positives. The negatives are small rooms; the same neighbouring restaurants contribute to high noise levels at night which made their way even through the double glazing and the wifi is expensive. But even so for single travellers with ear plugs this hotel is a real bargain. And the staff are so good it's easy to dismiss the niggles as just that... minor gripes.
