“Good service and room”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

I had some issues with my room being under the kitchen (lots of feet noise and I am a light sleeper), but the manager took care of me and I would recommend this as an option.

Rooms are small and not really a hotel (it is just for accommodation really) but clean and bathrooms are nice too.

Room Tip: Don't choose basement if you are a light sleeper, esp not under the kitchen area.

The Marble Arch is a very nice hotel. It is located near Hyde Park, convenient to the Underground and many bus routes. It is also very close to many sites that first time visitors would want to see and just a few blocks from Oxford Street - a main shopping area.

Just a one night stay when we were down in London to visit the Barbican Centre for the concert of Melody Gardot.
Check in at the hotel was painless and efficient. What a nice idea - the receptionist who checks you in then comes with you all the way to your room to show you in and explain electrics and facilities clearly and well. A nice, modern, comfortable room with all mod cons. Very clean and well laid out. Desk and computer facilities, chargers etc for the business traveller. Good lightening - not dark and dull like a lot.
Nicely printed (professional looking) vouchers offering free glass of wine for room service orders or 20% discount if you dined in the restaurant.
We were off to the theatre to see a very good show by Melody Gardot and were booked in for a meal within the centre at Searcy's Restaurant but on arrival we found we were the only guests and so did not pursue a meal here. We rather wanted somewhere with some atmosphere. Did find a taxi and en-route back to hotel thought we would stop at a busier restaurant - but did not find one. We arrived at the hotel only to find that the restaurant had closed but they were more than helpful and willingly offered to get us some food. We settled for a simple pasta which was served in the bar. It was fresh and wholesome and we were grateful for them making the effort.
Was rather pricey for a meal on your lap but hey - they made a genuine effort to help us so not complaining. Very cosmopolitan mix of guests - not many English at all - not even in the staff but they have to cater for many travellers.
Polite, helpful, clean. would return. Heated towel rail not working in the bathroom but sure they will attend to it as we did not report it until departure - because they had already been in the room after we left for the theatre and replaced our towels with fresh ones - so another brownie point for that.

Room Tip: We were 5th floor - it was nice and quiet. Rooms large and well equipped.

Do not confuse this hotel with its sister (and higher end) property across the street.

Location: The hotel is very conveniently located (less than 5 minute walk) from the Marble Arch Tube station, lots of shops and Hyde Park. However, the shopping is the not so special chain stores that you can find anywhere.

Accomodation: My room was clean and modern but very tiny, even for European standards. It is basically one long room with a single bed, TV, desk and private bath. There is no window to the outside world. The room was comfortable enough and works well if you are just looking for a place to sleep (and not a very large person or claustrophobic). Although I found it disconcerting that I could not look outside at all.

Service: Friendly basic service. They were quick and helpful when I had trouble with my TV. But could not give restaurant recommendations when I asked.

Other: Free wifi; Free fruit in your room when you check in; No fitness center but you can run around Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens

The hotel location is more then
Perfect. The hotel is very luxerious but this doesnt mean functional.the room is small, bed is small for two, bathroom is so dark and small. You cant close the door while washing your face(sink-door)
Curtains are tucked off .
All the design and furniture are expensive but terrible choice.

Great location and high quality hotel. Rooms very small. Great breakfast. Several faults not rectified despite immediate reporting and a 4 night stay. Why do hotels use customers as quality control?
Montcalm have two hotels opposite each other. We stayed at the smaller townhouse. Would consider staying again due to location and proximity to the tube station.

stayed one night on business, then over weekend solo in double room. reasonable rate in a good location, with a small but well appointed room. bed comfortable, good towels, nice coffee maker and teas, brand new bathroom with heated floor, good desk and wifi, friendly staff. room would have been small if I'd been with my husband, but was a perfect size for me. and it was all super clean. I did not try the breakfast, but it looked good (I grabbed tea and banana from Pret a Manger down the street and headed to the park, noted that the Pret a Manger was also open late for snacks ....)
