“excellent for a family weekend”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We booked a family room with two double beds for a London weekend with our 13 year old grand daughter. The room was fabulous. Large by central london standards with two king size beds. good quality en-suite bathroom. The staff were excellent and friendly. Our shopaholic grand daughter thought the room was great and the hotel position just yards from Oxford Street was in her words "absolutely terrific." I am a Priority Club member so we got free newspapers and great welcome bowl of fruit, some soft drinks and sweets and chocolates for children as it was a family room. We booked room only as the Hotel is only 5 minutes walk from Ponti's Italian restaurant in John Prinse's Street. They do the best breakfast in London for both quality and value. If you go I urge you to do the same. Full English breakfast with all the trimmings for only £6.90!

I think that when you stay in this hotel you are really only paying for the location. Small tired rooms and the hotel is currently next to a building site. I've stayed here twice over the last two years when both of the other two nearby Holiday Inns have been full and both times I've found the staff at best disinterested and at worst very rude. Breakfast was poor when compared to other Holiday Inns located near this one. I won't be staying here again.

36-hour spin to London. We looked for that happy mixture of comfort, value and convenience and choose this hotel. It is located in a nice area a block north of Oxford Street - London's main shopping street, e.g. John Lewis's, a popular department store, is about a 5-minute walk.
Reception staff are polite and welcoming with nice smiles.
Room is very acceptable. London hotel rooms are not known for their spaciousness and this one is better than many. Clean.
Would I be happy to stay here again - definitely.

We did not dine in the hotel and cannot comment on that.

I stayed only for one night yet it was a very good choice. The hotel is centrally located, just 3 minutes on foot away from Oxford street with all the high street shops, and less than a 10 minute walk to the Oxford circus tube station.

I am a Priority club member and I got a room on the 5th floor with a free newspaper delivery in the morning. The room was nice, clean, comfortable, with a big TV screen and with a jug kettle and complimentary tea/coffee. There were also several British magazines available in the room to read.

The staff at the reception was friendly and helpful. The concierge even called the theaters for me to find out the availability of the shows and to make the bookings. Advice: do this the night before you want to see the show as it gets difficult on the same day.

The journey by public transport (tube, DLR) to London City Airport took around 1 hour. Taxi should cost between 45 to 50 pounds, but it still takes at least 50 minutes.

I would stay here again.

I have to say having stayed in a couple of Holiday Inns we really are taken with the friendly staff, clean rooms and great locations and this hotel did not disappoint us!

We stayed for a weekend after Christmas and had a fabulous time, we made use of the ice machine on the 3rd floor for drinks in our room (you are supplied with an ice bucket to help yourselves!).

The staff were very genuine and helpful, the food at breakfast was delicious, nice selection of fruit, yogurts and of course the cooked breakfast including hash browns - only allowed on holidays! The bar was relaxed and I understand there was a mini gym although we never got that far.

The location is right behind Debenhams, near to House of Fraser and John Lewis and closer to Bond Street than Oxford Circus but neither are far away - depends how heavy the bags you are carrying are and if you have wheels...we got a cab back to Euston (flagged down on Wigmore st) and it was only £9 so same price as single tickets on the tube, much easier.

We will return in the Summer as we could not fault the facilities, service or staff - thank you!

Fantastic location, just a stone's throw from Oxford Street. Brilliant helpful staff, good food and drink, friendly service and perfectly comfortable rooms. What a way to relax during a wonderful winter stay counting down to Christmas! You are close to every possible attraction on foot or public transport. The week I spent in London was the coldest of the year (very seasonal) and the temperature of the room was ideal. I have stayed at many hotels in the city but this has to be my favourite and I would strongly recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Great Lebanese restaurant/take away 2 min walk away!

this hotel really is the pits - on my second (and hopefully last) stay i checked in and was given a room on the first floor. When i got to the landing i could barely get along the corridor to my room as the builders were in and the hotel thought it was appropriate to empty room(s) and store the furniture in the corridor rendering the fire exit route an obstacle course. It also afforded an unwanted inspection of the state of the furniture and created a dismal impression for anyone checking in. Marvellous!
I went to the front desk to ask why the corridor was effectively blocked (you couldn't get along with any luggage) the duty manager came out and said she didn't know about the situation. Her command of English was poor, but she seemed to understand that fire exits should be kept clear.
To be fair when i returned a few hours later the corridor had been cleared, but this gives you a sense of how the hotel treats guests.

Room Tip: book a different hotel

Dear Avonside,

Many thanks for your comments.

At no time was a corridor completely blocked during this period, what was taking place was furniture being moved to another room for storage to enable us to install a new carpet in a guest room where the original carpet had been damaged.

Unfortuantely we have to completely clear the room in order to do this.

Guest safety is paramount to us and we would never leave a corridor blocked.

Regards,
D Melrose
