“still dismal and a total disregard for guest safety”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

this hotel really is the pits - on my second (and hopefully last) stay i checked in and was given a room on the first floor. When i got to the landing i could barely get along the corridor to my room as the builders were in and the hotel thought it was appropriate to empty room(s) and store the furniture in the corridor rendering the fire exit route an obstacle course. It also afforded an unwanted inspection of the state of the furniture and created a dismal impression for anyone checking in. Marvellous!
I went to the front desk to ask why the corridor was effectively blocked (you couldn't get along with any luggage) the duty manager came out and said she didn't know about the situation. Her command of English was poor, but she seemed to understand that fire exits should be kept clear.
To be fair when i returned a few hours later the corridor had been cleared, but this gives you a sense of how the hotel treats guests.

Dear Avonside,

Many thanks for your comments.

At no time was a corridor completely blocked during this period, what was taking place was furniture being moved to another room for storage to enable us to install a new carpet in a guest room where the original carpet had been damaged.

Unfortuantely we have to completely clear the room in order to do this.

Guest safety is paramount to us and we would never leave a corridor blocked.

Regards,
D Melrose

I must spend 20 nights plus here per annum. The location is great for business, shopping and tourism. Good transport links and many good restaurants nearby if you head for Marleybone High St. Many ling serving staff who always go the extra mile.

We booked this hotel through a travel agent at the last minute, as a reasonable priced accommodation for an unexpected trip in the middle of December in London.
The location of the hotel is central and great, just a few minutes walk from Oxford street and Bond station tube which takes you everywhere, but on a side street tucked away from traffic and noise.
The hotel staff was overall very professional and helpful, except from the cleaning maids that made a lot of fuss in the morning while going about their business. The rooms are sufficiently heated, clean and adequate but beaten down and in need of serious renovation. The breakfast buffet was very good and there was a kettle and instant coffee and tea in our room.
There are renovations and works done on the building behind the hotel, so ask for a room facing the street to avoid any noise.

-We booked using hotel points and i am a gold card holder
-We asked for early check-in and arrived at 11:45 - and got access to the room!!
-As a gold card holder we got a free upgrade to a superior room
-Room was very nice, although very warm with air conditioning not working well
-While lobby is very modern and clean, the rooms seem tired
-Bathroom small but nice. Shower quite weak and not what expected for Superior Room.
-Location is fantastic. 2-Minute walk from Oxford Street but closer to Bond Street that Oxford Circus.
-We told the hotel it was my wife's birthday and they delivered a very nice bottle of Pinot Noir to our room during the day!!
-We asked for a late check-out, only available to request on the morning. No problem until 12:30
-Great hotel for a base if heading shopping for a weekend! Not a great spot if looking for a romantic get-away!!

Stayed through business. Enough said, overpriced really. Box room, damp wall paper, cracked and broken tiles. Decor very dated and dull. Bed comfy though. Great location for Oxford St and all shopping. Staff very nice and efficient. No iron in room, had to bell for one. Building site out of window. Room very hot. The only thing that was Holiday Inn were the pillows. Didn't have breakfast so can't comment. Bar tiny with room for about 20. .........................................................................................

My wife was going to a show with colleagues so we decided to make a weekend of it, do some shopping etc. and this place seemed ideal. Check-in was quick, easy and friendly, i am a Priority Club member so all i had to do was sign. They welcomed me back for another visit although i have no knowledge of being there before (my wife insists we have). The room was on the sixth floor and was just what i expected, clean, functional and small. Liked the bed and the pillows, very important to my better half, and noted they had a pillow menu so you could change if you needed to. Bathroom was a little weird, the toilet was behind the door so it didn't fully open. Had we been any more 'rounded' we wouldn't have got in without a squeeze! Having said that, all was clean and shiney and the shower/tub was great, lots of hot water. I don't know why but it seemed very quiet on our floor, we didn't hear anyone at all, not even a banging door, not that i'm complaining.
I went to the restaurant on the Friday night while waiting for my wife to show up and was surprised to see that the whole place was let for a private party. The waiter finally cleared away the table the staff were having their break at and got me a seat. I then had one of the most forgettable meals ever and lost a few pounds sweating next to the carvery! Not an experience i'll be repeating any time soon. The bar next, about what you would expect, small, expensive but very pleasant staff.
We stayed for two nights and had a good time over the weekend, due mainly to the location of the hotel, five minutes walk away from Oxford Street and Bond Street Tube.
All in all it was a perfectly acceptable place to stay, a good price, clean and (our room at least) just refurbished. The staff were very helpful and we had no complaints. Would i stay there again? Probably, seems i've already been there twice!

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room on the sixth floor.

I stayed here over a Saturday as a quick central (reasonably) priced hotel. Now I know what one should expect from a Holiday Inn but other than being clean and warm - that is all that I got.

I love heat whilst my poor boyfriend can't stand it and it seemed that they had the radiator set to cook from about 6am to midnight. Decent size TV, comfy bed, clean bathroom, dodgy brown carpet, a concierge called Eduardo who seemed to do everything that didn'd involved checking people in and pouring drinks...and all quite sullenly.

Reception was staffed by one person who had no sense of urgency to them...got it done, but in their own time despite having a number of people waiting.

Housekeeping had the door on the latch so every time she went out to get a mop/cup/towel from her cart; the door would bang therefore waking up anyone near to that room.

So..I wouldn't stay here again as I am sure there are other, nicer, similarly priced hotels...but the location IS convenient as it is close to Marylebone, Oxford Street and Baker Street..
