“Yes, rooms were indeed small, but everything else was fine”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

I had a tour group stay here for 4 nights and the only complaint was that the rooms were very small. Not just for singles sharing a twin bedded room but even the doubles were cramped. I also had some people complain about the lighting for night time reading. I would agree as you can see from the photos the lighting was terrible for reading in bed and it was also not even there on the desk.

Now the windows opened which was nice, pant press and board and iron nicely hidden behind a big mirror. Quiet, clean room with closet, safe, empty bar fridge (great!) coffee/tea making and cookies and real milk in little packets. Good quality bath ammenities and a nice bathroom but lighting could be a bit brighter. Comfy bed, lots of tv stations to watch, bathrobes.

Breakast ample and variety as very good. 6 elevators so service was good but it is a very large hotel so you need that. Modern lobby and huge, great help desk and the location of the hotel was really handy.

Booked as a last minute, the Cumberland proved to be better than we had expected. This is a big hotel so don't expect boutique charm. The reception is like an airport check in and we've never actually had to queue to get into breakfast anywhere before. But when we did get in, it was very good, an excellent selection, even natural yoghurt not the usual fat free junk and included in the room price. Our room was efficient pleasant comfortable and quiet. The lobby bar carries on the airport theme, big and impersonal, not recommended for a quiet drink !
Only one gripe, the entrance is a bit of a smokers hang out and needs to be cleaned up more often. In all , excellent value for a stop over.

Room Tip: Our from at the back was very quiet

I've stayed three times in the last few months and feel comfortable recommending the Cumberland. The location, as mentioned in other posts is excellent with the Marble Arch tube station almost at the doorstep and several restaurants/pubs are close by. The staff is accommodating and friendly.

The room size is comparable to most large city hotels. I've had a different layout each time but didn't feel unduly cramped in any of them. With two people, one case would have to be on the floor but there would still be maneuvering room.

The rooms include an iron and board, coffee/tea service, a fridge and the best wired/wireless Internet connection I've had away from home. My Vonage calls back to the USA were very clear.

The first thing you notice is how many people in the lifts are clutching bags from the large Primark across the Road. One can definitely say this hotel is convenient for low cost clothes shopping. Indeed, perched at the end of Oxford St it is pretty well located for shopping generally as well as the other sights of Central London. Recently refurbished with a large reception which resembles a modern sculpture gallery, it has free wifi and Nespresso coffee machines in the bedrooms. So why did I give it the mark I did? Not really its fault, it is a reverb, the bedrooms are still claustrophobically small and lack the finishing touches of a fine hotel. iPad charger/player was a nice touch though. Verdict, ok for one night if you get a good deal, two or three if you are out a lot. Don't go if you want to lounge around in your bedroom with room service. Also fridge but no mini bar (you have to stock it yourself).

Booked months in advance for a special birthday celebration. We feel the hotel service was impersonal, standards mediocre (room was small and our bathroom a bit tatty) and overall we were disappointed with the value for the price we paid.

Perfect location, excellent breakfast, really good service, rooms were very clean and well equipped but very small (almost like a little box), no noise from the street or neighbors but woke up when ever someone opened or closed the doors next door.

I needed an affordable central London hotel in a hurry and could not have found a better place. The location is perfect, you literally walk out of the Marble Arch tube station, turn left and you are on the doorstep.

Despite being in a such a busy area of London, we are in a blissfully quiet room and had a wonderful night's sleep.

We booked a standard room, it was spacious with a wardrobe, area, separate bathroom and plenty of room to walk around the bed (I mention this because I have been in London hotels that are clean but only just fit the bed in and it's very pokey!). The bedsheets were white and crisp. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful.
I would advise getting up early for the breakfast as this is runs from 8am - 11am there was a queue at 10.45am with a lot of people sleeping in and wanting their breakfast later.

I requested late check out which was until 1pm but then stayed until 3pm as they only charge £20 per hour if you stay after 1pm. I thought it was well worth it.

The breakfast was amazing, a really delicious buffet.

I also really liked the foyer, it was impressive and had great water installations and modern light features.

I do not hesitate in recommending this hotel and will be back again.
