Rather unprepossessing lobby - really big with some odd Everyman statues but the rooms are good with all the facilities you need. Excellent restaurant and transport links as well as shopping which you don't get with some of the more traditional business areas. Unusually the single rooms are very spacious with three quarter beds and decent sized bathrooms.

The Cumberland is a fantastic hotel! Located right near Marble Arch on the corner of Oxford St; fantastic for shopping, close to Hop on Hop off Busses, 100's of cabs nearby and walking distance to many attractions. The lobby is very cool and the rooms are very modern and clean. We stayed in an Executive Family Room w. 2 double beds. The room was spacious and bright. There was no view, but this didn't worry us. Internet was complimentary and the breakfast was very good. We had absolutely no problems and the staff were helpful and friendly. Great spot in London!

We were booked for this hotel through our travel agent and a tour group. It is 45 minute drive or so from Heathrow-depending on traffic. The room is adequate. Bathroom minuscule and inconvenient for me-a woman traveling with an electric adaptor for flat iron. A mirror above the desk would have helped with the morning hair styling. There is a blowdryer next to the in-wall ironing station. Our room had a dreadful view overlooking the air conditioners so ask for an odd number room. Maybe that would help. We had booked our tour for the rated rooms they offered, so I was disappointed in what we got. Breakfast was included in our booking and there were many good food choices. Something for any taste. Staff was wonderful!!! We had problems with World Traveler added to my cell phone and with Citibank credit card. Kristina in Guest Services went out of her way to help. 4 Stars for her!!!! Concierge was very helpful too. Hotel is located close to lots of great shopping and restaurants within easy walking distance. Prezzo quickly became a favorite. Good food and terrific service. And even a nearby McD's.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view that doesn't overlook air conditioners!!!

Stayed here for 3 nights Sept 26-29th. Booked via an agent online with a small discount. Fantastic location, can't fault it, with a room overlooking Marble Arch. However, the room was very tired looking, lots of marks on the walls, some tiles missing in the bathroom, handprints on the door, tarnished fittings in the bathroom. The hotel has a 4 star rating, our room was not of this calibre. Disappointed as we paid £150 per night and expected the room to be more up together than this.

A recent 'girlie' weekend in London to celebrate the 50th of a dear friend was sealed with the quality of this hotel. This added to our visit to the RITZ........The staff in all areas of the hotel were very helpful and happy to serve!!!
A very clean and efficient hotel, with staff that couldn't do enough to help....(thank you Angelina on reception). Our rooms although booked together, were on different floors. But thankfully 3 out of the 4 twin rooms were up graded to the executive rooms..WOW.
Although not there for sightseeing, it is in a perfefect location for those visiting London for the sights... the tube station is a just round the corner....EVERYTHING is near.
Fantastic Hotel.... i'll be back.

The Cumberland Hotel is a great Hotel which can be found right at the corner of Marble Arch: the perfect spot for shopping and sightseeing. Just a short cab ride from all the major attractions and theatres, I will definitely consider returning to The Cumberland on my future visit to London.
As you enter you will be greeted by the doorman (nowadays hard to find unless you book an over expensive hotel!) and after a quick check-in you will be escorted to you bedroom. I strongly recommend the junior suites facing Marble Arch, definitely worth the upgrade fee!
Great praise to the staff especially the Concierge and Guest Service team, they made me feel really looked after!
Can't wait to go back there!

We had booked into this hotel as part of a package tour, with extra nights before and after the tour. Apparently this resulted in the Cumberland computers recording it as 3 different bookings; it took 30 minutes to explain to the receptionist that we wanted to stay in the same room for the duration of the stay.

As a member of our party has a mobility impairment we explained that we needed a room with a walk-in shower as they could not climb into a bathtub. We were allocated the disability suite, where two employees confirmed it would have a walk-in shower. When we arrived, we discovered the suite's shower was within the bath and did not include any bars that could be used for one to brace themselves for climbing. Those with full mobility found they had to brace against the solid glass shower screen in order to climb in, and so it was determined that it was too dangerous for our impaired member to climb in & out of the shower on a regular basis. The glass shower screen was loose, indicating it had been used to balance climbing in & out by previous occupants.

When we asked to change rooms the Customer Service Representative explained we may have to move into an Executive Room. We asked to be shown a sample room and so the rep took us to a couple. The first one (although listed in the computer as vacant) had an occupant and the rep explained guests had a tendency to return to their room after checkout (but how is that possible when they use electronic keycards?); the second one had a support column sticking up through the middle of it and a view of the hotel's garbage depot. The room we finally received still had several inches of step between the bathroom floor and the shower, but at least everyone could shower unaided. There was a large liquid stain on the bedspread foot; when we complained to the maid she couldn't speak enough English to understand the problem, let alone provide fresh linen.

When our package tour officially started we queued at Concierge to ask when the official meeting time would be. Another party deliberately jumped the queue ahead of us but Concierge served them as though an all-male party had the right to jump ahead of an all-female party. When a Concierge finally served us we asked where the tour representative was; the answer was "I don't know, you'll have to ask my colleague". We asked his colleague and we got the same answer, then asked his colleague and got the same answer....six times. When we finally got to the correct colleague he explained that the rep had left a few minutes earlier; if the first Concierge actually knew where the rep was, we would have been able to reach the rep before they had left.

The breakfast room is a large army mess hall. The queue to obtain a table is often slowed by people choosing to pay the bill on entry rather than simply charging breakfast to their account. The fried eggs were stone cold by the time we got to them; the food is cooked and then offered to display, but nothing is used to keep them warm.

It is very easy to lose your way in the corridors, as the display of room numbers and directions is not instinctive (nor friendly to vision-impaired). We also found a fire exit that had been blocked with a pile of rubbish; we had to ring Reception to have it removed.

The beds are simply too soft to allow one to get traction for getting out of them. Oh, and the fire alarm test for the hotel happened at midnight.

We asked our tour company to send us to a different hotel. When Concierge learned of this request, they offered a complimentary bottle of wine (we don't drink alcohol).

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel
