There is little of distinction to write about; all aspects were neither particularly bad nor particularly good.

The place itself is very typical of all the others down brick lane - more cheap and cheerful than atmospheric. The food was alright, but some dishes were a little flat - lacking in punch and big flavours. I've rated it as a two here, which is perhaps a touch harsh.

To counter that, I thought the service was decent and I'll give a generous four for it. I am not a fan of big salesmanship, preferring a friendly but efficient approach - which I got here. There was no tout (part of the reason I chose it) and the waiter was quick to seat us, take orders etc. He was also prompt with the bill - and waiting a long time for this is a pet hate of mine.

All in all, it is a very average place. If you want a safe pick to do the "brick lane curry" thing then look no further. If, however, you're a conoseur of Indian cuisine - you may wish to find somewhere a little bit more special.

Don't listen to the hype, offers or the 'latest review'. Chicken tikka - very dry, sag aloo - looked like potato with slime, Dahl was excellent! Price was reasonable, but the food didn't live up to the hype. Beware of touts trying to get you in with discounts etc....

How do you choose the best on Brick Lane? Easy, listen to other people. This place rocks, top food, top service, good price. You just have to try it, you won't be dissappointed.

I hadn't been to Brick Lane for 15 years and decided to visit an Indian restaurant there last week. I picked the Bengal Village because it had good reviews and seemed to have some mild dishes on the menu. First of all, Brick Lane has become a very touristy location and has nothing to do with the original feel of the place I remembered. Second, the food in this restaurant was tasty and cheap, but next day our stomach was upset, so I wouldn't go there again.

You have to go to Brick Lane just for the experience!
We had a meal at Bengal Village as it came recommended. The meal and service was good although the place was busy. The staff were nice and helpful.
Toilets were disappointing, very dated and not that pleasant as were the stairs down to them. However, would go back.
