Britannia Hampstead Hotel

I stayed at this hotel as the prices at my usual hotel in London (premiere Inn, Euston) had put up their room only prices beyond that which my work were prepared to pay for. Got a dinner, bed & breakfast deal for £127.50 which for London i felt was reasonable. Yes, hotel could do with a lick of paint but my room was clean and cosy (albeit having read the reviews here after i booked i did request a room on an upper floor which i got). Evening meal was a bit hit and a miss for a buffet style dinner - Mousaka was gorgeous, chocolate cake possibly one of the best ive tasted but didnt go for the fish as it was stone cold despite being on a hot plate. In all fairness to the staff, the man ahead of me brought their attention to the fish, and it was taken away and replaced with a hot dish. Breakfast was very good with choices of cereal (although they could do with sticking to branded kellogs rice crispies rather than what appeared to be a supermarket saver own brand of the cardboard variety!), fruit, cooked breakfast, yogurts, pastries etc. Staff were friendly (although restaurant staff in the evening were noticable by their absence in trying to get a drink!). I think one of the issues with this hotel is that people book it on a 'bargain' price and expect to get the Hilton - you get what you pay for. I will however be returning to the hotel when in London for work as the pricing suits my work, the location suits for getting to my venues for work (5 mins walk from Chalk Farm tube station) and my experience of it was that it was clean and i wouldnt starve! Plus i got Kidstart (www.kidstart.co.uk) on my booking which was an added bonus!

Room Tip: definately request an upper level room

my wife bought me a superbreak via thomas cook which was for my birthday which i was excited to recieve but this hotel was part of it so i thought we will see what it would be like. well i paid for breakfast for our secon day there and was looking forward to getting a real good breakfast for £8.50 when we went in to the resteurant i was met by a young waiter and saw the buffet bar but it was almost empty and the i realised he was on his own but eventually got my breakfast and wanted a coffee but there were no free tables setup and as looked around i saw there many tables that were not cleared away the my wife went a got a drink of orange from the table and in shock found live ants upon the table but much more worse was the dead one in a jug of grapefruit juice she immediatly went to see the duty manger but was imformed that he was busy so we took the jug to reception for them to deal with very poor result from brittania i feel

The only good thing I can say about this hotel is the location, stayed here for 2 nights and its safe to say I won't be back again. Rooms are small and horrible, the hotel is old and tired. It's a shame the hotel has huge potential being located where it is, don't expect to get into your room before 14:30.

On arrival to this tacky building, we expected basic facilities. In no way were we prepared for what we got. We were shown downstairs from street level to a narrow, prison-like corridor stuck in a 70s time warp. On opening the door to our room we were greeted by a warm, stale, damp blast. There was no window to be seen, and even worse, no ventilation. It was very difficult to breathe. The mattress had a giant hole in it, making it very difficult to sleep. To make things even worse, every time someone opened the door of the corridor, the room door banged and rattled. Result was no sleep at all. Just a complete nightmare! Do NOT accept a basement room under any circumstances! Are such conditions even legal?
After complaining, the staff organised another room without asking any questions, suggesting this is not unusual. You have been warned!
Plus points were a decent breakfast, helpful staff, and an excellent location.

It is an average hotel, the decor is a bit grubby but clean. Very much in need of a lick of paint with old furniture. However, the staff were very helpful and efficient, the room was clean, the beds were comfortable. If you want a good breakfast and you spend most of the day out and about only needing a basic clean room then this hotel is for you. It's near Camden market and Camden town which has an excellent atmosphere and lots of shops and eateries. Take a short walk to Primrose hill and take in the view from the top.

Room Tip: the higher floors are better, with good views

Firstly, this hotel is in need of some love, there are some definite decor issues that need fixing and it looks like it needs some money spent on it. That being said the rooms were clean and the bathroom was spacious. A step up from the previous place we had stayed. The hotel itself has a 'Twilight Zone' feel too it, it's quite spooky. I had to take a picture down off of the wall in our room of a haunted looking girl just so I could get to sleep. The room we stayed in was on the lower floor, very narrow hallways made it feel quite claustrophobic. The room had no windows therefore no natural light, so once you're in there it's hard to know what time of day or night it is. It was very stuffy even with a fan with little air flow. At one point we watched half a season of Game of Thrones in there, stuck in a windowless, airless time warp. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Request a room with a window!
