“Convient Location to Explore London”
Reviewed June 25, 2012

We spent 4 nights at the Kensington Gardens Hotel in May, 2012, and thought the location was a perfect base for our explorations of London. The hotel is very convient to Paddington train station and has excellent tube and bus service a few minutes away. We enjoyed walking in the area as Notting Hill, the Portebello Market, and Kensington Gardens can be reached in a few minutes of walking. We can't say enough about Rowshanak. She is so cheery and helpful and makes you feel right at home. She is an expert on the bus and tube service and can give you great ideas on how to get around London.

The rooms are small, but hey, this is London. Ours was very clean and quiet. There is no elevator so the rooms on floors 3 and 4 can be somewhat challenging, especially if you have a heavy suitcase. The breakfast is served next door at the Best Western and we were very pleased. We are not big breakfast eaters so the selection of breads, meats, cheese, fruit and cereal was very ample. They do have a hot beakfast option but we did not try it.

In talking to friends that stayed in London the same time we did we feel that we got tremedous value at the Kensington Gardens Hotel. Most spent at least 50% more than we did and none of them raved about how nice or large their room was. We were previously in London in 2010 and spent more for less value at another hotel.

We will definitely stay here the next time we travel to London.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the first or second floor.

My wife and I have just got back from a two night stay at the Kensington Gardens and had a great weekend. we were welcomed with open arms by Rowshanak who was very polite, friendly and bubbly and made us feel at home. The hotel is in a lovely area, about 5 minutes walk from Bayswater tube station, just off bustling Queensway and quite safe at night. We were also grateful for the comfortable and quiet night's sleep as the hotel is in a little gardened square away from any passing traffic. We would definitely stay again and thoroughly recommend the hotel.

If a clean room and convenient location in London is what you are after, at a reasonable price then this is the place to go. Travelling with a friend, we both had single rooms which were cleaned, if not small. But then, when you are travelling in London, why would you spend all your time in your room?
This is an ideal place to base yourself whilst you immerse yourself in all that London has to offer. The service was friendly and the rooms were quiet. I am heading back to London later this year and this will be the first place I look at staying.

Room Tip: Ask for a room above street level, it helps keep the noise down. But keep in mind there is no lift...

Maybe I need more experience with lousy London hotels to get as excited about this place as other reviewers, but I found it only adequate. I have traveled the world, and stayed in worse places, but none of them cost this much. The triple room we got was 10x 18, tops, with a bathroom full of decrepitude. The toilet seat was falling off, which made every night an adventure. The radiator leaked hot water. The floors were squeaky, so at least we could take comfort that we were annoying those below us as much as our upstairs neighbors disturbed us.

The staff was nice. Leaving the key was no big deal. The place is just worn, loud, and not at all a place to stay unless you're fine with all the comforts of a 1980s Florentine pensione.

Unclean room up many flights of stairs, not particularly friendly at reception.

When you need to leave the hotel (as the reception isn't open for long during the day) you drop your key off to a Best Western hotel a couple of buildings down. It's the same when you leave, if you want the hotel to hold your bags, you drop it off at this other hotel. No internet access at this hotel, again, you have to go to the Best Western to get internet access. Breakfast? What a surprise, you have to go to the Best Western a couple of buildings down.

So the point is, the Best Western down the road would be a much better place to stay even if it was a bit more expensive.

The location is the only thing going for the place (other than the price), but these benefits do not make up for the other problems with the hotel.

The rooms in this hotel are appalling. Unclean, pokey, uncomfortable. And with the lack of service supplied by this hotel, I would never stay there again.

I was a single women staying in London for a week. The location of this hotel was excellent. I never felt nervous about being alone. The two tube stations are very close, as is a excellent cafe and many restaurants There is a mall right on the corner with a M&S so I could pick up food to eat in my room or for my day trips. The lady at the front desk was wonderful, she could give me bus routes to places I wanted to go as well as make recommendations of things to do. I was able to have breakfast at the hotel next door which was great. I had to catch a cab at 2 in the morning and ended up meeting some great people in the lobby of the next door hotel. Yes the room was small but it was clean which mattered to me more the a large room. The bathroom for my room was out in the hall, which was the first time I had ever had that. But I was the only one using it and it was really convienant when I was running in from a day out and the toilet was closer then my room.

I stay in budget hotels in London frequently. This is the best I have stayed in. Reception was friendly and efficient. The room was well equipped and clean; there was more space than I am used to at this price. The hotel is effectively an annexe to a larger Best Western next door and it is of a similar standard with use of their facilities. Continental breakfast was better than average, but the Full English (additional cost) was huge, well cooked and used quality ingredients.

Difficult to fault.

Well done KGH - I was impressed!

Room Tip: Room 14 is a very good ensuite single room
