ROOM
The room was a let down, it didnt feel special or comfortable. It was really small, I have stayed in the Tune paddington hotel that is a micro hotel and it had the same room size. I'm not exaggerating either!

The heating in the room was broken. As it was January, it was so cold I couldn't sleep. Other guests experienced this too. We were assured maintenance would look at it but it never got fixed during our 3 day stay. Brrrrrr!

The bed was small, the quilt was too small and thin, but the matress was comfy. I again don't see why a budget hotel like Tune can offer quality sized beds and fluffy pillows/quilts but not in this hotel?

The bathroom was so tierd. Very dated and it had the weirdest door that didnt close properly. People like privacy in the bathroom you know! Worst of all there was NO HOT WATER throughout our stay. Such a basic need. We did inform reception and were assured someone would look at it. But during our 3 day stay, we only got cold showers. Towels nice though.

The tea and coffee facilites were very basic. There was not enough tea, no earl grey, no biscuits and no cafitiere for good coffee. Little things like that really matter and make you feel at home and welcome.

I can say it was clean! So the staff do a good job.

SPA
The spa was the worst I've ever been to and doesn't reflect the hotel well. Firstly you have to pay to use it, where as at the grange hotels, its included in your stay. The jacuzzi was out of use, pool steps were broken, steam room was stinky and the changing rooms were messy with dirty towels, tissues, broken lockers and missing shower doors. Such a contrast to the rest of the lovely communal areas. Needs some investment.
Also the soap in the showers smelt like cleaning fluid =( not very indulgent

STAFF
The staff were brilliant. Their service, hospitality and willingness to please were the best part of our stay. They are a genuine credit to the hotel and I hope they are rewarded for their positive attitudes, they deserve it!

LOCATION
Very central and a 2 minute walk from Kensington High Street tube station. Good area. Nice and quiet when it was time to sleep.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES
I felt like I was on an easy jet or Ryan Air flight with all the additional charges. If this was a budget hotel I wouldn't mind paying, but its not, so I didn't feel like it was right, especially as competitor hotels don't make you pay for these:
- £2 per bag for left luggage
- £9.99 wifi per device per day
- £8 Spa (jacuzzi/pool/steam room) per person per session
You can see how it could amount to more.

COMMUNAL AREAS (not the spa though!)
The communal areas of the hotel were stylish, clean and spacious.

OVERALL
PROS - Friendly staff, good location, smart communal areas, clean
CONS - small rooms, some parts in need of refurbishment (spa & bathroom), lots of additional charges, no luxury

WOULD I STAY AGAIN?
It just needs a bit of love and investment and it could be an amazing hotel. I probably wouldn't stay again as I get better value at the grange hotels or even budget Tune hotels. All i need is a comfy bed, clean room and a hot shower. No fault of the staff as they were great!

Considering there is a huge refurb STILL going on this hotel fails in so many areas. My room was freezing cold but the heating wasn't working, the promised fan heater never materialised I wrapped myself in the bath towels to get warm in bed, which to be fair was comfy. Breakfast was mediocre buffet crap barely warm and the coffee was undrinkable - I will steer clear of this place in future even premier lodge are better than this

My partner had booked 'Kensington close' for the 1 night on the 15th of feb 2013 for our first anniversary. Upon arriving we did have a little trouble with finding somewhere near by to park the car which was about a 5/10min walk from the hotel just down youngs street which to park in for not even 24 hrs cost us £35! Not very impressed! Anyway as we approached the hotel we were greeted by the very friendly well presented gentleman who helped us up the stairs with our luggage, which really added to our experience having it being our first time of staying in an hotel! The receptionist julieanna ( i think her name was) was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful except for when it came to the directions to our room.... Room 529 5th floor was all we got told so having to walk along the corridor trying to find our room number is a little bit of a nusance (maybe a porter would be a nice idea or even being offered a hand with luggage to the room would be a nice touch) anyway we found our room about a quarter of the way down the corridor, leading down another! When we entered our executive room we had never seen anything like it! It was such a lovely well presented/layed out room with a very luxurious en suite bathroom, the bed was massive and compfortable and there was plenty of storage with just the basics in the room... A hair dryer, waste bin and tea tray which was nice :) we thought it was such a lovely thoughtful touch when we turned on the tv to find ' welcome Gemma and arron' written on the screen also having the menu, info spa ect on the tv is a very good advanced idea too :) so we settled in the room very quickly and decided we would head to the gym and the pool for a few hours before dinner which was fantastic apart from the £8 charge per person per day! (would of thought that would of been included in the price of the room) the restuarant area was gorgeous with very delicious high quality food however the menu was different to the one on the tv in our room, the waiters who served us didn't come across as they entirely knew what they were doing.... We were asked to pick a table, had to ask 2 different waiters for drinks before finally getting any and they just seemed quite clueless but were polite as can be! When it came to paying our bill it was a bit of a shock to find a 15% service charge added on and a seperate bill for my drink which was an archers and lemonade priced at £9 with a service charge of 15% on top of that! The gentleman in the bar however did remove this charge but seriously £9 for an archers and lemonade?? Do be serious! Abit pricey I think really!! After that the rest of our stay was lovely we had planned to have our breakfast delivered to our room ( which we did) and we was extremely looking forward to being able to have breakfast in bed but to our disappointment our full English breakfast (which was a small portion but did look delicious was cold!!) which did put a downer on our day as we were going to explore the sights in London before leaving but we decided we would just depart early and go home! Overall it is a lovely hotel but could offer a lot lot more a few more staff that can understand English would be nice too..

We ordered a standard double room here. That is all.. The rooms were so tiny that you had barely enough space to walk. Everything else came at an added cost including the wifi? Gym was additional too.. You order a movie and you cant pause it and watch it the next night paused movies stay only until 12 am. (You need to purchase it again).. The only good thing about the hotel is its friendly staff at the Bar downstairs and the location of course.. The male receptionists were generally polite but the females were fairly rude..

I was really disappointed with this hotel. I had read about it's refurbishment and was looking forward to seeing it. When we first entered, we loved it. The public areas are lovely - very plush. It's clear that this is where the refurbishment ends. There were 6 of us in total, so we saw 3 rooms (all standard). All of these rooms were very shabby and TINY! I have stayed in a lot of London hotels and I don't expect a massive space but the desk was against the bed so I had to climb over it to get to the otherside, rather than walk round the bed. The bathroom, again the smallest I have ever seen. Lots of plumbing issues. Our toilet didn't flush, when we ran the taps in the sink you could hear the bath hole bubbling. Then taking a shower the water didn't empty quick enough, so we had to stand in a couple of inches of water. The bathroom door was sticking when it was shut, making it difficult to open. The curtains were pretty much falling off the rails. The rooms don't have irons/ironing boards. Had a terrible night's sleep due to the noise - continual thumping of music until after 1.30am.
On the plus side the staff were very friendly and helpful, location is good and the breakfast was great. These positives alone would not make me want to return though!

Room Tip: I didn't see any of the upgraded rooms so can't comment

Booked in for a 2 night city break, location is excellent and before we start I'd like to say that the front of house staff (reception, bar, porters) are all lovely. Nice decor too and well maintained not tired...we had a superior double which had masses of room by London standards, super king beds and a swish bathroom all very good and housekeeping was efficient. My issue comes from the catering arrangement and waiting staff at breakfast...it was almost like breakfast took them buy surprise every day, frantic table settings with people moving around as they see fit, 2 incredibly slow toast machines which need two passes to get a decent toast ( this meant either a hot breakfast and cold toast, or hot toast and a cold breakfast) also with 300+ guests to service and some family bookings of 8 people you could easily wait 10 minutes for your turn. Unacceptable, I had to wait twice for juice glasses as they ran out, and upon arrival at your seat you are asked if you want tea or coffee.. Tea seems to come with no milk unless you ask, no milk jugs (unless your one of the lucky 20 we saw floating around) but she will make a separate trip over with a pale to pour some in for you, lord knows what happens if you want another cup!! Coffee was the same, one trip over to fill it, then when I asked for milk, she went back to her station took the jug and made a special trip over. All very time intensive and somewhat pointless for the sake of ordering more jugs. The breakfast choices were good and plentyfull but one poor chap sitting on a 2 ring electric hob with two pans cooking 3 eggs a go was hardly sufficient for 300 people. Buy the time he had cooked 3 someone came over and took 2 leaving 1 for 7 people waiting in line...mad. I wanted to scream or just take over and get some order into the place. Then to top it off for 2 days running the sausages which looked like good quality were brown on the outside and raw in the middle, now I'm no prude but this is cooking 101, so many people were leaving them that my partner flagged it to the waiter who kind of grinned inanely before simply removing our plate.... It was a shame really as us brits love our breakfasts when we go away and for me it was the thing that let the place down...

Room Tip: It's worth the extra to upgrade room,

We booked a twin standard room £206 for two nights on arrival were offered an upgrade of £20 per night - more money and no free wifi
We then had to ask about breakfast as we were told it wasn't included which we had paid for and was on our confirmation
Our room was very small only just enough room to get round beds without falling onto them, beds very short no good if you are tall
Bathrooms also small only just enough room
Breakfast was very busy cutlery and crockery missing from table. The orange juice was terrible and so was the coffee which was cold.
The lifts are being refurbished only a few small ones available. Lots of cabin crew staying with large suitcases etc so waiting for a lift can take a long time.
We stayed here a year ago and I am afraid things have not improved.
There is a cafe Nero close by so save your money and get breakfast there. We went for a coffee after breakfast as it was so bad in the hotel
