Corus Hotel Hyde Park London
Ranked #493 of 1,078 Hotels in London
Reviewed April 9, 2013

The location is perfect, just opposite the gates leading into Hyde Park. It is modern and spotlessly clean, the breakfasts are simply first class. However, the room was very small and claustrophobic, luckily I didn't pack the 'proverbial cat'.

All in all, a pleasurable experience if not a little pricey.

Room Tip: Ask for a bigger bedroom!

When i arrived i have seen the room a bit small but i said to myself it’s ok, but when i entered to the bathroom i was shocked, you can not take a comfort shower at all, the wall make the shower bath very small and you have to mind your head (this clause they put it on the bathroom) "mind your head please" which mean this shower is not convenient even with a short guy like me so, imagine if you are a tall guy :(

And then i went down immediately asking them to give me another room and they gave me another one and then “the second shock”, the room was like a grave, sorry to say that but this is the truth, the room was really small.

so, it seems they have two types of double or single room (and this is what the receptionist told me) room very very small with a good bathroom and one a bit bigger with terrible bathroom

I will highlight the good (+) things and bad (-) things in the hotel and you decide:

+ location.
+ service: wifi , iron in the room
+ break fast

- value for money: to expensive compare to what you paid.
- room and room size

Conclusion, try to find something else!
Regards

Love the location. Of this hotel, 10 min walk from the end of Oxford street, (Primark end)
Tiny rooms but very cute, has an up market feel to and breakfast is great, stated a few times now and never felt disappointed. You have to be so careful in London to get somewhere nice and great value, this is both.
Definitely recommend a stay here.

Yes, I agree with previous posts that there are small flaws with the guest rooms (rather small, poor drywall attempts in bathroom, etc.) but having Lancaster Gate Underground stop one block away is well worth it. It's about a $20 cab ride from Corus to Westminster Abbey. The staff was fine. Breakfast was average. BTW, don't get mad that the hair dryer is missing, it's hidden under the desk.

There's a great bar north of the property called The Mitre and the White Swan is around the corner to the east.

A recent change of job means I am now a pretty frequent visitor to London, and I have been trying out a number of hotels to find a regular base. Having tried about 15 in the last few months this is far and away the best. I was originally allocated room 620, which was perfectly adequate for one person. The one complaint I have is that the bed was adjacent to the window through which there was a very uncomfortable draught. If this could be cured it would be great. For my second night there the very helpful Beata on reception upgraded me to a larger room (for a very modest supplement that I was pleased to pay) and this was excellent in all respects. Breakfast is good, though a wider choice of cereals would be an improvement. I ate in the restaurant one evening and the braised ox-cheek was superb. I have already booked a further stay for the coming week, and given its convenience to both Paddington and the Central Line I can see myself using the Corus quite a bit in the future.

Room Tip: Avoid room 620 if you're susceptible to draughts.

We arranged a special weekend trip to London to watch Phantom of The Opera. We wanted a decent location in decent standard hotel at a price which didn't need a bank loan. We chose the Corus Hyde Park and were not disappointed. An excellent location only a couple of minutes walk from Lancaster Gate underground and opposite Hyde Park. Oxford Street also within walking distance of the hotel. We received a warm and friendly welcome at reception. The room was clean and well equipped, a bit on the small side, but overall excellent if you are there for a night or two. Due to having many previous plans we didn't have the opportunity to try either of the two restaurants which looked excellent. We definitely plan to return here for our next visit and plan to make more use of the services on offer including the highly recommended afternoon tea. The building is old and has history but the interior is modern and bright whilst retaining its character. Only slight disppointment is that we didn't explore this hotel's services to the full. Will certainly return.

My family and I stayed at the Corus for 10 days. Great location - just accross the street from Hyde Park and a 2 minute walk to the tube. There is a great pub (the White Swan?) at the end of the block. The hotel staff was very pleasant and eager to help with all requests, including switching rooms. When a tour that we had booked failed to arrive on time to pick us up, the front desk arranged to get us to our assembly point with ease. Our room was small, typical for London, but well kept. The bed was very comfortable (I prefer a firm mattress).
I will definately stay at this hotel for all subsequent trips to London.
