London Marriott Hotel County Hall

Reviewed June 26, 2012

My family and I spent a week last September at the Marriott County Hall.  Our objective in deciding where to stay while in London was staying where we could spend more time enjoying London and less time trying to get around.  Having our young son with us, my husband and I wanted to be able to easily access many types of transportation and be able to have things to do in close proximity to our room.  The County Hall was the perfect location.
Tour buses and city buses have stops outside the main hotel entrance on the Westminster Bridge Road, but we soon realized that unless we needed a taxi or were planning to take the tour bus, we were better off leaving through either the County Hall building, onto Belvedere Road or onto the riverside walk.  Familiarize yourself with how to navigate the building by leaving the hotel through the library/sitting room.  You will save yourself a lot of time and energy.  Waterloo is not too far, but do exit out the Belvedere Road side.
Our room was a nice size.  We had 2 beds, a small table, a desk and 2chairs and still had more than enough room to move around.  Our room was on the river side.  We enjoyed opening the window in order to hear Big Ben.  With the window closed we could hear just a little, but not enough to disturb our sleep.  Could not see the London Eye, but we were able to see Parliament and the clock tower.
The hotel restaurant was pretty standard.  The wait staff was very friendly and attentive.  For those with small children,  restrooms were a long walk.
Overall we had a great stay.  Everyone was welcoming.  My son especially enjoyed the chocolates each evening.
We usually left our room in the morning and would not return until dinner, which we occasionally picked up at the Subway on the belvedere road side or the McDonald's on the riverside.  One day, we returned around 4 and our room had not been serviced.  That was disappointing but not a big deal.
We found it strange there was  no clock in our room.  My son thought it was because we could look out our window and see the clock tower with Big Ben.

Upgraded to a Big Ben room - you can hear Big Ben clock, and it chimes all night although not loudly. Great views of Houses of Parliament, London Eye, River Thames, North and South Bank. It is possible to walk down to the City of London on the Embankment. You are very close to the Eye and aquarium. The breakfast was lovely. We went to the bar in the evening with good service in quiet but comfortable surroundings. The restaurant is an upmarket steakhouse, with delicious steak as well as seafood. Good views of the Thames. Although in a bustling area, quiet to stay in. Pool and spa pleasant. Short walk to South Bank and arts centres. Great location.

Room Tip: Ask for ones facing the river Thames not the back of the hotel.

This review is long overdue and I apologize to the concierge for not writing it sooner. I stayed at the Marriott London County Hall last July. The location is excellent and the view stunning. What really made the difference though was the concierge. I do not remember the gentleman's name, but he might remember me and my friend. He spent at least an hour helping us find a restaurant that suited the needs of our two families. We ended up at a Middle Eastern place around the corner. I'm not sure if it was the same person or not, but two days later I left my passport in the room vault and did not discover it until on a train to Scotland. It was around 1:30 pm and he knew that the only way to get the passport to me in time to fly home to the US was to make the 3 pm mail run. He was able to get security to open the room safe and put my passport and those of my family in the mail in time. He contacted me numerous times via phone to let me know the status of my passport. I am extremely grateful to the Marriott and their concierge's. Thank you for your assistance.

In addition there is a little tea room with wonderful patisserie right around the corner. We had breakfast there every morning. The prices were reasonable and food excellent.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money and get a room with a view of the Thames.

The London Marriott County Hall is next to the London Eye and right on the Thames. Across the bridge are Big Ben and Parliament, so the views are some of the best in London. It's convenient to both the Westminster and Waterloo Tube stations. Because the building used to be the county offices, the corridors are long and rooms are fairly well spaced. We had quite a trek from the lifts to our room, but it meant that our hallway was quiet and we had uninterrupted sleep. Beds were extremely comfortable, bath was spacious and posh, and because we were Marriott Rewards members, we got to enjoy a complimentary breakfast each morning and complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres each afternoon. The staff was extremely accommodating and professional. A lovely place to stay in London.

We like to stay at Marriott's because they are fairly consistent with thier high standards and we have only been disappointed once in all of our travels. The Marriott Count Seat did not dissappoint us. Our room was immaculate and very comfortable. Marriott always has the most comfortable beds. Their location is the best part. The hotel is within 5 minutes of Waterloo and Westminster train/tube stations, right next door to the London Eye and the Thames River/cruises, across the street from Big Ben,etc. We also found the staff to be very helpful and courteous. We highly recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Stayed in County Hall for one night in May 2012. The location on the South Bank is excellent within walking distance of Waterloo. The hotel is beautiful with spacious rooms which look out onto Thames, London Eye and Westminster. The gym is really well equipped with lots of space and up to date machines. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There is free internet in the room however this is not wireless which is the only let down. This hotel is more expensive than other Marriott's but well worth the cost for special treat!

Room Tip: As for River View room

On arrival the amazing union jack flag display (marking the queens jubilee) which attracted tourist and guests came to the entrance to take photos of it was evident that the staff had excellent customer service skills, which is somewhat lacking at times even in the finest of hotels. The Staff were very welcoming and offered to take our luggage which was bought straight to our room. Nothing was too much trouble; when we rang room service or reception, the staff had been well versed in knowing our names. The hotel manager presented us with a complimentary large fruit bowl and champagne to celebrate our event. The hotel was peaceful, clean and dining areas had been tastefully up-graded to a more modern arty style. The Westminster Suite which we stayed in had a large Kitchen, walk in cloak room, and large lounge with an office area which included stationary, 2 separate seating areas with sofas and coffee tables, a large dining table which could easily seat about 10 people. The large TV area was well equipped with DVD player and IPod docking station. The room had two entrances and a large cloak room. The bathroom had a walk in power shower and large bath which could easily seat 2 people slipper towels and bathroom robes were available. The kitchen was compact with two ice making machines a sink and dishwasher, glasses plates and cutlery, tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. The bedroom was spacious with two arm chairs and foot stool and TV. The large king size bed was like lying down on a cloud as the pillows and quilt were duckdown. The suite was tastefully decorated with lots of fine art details of paining and sculptures. Marriott bottles of spring and mineral were carefully place around the suite. 10 out of 10 for the staff’s helpfulness, the décor and the facilities which consisted of spar and swimming pool. The executive lounge was available which had light hot and cold refreshments available. To describe our whole experience it was like bathing in pour luxury within a peaceful oasis in the hustle and bustle of London. Thank you to the staff for a brilliant stay our family members were more than impressed and are still talking about it. We would definitely stay at this hotel again. Steven and Marcia

Room Tip: Westminster the is the best in London, and the higher floor have little or no noise.
