“Amazing hotel in Canary Wharf”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2010

Rooms: very big. We had standard room but i was such a big room that it could be easily a deluxe or executive room in other hotel. Bed very comfortable.

Service. Excellent, really amazing and helpful staff. Especially people at restaurant

Food: breakfast was included in the package. and it was such a great choice. The Breakfast is served directly to your table not buffet, this means that averything is freshly cooked and prepared for you.

Location: Canary Wharf is no exactly the city center, but the DLR station is at 5 minutes walking and the Canary wharf center, with a lot of shops is not so far (maximun 10 minutes walking).

Try the doclands when in London. You will be amazed. Close enough to London and at the same time so different. The 4 seasons is well located, close to the river ferry pier and subway station. Standard 4 seasons. Nothing more and nothing less. You get what you expect

We decided to take our little boy to London for a birthday treat and we are so glad we picked this hotel. They made a seven year old little boy feel so important and special. A birthday cake was in the room on our arrival and the little gifts were excellent. The hotel staff were the best I have encountered in a long time. The room had a fantastic view of the Thames and the space in the room was wonderful. The bed and bathroom were fantastic and the food we had from room service was great value for money. We had breakfast and again wonderful. I cannot say a bad thing about this hotel the staff and the location. The clipper boat into London made the journey an adventure. Go and enjoy, we will go back.

First of all, I want to talk about value and location. Some TA reviewers have said this hotel is far from the centre of the city and that’s a serious drawback. Well, if you are a tourist from abroad and you want to walk to Trafalgar Square or stroll in Hyde Park I guess that may be true. For us, who used to live in London and now do ‘touristy’ brief visits, this hotel was perfect.

We paid £275 for a Saturday night and this included a deluxe room, full English breakfast, 24 hours car parking and use of what must be one of the best and most exclusive health clubs in the capital. This health club, run by Virgin Active, is worth the walk and the kerfuffle of codes and security gates to get to for the viewsome 20-metre pool is magnificent and there are other dipping pools, saunas and steam rooms etc.

Our overnight rate also included a one-day roamer ticket for two people on the Thames Clipper service, the river taxis that run between Greenwich, the London Eye and Millbank. Since we were about to fly out to Tahiti, we wanted to see the Gauguin exhibition at Tate Modern and the Hodges paintings at the National Maritime Museum, and these high-speed catamarans were the most practical and spectacular way of getting around London. It almost felt like we were in Venice, whisking up and down the Grand Canal! For us, anyway, the £275 at the Four Seasons Canary Wharf represented amazing value for London.

The hotel has that legendary Four Seasons advantage - absolutely brilliant staff. Service levels were flawless, from check-in, to the restaurants to the valet parking. They even telephoned us two days before arrival to tip us off about a couple of nearby road closures and they gave us bottled water for the journey home. Our room, 522, had a smashing view, though I think you have to be familiar with London’s architecture and layout to recognise Tower Bridge, City Hall, Westminster Abbey and the Palace of Westminster at this distance. The room had everything you want, in a stripped-down, minimalist modern style which we much prefer nowadays.

We dined at the in-house restaurant, Quadrato, a convivial space with an open plan kitchen where the Italian food, while not up to the level of London’s best Italian restaurants, such as Zafferano, was more than acceptable and fairly priced. Breakfast the next morning offered a decent buffet but they messed up frying eggs and bacon, a common complaint in Britain where you seldom get streaky bacon and have to endure that awful back bacon which does not fry or grill properly. You’d have thought Four Seasons would know that by now!

So, apart from the flabby bacon, a brilliant hotel in a spectacular location that’s just a ten-minute vaporetto ride away from the Piazza del Trafalgar!

I stayed at the Four Seasons Canary Wharf during a business trip to London. The location is quite convenient if you do business at Canary Wharf but is a bit offsite for a visit of the city centre. The staff was professional and helpful and the rooms and services provided were on a very high level. The food at the restaurant was absolutely superior which made my stay a very nice culinary experience. I can recommend this hotel without any reservations to any business traveller.

My wife and I were somewhat apprehensive about staying at this property based on it's location and reviews here which are somewhat uneven. What a pleasant outcome, then, we found our 9 night stay. We are very pleased with the trade-off the hotel makes: while the leisure guest is not in central London, the hotel well-compensates for its distance from the West End by providing spectacular views over the Thames - especially at sunset - (just as pictured on the FS website), a magnificent infinity-edge pool in the adjacent health club, well-staffed with personable employees who provide the always stellar Four Seasons service, a spotless, well-maintained property, and wonderful dining, all for a fraction of the price of a small, shaftway-view, unrenovated room in one of the classic West End hotels.

We also happen to prefer the quiet and tranquility which characterize Canary Wharf (and the hotel) especially on weekends rather than the hubbub of central London. We used the Thames Clippers service (which runs at 20 minute intervals from a pier at the base of the hotel) and found ourselves at the Embankment in only 20 minutes. It is a lovely ride, by the way. It recalled, for us, the launch offered by the Cipriani hotel in Venice.

Some have criticized the design scheme as "Ikea"-like; we disagree. The extensive wood veneer paneling in both the public and private rooms is certainly severe but does not bear evidence of cost-cutting. Rather, the doors are bank-vault heavy and the exactitude of the installation calls to mind that of the granite walls of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Now, because our taste admittedly runs more to the art deco and its characteristic marquetry ornament, the unrelievedly unadorned panels at this property struck us as a bit faceless but, with their gleaming lacquer and matched grains, they are certainly not inexpensive. The consistent and pleasing design of the guest room's hardware fixtures (rounded chrome reminiscent of the fittings on a shipboard cabin) provided a proper balance for the otherwise omnipresent rectilinear angles.

We look forward to returning to the Four Seasons Canary Wharf whenever we visit London, particularly if we are able to fly into city airport rather than Heathrow since the hotel is so convenient to the former.

Four Seasons are normally awesome hotels and resorts - everywhere I have stayed with them has been great.

However, this hotel has disappointed me. My reservations always say 'No-Smoking' yet I was given a room that smelt like a stale ashtray - although I did ask to be moved, the hotel was full so I could not.

The hotel staff were obviously overworked and the service level was very below par. One evening there were 30 of us in the bar and there were only two bar staff struggling to keep up with the orders (20 minutes to get a cup of coffee).

considering that this hotel is near the worldwide headquarters of Four Seasons, I would assume that no-one from head-office stays here frequently!

I did explain all of this to reception when I left - they were most apologetic, but I was still glad to go!
