“Doesn't have the 'wow' factor of a Four Seasons but still a good 5 star”
Reviewed March 23, 2012

I night stay end of December 2011. On the rare occassions I've splurged on a Four Seasons there's usually been a wow factor to justify the expense. Not here though, it's a perfectly solid 5-star, the staff are all Four Seasons calibre but the building and location, not really. That said it has its own virtues; like the proximity to the Thames Clipper ferry service that will get you out of London's dysfunctional transport system. On arrival the Circle Line was down and the Docklands Light Railway was shut for a month, that's par for the course in London so cruising up and down the river on the spacious boats was a fun, stress-free way to get about. As was the 15 minutes taxi ride to London City Airport.
Had dinner in the Italian restaurant, the food was great but two hours for a starter and main was too slow. Water pressure in the bathroom was great but it needed to be as the plug in the bath leaked and it ended up as a race between the two with the 'in' just winning. Great breakfast, and great service at the breakfast too.
So all in all a nice stay where what we'd thought would be a problem, the out of the way location, ended up - with the Thames Clipper service - being a virtue. You can get in to town and enjoy the hustle and bustle but also quickly escape from it too.

Room Tip: Obviously rooms facing the Thames are better but you can, just, make out the roof of the Olympic sta...

We had a positive experience at the Four Seasons Canary Wharf. This is definitely a five star hotel with professional service and good attention to detail. I was impressed when I made my reservation at 11pm at night that the lady I spoke to was knowledgeable, helpful and professional. That exceeded my expectations. In advance I emailed the concierge a couple of times who were helpful - but not always quite detailed in answering my exact question.

The hotel manages its social media interactions very well - I like this - it adds personality to a hotel being able to see little images and hearing updates on facebook and twitter.

On arrival, we were well greeted. The reception staff are very very good here - the most consistently excellent of all the staff we encountered. Very professional, warm, friendly, detailed, accurate and thorough. Exactly what I'd expect from Four Seasons. Our room was ready a good few hours early, we were upgraded to a lovely river room - both points much appreciated. Reception staff consistently made life easy, were engaging to chat with and offered real warmth.

The physical infrastructure of the hotel is pleasant. The whole place feels very spacious and light. The rooms in particular are an excellent size. The bathrooms are lovely - they have a slight 'spa' feel to them with good showers, big bath etc.

Overall, the decor lacks something - perhaps not quite detailed enough, warm enough. It's just a little to paired back for a Four Seasons overall. Very pleasant, smart, very clean, well maintained, well constructed - but not quite enough. The best example of the interior decor is the restaurant which looks smart and just a bit richer.

In terms of physical environment however, the pool and spa at the Virgin Active health club - which guests have free use of - is really excellent and exceeded my expectations. This is a great facility with an excellent pool over looking the teams. The spa pools are lovely also. A real bonus in London to have this type of facility.

We had a lovely couple of amenities in the room - on arrival little lemon meringue pies that tasted amazing! (though not lactofree which one of us requires). On return we had two little berry pots to mark a birthday celebration (though there were three of us in the room). Both were nicely presented, though no plates or cutlery with the meringue pies which was odd. Could have requested some of course - but we were on a tight time frame. So nice amenities but there was another level of carefulness that could have been added to that.

The pier at the front of the hotel for the Thames Clipper boat service is perfect - a lovely way into Central London in just 20 minutes. The whole Canary Wharf area is very impressive and interesting. It was relaxed and nicely buzzy on Saturday - not busy but enjoyable to wander around.

Breakfast and service in the restaurant was excellent. The quality and choice of the food is absolutely first rate and we enjoyed it not being buffet - a far more relaxed experience. Service was spot on, the table spacious. On arrival I noticed a nice selection of papers and magazines - the slightest response from me was well noted and we were encouraged to take something to read over breakfast - a very nice touch.

My only disappointment here was a pre-arranged request for Lactofree milk had been overlooked. Not a big deal in the big scheme of things, but it would have been a lovely touch for my friend staying with us. A sincere apology was offered for this.

Some nice, hand written cards were a nice touch throughout the stay - including from the lady who manages the social media - a nice touch as we'd communicated in advance of the stay.

An excellent check out experience - again the reception staff excel. Everything was accurate, we enjoyed a nice brief chat and within minutes a personalised email was sent to my email address with the invoice.

One member of the door staff stood out, the chap who brought up our bags. The bottles of water at the door are a really helpful little extra - a good touch.

Overall a very good hotel. I didn't have a 'wow' moment at this property and a couple of times I was a little underwhelmed - including small things like staff not greeting guests in the hall way. As you can tell from this review, my expectations were high and I would say they were met but not exceeded. Fundamentally, these guys know their stuff. Requests were dealt with accurately and many examples of very good staff. This was my first stay at a Four Seasons and I'd certainly enjoy another. I'd probably stay at this property again as well.

Final comment, on the trip, I popped into Four Seasons Park Lane. Had a lovely experience in the restaurant there - thoughtful service and engaging, professional staff. I had a look at the rooms - standard rooms are beautifully furnished - really outstanding - but really quite small. Based on the staff and the quality of rooms I'd love to give it a try. But rates are a good bit higher than Canary Wharf and the room size is a limiting factor.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a river view - definitely worthwhile

Its a great hotel which represents the 4 seasons brand. Although tailored at the business travel it still offers a lot for the casual weekend getaway, Lovely level of service and the tasting menu is great.

Stayed at this hotel as a treat for my Mum's birthday. Was very pleased. Took advantage of the health spa facilities included in our price at the Virgin club next door. Close to the ferryboat and some great restaurants. Very impressed with clean tube station near by. Unexpectedly quiet location. Free newspaper but missed not having a kettle in the room. Lovely shower products and great en-suite. Great quality towels and dressing gowns. Professional staff. Lovely treat!!

Great hotel for meetings in Canary Wharf. The place is back of beyond and tough to get to, so if you have meetings there, Four Seasons is a great place to stay. It has all the trappings of the usual Four Seasons standard. Highly personalized culture, warm and friendly and comfortable environment
