“Back to basics”

I must say, we didn't really get a warm welcome as we checked in. It may have a very grand reception, but as we entered the seventh floor the floor were our room was, it was very dated! The room although very clean and spotless, again very dated. There were marks on the wall and one of our lights weren't working in the room. The kettle in the room took a year and flood to boil so if you want a brew in the morning get up early to make it. Breakfast...well at £10 each I was expecting a lot and good quality...you can pay £10 for a breakfast at the Marriott hotel and it's 100% better than the Britannia's breakfast for the same price.

So why am I giving this 3/5...well like I said its spotlessly clean, beds are comfy and it was very quiet too. Plus, we did get a really good price when booking, but I'll be honest, I did expect a bit of a WOW factor to the hotel, however, it was just a bit like a Travelodge/Premier-Inn.

Room Tip: Rooms towards the front of the hotel seem very quiet.

Me and my friend came to London for a visit, we visit quite a lot throughout the year and have stayed in many hotels.
My friend got a deal off the Internet, I'm unsure what we paid now, but I do know it was an excellent deal.
We were a bit apprehensive about the hotel, as it was out in canary wharf, however, we were really surprised and couldn't believe our luck!! The room was clean and tidy, plenty of room for two people, however it was extremely hot and the window only opened 1 inch, the air con was extremely loud and had very little effect. To be honest we didn't use the room much only to sleep and get ready for goin out, and as we were going to wireless festival and Olympic park, we had the perfect location as it was only a few stops away on the tube, ( the tube is about 10 mins walk).
With the deal we had a free meal which was great, and breakfast on both mornings which also was a great buffet style breakfast with plenty to choose from.
We also had use of the spa which we did use but not for long, it is very outdated, and damp. It did the trick I suppose, we chilled for an hour or so in the jacuzzi.
Overall,,, we were extremely pleased with the room, and would definitely go back. If a deal should come up again, we wouldn't hesitate!!
I was shocked to have just looked through some of the pictures on here, as at no point what so ever did I see anything like these pictures, maybe was just bad luck I'm not sure?!

Where to start! Family room on 4th floor was the only non-smoking room available. Room was disgusting, graffiti, blood, bogies, suspicious stains, ripped carpet, ripped wallpaper, broken furniture, mould in the bathroom, broken taps, broken floor tiles and general foulness. Bed was awful, every time I moved in the night I woke up it was that rickety.

I complained in the morning and saw the duty manager - he told me to email to hotel manager, which I did and got no reply. Have emailed 5 times but nothing.

Just stay as far away from this place as possible, it's awful. Are Britannia going bust - because it reeks of a company in trouble.

Visited this hotel on the 13th September for a 3 night Stay with national holidays / caledonian travel. Was concerned prior to the trip regarding the bad reviews. Wanted to clarify some things for future visitors to this hotel.
The room:
At the time of booking we requested a quiet room going by previous reports of being next to the LDR station. We were given a room on the 8th floor which was lovely. It was a really good size with a view of Canary wharf to the front, the riverThames to the left and the o2 arena to the far right. Yes the windows were dirty but he ho its a hotel with numerous floors and i can appreciate it being open to the elements. It certainly didnt spoil the view from the huge picture window. The room we got was an executive room. The furnishings were traditional with mahogany wood with some faded areas, not a problem to us as we like this style. The beds were comfortable with fresh white linen and had everything needed, eg iron hairdryer, hospitality tray etc. The bathroom was modern with a bath and loads of hot water. Houskeeping was efficient.
Locality:
Well sited to the nearest tube and DLR. and the river boat dock. Would be noisy if we did get a room near to the DLR. Tesco along the road and plenty of bars ands restaraunts.
Food:
We were on a half board basis. Breakfast was fine, the usual options of a cooked breakfast as well as continental. Best getting down early as it gets so busy around 8. Same with dinner ,we found eating around 6 to 7 was quieter. Dinner was a carvery with 2 other options. All was served at the right temperature. To be honest we found the food good enough. The staff were all nice and friendly.
Leisure centre:
changing rooms clean, locker key provided. peeling paint on the ceiling near the sauna and steam rooms. jacuzzi warm, watch out for some blasts of very hot water at your feet that come out at 2 spots. Pool weird shape but water temperature okay. spiral stair to get to the pool maybe not suitable for some with mobility probs. Still enjoyable after a day sightseeing.
to re cap, we had a lovely visit and would definately return. Preferred this hotel to some in central London. Dont be put off. For what we paid we had a fab visit.

Room Tip: Quiet room facing Canart Wharf. High floor.

Went on a 2 day break for my birthday via wowcher. Paid extra for a deluxe room but arrived early so room not ready. Were promised would be ready in 1 hour. Not ready after the hour, supervisor became involved and gave us another room. Very nice surprise, on top floor with a balcony and wonderful views of Thames, Canary Wharf and London Skyline. Staff very nice, especially the lady in the Conservatory bar. Meals were fine quite reasonable, you get what you pay for. Public areas very nice but dated. Room nice but also needs updating. Overall a good experience, would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with a nice view. Worth paying extra £20 to upgrade to deluxe room.

I stayed here at a busy time in London so no other options available. the room rate was very cheap for London but i guess for a reason.

The reviews of the hotel on here made me fear the worst. The furniture and decor is dated, tired and generally not 4-star in standard. It felt unloved and neglected. The bathroom was awful.

My first room was on the 13th Floor and was deafened by the noise of the DLR train running closeby - sounded like being at an airport listening to the planes taking off. To be fair, the hotel moved me to another room on the 9th floor further away the next morning so handled that well.

The reception staff would benefit from training - not one of them smiled when i watched from the check-in and check-out queue. lots of them all looking busy but a totally underwhelming approach to handling customer interactions.

I would not recommend the hotel or look to return. i don't get why such a prime real estate location is not bulldozed and re-built with something more appropriate given all the modern buildings that surround it.

Room Tip: Avoid the side nearer to the DLR train line - the soundproofing is non-existent! you can hear the ru...

Stayed here with husband and 6 year old for a Saturday night last weekend. Having read the previous reviews I was doubtful about my husbands choice of last minute hotel booking.

I did the check in and asked if any upgrades were available "you have already been upgraded" so I smiled! So far so good. Directions to the lift weren't clear and so we eventually discovered we had been using the service lift (very slow for a 13 floor hotel). So the one big improvement would be to direct to the lifts more clearly!!

Room was clean and temperature just right. Whirlpool bath (we didn't use this) with shower over - lots of hot water.

Headed out to London and, whilst the concierge wasn't there (temporarily) to tell us directions to the underground, an off duty concierge did step in to stop us waiting and gave us directions.

Breakfast was okay, choices available but the food definitely not high quality - just run of the mill mass-catered buffet style breakfast. Coffee was free flowing, waiters were on hand had we needed them. I got the impression the hotel wasnt full especially compared to the previous reviews.

Oh, and the view from our 11th floor room was lovely over the city's docklands towers and water with the O2 in the distance. We could hear the DLR but it wasnt intrusive.

Would we return - at these rates yes!!
