Britannia International Hotel
Ranked #884 of 1,076 Hotels in London
Reviewed November 12, 2012

Stayed for one night at the Britannia because of proximity to O2 arena. The hotel is in a great location with the shops and restaurants of Canary Wharf (plus tube and DLR) just a short walk away and a well stocked supermarket directly opposite. The hotel itself is a little bit dated but if you're looking for somewhere to crash for the night that offers value for money, it delivers. Reception staff were efficient and courteous. We were upgraded to a jacuzzi suite on the 11th floor. A metal spiral staircase led up to the room itself, which was huge with a long balcony offering views to the O2 and the high rise offices in Canary Wharf. Bathroom was fine. Couldn't get the shower as hot as we wanted it to go, but it was adequate. Tea and coffee making facilities, comfy bed, free toiletries, flatscreen TV, sofas. For London, the Britannia offered a strong combination of location and value. If you want the Ritz, it's not for you. If you want value for money, give it a go.

Another very tired hotel in the Britannia chain. The room was clean and tidy, but the bathroom had eperienced much better days. the tiles had what appeared to be a rust ring around the bottom of the wall. The window couldnt be closed as the latch was broken, so the noise from the very near Docklands light railway screeched through the room, starting at 06:00 in the morning; and continuing every 15 mins, accompanied by the station announcements. Not to be beaten, i managed to wedge a pencil in the hole to close the window, but the air conditioning was louder than the screeching railway wheels. Do yourself a favour and stay in the IBIS next to the excel, much quieter and cooler.

I use to go to Britannia International every year during WTM... this year was touched almost the bottom!
Room: was impossible to control the temperature, wasn't out of service, the control was only for reduce the cool air .... lobby warmer than room.
TV: only Britsh channels....(International only on the name....)
Breakfast: cold coffee, toast pre cooked and cold
Restaurants: Poor of choice, ambience depressing and cold... better go out
In my room there was free wifi and was working well, in general the hotel looks clean and the staff pleasant, but for the rate you pay you expect more.

Here are some points worth noting:

The hotel look tired and the decor is dated.
Twin rooms have two small single beds pushed next to each other.
A good nights sleep was impossible due to the train noise which is very close to the hotel.
Breakfast on the whole was fine however coffee was already found on the table in thermos flasks and is not always as hot as you would like it to be. The toast was pre cooked - floppy really untasty.
Lobby and corridors warmer than room.
Well over priced for a four star property!

Stayed one night at the Britannia International Hotel in Docklands while attending the tennis at the O2. We chose the hotel due to its proximity to the O2 and because when it first opened I had stayed there on business and it was quite impressive. No longer however. Now looking tired and the decor is dated. Knowing the typical size of London hotel rooms we had chosen a twin as this sometimes gets you a bigger room. Big mistake. The beds were tiny, certainly smaller than a normal single bed and the most uncomfortable either of us had ever experienced. A good nights sleep was quite impossible. The train noise didn't help either. Breakfast was very disappointing too. Cold plates at the hotel cooked breakfast buffet didn't bode well and all of the hot food presented was lukewarm and unappetising. Even the coffee was already on the tables in prepared filled thermos flasks. No free wifi (except in executive rooms or the lobby). In the hotel's favour, the room was clean and the staff pleasant but we would definitely not recommend to friends or stay here again. Very disappointing.

Room Tip: Don't ask for a twin room unless you want to be extremely uncomfortable. Don't have high hop...

Me and my brother stayed one night after a gig at the O2 Arena. The location is excellent - 2 minutes from Canary Wharf Station BUT, its like stepping back into the 80s (but in a bad way!) Red swirly carpet, massive Glass Chandeliers, lots of dark wood, all tatty - jaded staff on minimum wage who couldn't give a flying hoot as to whether you enjoy your stay or not.

Hotel bar dingy and dreary....several old men/minor local villains with their 'nieces' glaring menacingly at anyone that looked at them....

Room - Tiny and 85 Degrees...we asked for a twin and got a double made up of 2 tiny singles pushed together, air-con non-functioning. Hotel corridoors hotter at 90 Degrees..4pm rumbling from the Docklands Light Railway...bathroom curiously fitted out for the severley disabled - grab-bars everywhere - no sleep...can't breathe....must get out.....suffocating....

Get this at a rock bottom price via a hotel booking site... you really will feel an idiot if you pay anything like the actual room rates.

Room Tip: Don't pay the extra to upgrade to 'Executive' not worth it!
