“Great Hotel”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

We stayed here whilst having a weekend in London. The location is fantastic right next to the Tower of London.

The cookies given to us when we checked in were really nice.

We went to "Natural Kitchen" on the ground floor for breakfast - it was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had with great service. Pretty good value as well compared to the offical hotel breakfast.

I would definitely stay here again.

Great hotel! Fabulous location! While we were there when the power went out on July 26, the staff was efficient and professional in getting us to new hotels.
We had arrived the previous day and enjoyed the room. It was super clean and the bed was very comofortable.

Dear 'Lisa M',

Thank you very much indeed for praising our teams for the way in which they had handled the local area power outage we had experienced on the 26th of July. I'm pleased you had found everybody to be helpful and thank you for saying you liked your room, found our facilities to be clean, and your bed comfortable!

We hope there will be future opportunities to welcome you to our hotel and in the meantime please contact us if we can be of any further assistance,

Warmest regards
Amy

We stayed here for a weekend and the location and the hotel is spot on. The rooms are spacious and very clean, the reception and check in was very professional and we were able to check in early. In the lobby there are complimentary soft drinks, tea and coffee a very nice touch we thought. There is a fridge in the room and hooray no mini bar just an empty fridge so you can use it for your own drinks and the complimentary water the hotel provided. The room has a safe and the usual facilities you would expect in an hotel of this class, tea coffee etc. We were getting ready to go out and there was a knock at the door and we were given a bottle of wine on the house - a very nice touch once again. The rooftop bar is amazing the drinks are pricey but the views are awesome. The Gherkin, Tower 42, Canary Wharf and The Shard are all there for you to see - amazing!!!!!
All positive so far - one or two little niggles if you put your key card in your handbag and your mobile phone is in your bag it disables your key card - resulting us in getting to the 10th floor unable to access the room then we had to come back to reception to get the cards reactivated. Breakfast is a bit of a nightmare long queues as you wait to be seated it seems a bit disorganised but once you are seated the breakfast is good with hot and cold buffet. It was a Saturday night and there seemed to be many guests the worse for wear and if you wanted to sit in the bar for a nightcap I suggest you take it to your room as it is very noisy and a bit like having a drink in the middle of a busy railway station on a Saturday night.
We had a good rate and we would definitely stay here again as the pros outweigh the cons by miles.

Room Tip: ask for high floor

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing to stay at the DoubleTree Tower of London for this weekend break and for being detailed in your review about what had impressed you, and about other aspects of your stay that we can improve on.

It is really important we can be made aware of any areas of a guest's stay that hasn't been satisfactory so we can ensure improvements can be made, and so again thank you for taking the time to do this...

Firstly I'm really sorry your key card had deactivated and for any inconvenience this had caused, I hope your replacement key had been arranged quickly by our team and our apologies once again.

Additionally we do recognise that there can often be queues to enter our City Cafe restaurant for breakfast especially over weekends during the month of August. Where possible we do sometimes take the decision to utilise private events space in the hotel to accommodate guests for breakfast and we have introduced special welcome letters to inform guests of where in the hotel they can enjoy breakfast, and in this we inform guests of the times where the restaurant will be quieter in case some guests are able to take breakfast early. We will also continue to use events space where we can, especially where we are welcoming groups to the hotel, to assist in limiting any waiting times for our guests.

We are continually monitoring this and introducing improvements and changes to our approach wherever possible and I thank you for being honest in your feedback.

We hope to welcome you back to our hotel soon and do let us know if there is anything further I can assist you with in the meantime.

Kindest regards
Amy

Stayed here for 2 nights in a standard double room on the 7th floor. Arrive in the morning and was pleasantly surprised that there were rooms available to check into. Was also welcomed with a lovely warmed chocolate chip cookie, which was a nice touch. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.

The hotel is smart, clean and modern, as were the rooms. Although the rooms are not generous in space, they are very adequate and the compact bathroom (which has a shower, no bath was well appointed). The rooms have a fridge, iron, ironing board and hair dryer. As well as a vast array of mirrors which makes a nice change! It even includes a full length mirror.

We stayed in room 718 which had a good view of the gherkin. Would definitely recommend going up to the roof top bar and terrace on the 12th floor to take in the great view of the city.

The hotel is well located, about a 1 min walk from Tower Hill tube station and Tower Gateway for the DLR. There were always taxis at the front door of the hotel as well. There's quite a few hotels in the area, so it feels quite safe wandering around here if you are unfamiliar with London.

Breakfast was included in the room rate and consisted of a buffet breakfast with fruit, cereals, pastries and cooked breakfast. My only criticism of our stay were the queues to be seated a breakfast. There were a lot of staff on hand though, and we were even offered juice whilst we were waiting. We didn't have to queue long, so it wasn't too bad.

Overall a very good stay, and I would stay here again.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the doubletree. We both couldn't have asked for more from our arrival to departure. The staff were extremely helpful & friendly especially the breakfast staff.
The rooms exceeded our expectations - the beds are super comfy. The location was perfect - 2 minutes walk to Tower Bridge tube station.
We couldn't recommend the hotel enough.

This hotel was very good, just a couple of negative points. There were no bathrobes also they hid the tea/coffee tray in a draw. My son-in-law had a knock on his door at 7am they then pushed the invoice for drinks we had had the previous night under there door. I cannot understand why they did this as they had taken a copy of his bank card. So we couldn't possibly leave not paying for the drinks. They were not happy to be woken up so early! The skybar had amazing views, we had drinks on the terrace and gave the drinks waiter a tip each time we were served. But please be aware that they put service charge on your drinks bill. So actually there is no need to tip the staff at the time. Other than these minor irritation , I would 100% stay at this hotel again.
