Owner description: The prime meridian, zero degrees longitude, runs through the courtyard of the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, England, which was founded in 1675 by King Charles II.

Visited the observatory and had a great visit. The staff were very helpful, arrived just before 10:00hrs, opening time and were shown in through the side gate to the Meridian line before the large parties were allowed in. Found the displays and exhibited of time, navigation and telescopes fascinating. To see Harrisons chronographers and the work that's gone into them was great. Found that there was so much to see that a second visit will be needed, the Planetarium will have to wait until an other day.

Make sure you have good walking shoes and a hearty breakfast before this walk. Excellent views at the top. We seen the dome of St. Pauls Cathedral and the London Tower from the summit. Stood on the line between the two hemispheres, very cool! For those on a budget, go to the right of the main courtyard, through the gate and you can stand on the line for free. Worth the trip!

We travelled down form the centre of London on a riverboat which was a superb way to view London. The Observatory is well worth the visit as it is chock a block full of interesting displays. It wasn't busy when we were there which is a shame. The buildings are so beautiful too. Do go up to see the Meridian Line too.

Meridian line is interesting and a good photo opportunity. But it is completely arbitrary and the history of how the line came to be in Greenwich is quite interesting.
I think as it goes it is definitely worth a visit if only to see Harrison's clocks - they are things of immense beauty and he was one of the outstanding minds produced in England. Greenwich itself is a beautiful little town and well worth a visit to the market in town and the many museums adjoining the town itself. All in all a fantastic day out if a little pricey.
