This Hotel is in a great location over looking Kensington Gardens. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The bathrooms are functional if a little dated. The general areas are large, clean and comfy. Breakfast is piping hot and enough to start you off. The one downside to this hotel is that it is so hot in the rooms we couldn't turn the heating down and so slept with the window open in October!
I would recommend this hotel and will stay here again. The staff are very pleasant and helpful.

Just the most gorgeous older establishment with high ceilings, beautiful fittings, creaky floor boards, staircases to explore and make-yourself-at-home atmosphere. Breakfasts were excellent and prompt, wi-fi access in lounge area was good (whist in one's pyjamas in early morning!) and loved the old bathroom because it reminded me of a happy time years ago - was clean and tidy and shower water pressure was excellent. Had booked a twin room to gain extra space (travelling solo), well worth it. Booked room away from busy Bayswater Road so not much view but that was not an issue, and room was quiet. Great location for beautiful Hyde Park and great access to Oxford St and tube. Will be staying there next time in London!

London accommodation is notorious for being expensive. My partner and I chose to stay at Columbia because of it's location (near Lancaster Gate Underground Station and Kensington Gardens) and the price.

The room was large, clean and had an ensuite. The bed was very uncomfortable and the hotel doesn't seem to have been renovated since then 1970s.

Nonetheless, a light breakfast (of toast, tea/coffee & juice) was included, the staff were friendly and helpful when we needed things printed out or general directions. The exterior and lower level of the building is very beautiful (the hotel was originally 5 Victorian Terraces).

Overall, for our budget, we found the accommodation to be decent.

I have been a repeat customer of the Columbia for at least two decades. I keep coming back because it offers escellent service at a bargain price and is conveniently located for everything I want to do.

The hotel is on the Bayswater Road at Lancaster Gate, right across from Hyde Park (and for royal watchers, Kensington Palace). You can walkacross the park, pass the famous Serpentine, to Knightsebridge for shopping at Harrod's, or to Picadilly for Fortnum & Mason or shopping for men's shirts on Jeemyn St. It's a pleasant half hour stroll and if you are lucky, you'll see the mounted horse guards or some pony clubbers on the bridle paths.

If you don't go through the park, turn left outside the hotel and the Bayswater Road eventually becomes Oxford St., London's other major shopping district.

Every room has cable tv with a large screen, direct international dialing, a cofee pot. It is immacutalely clean and the beds are comfortable. I also ask for 102, which overlooks the park.

You don't really need the coffee pot, because the room rate includes an "English brakfast," which is bacon/eggs/sweet roll/coffee/juice.

All this for around 90 pounds (there is a "military rate" because the hotel started life in WWII as the "Columbia Club" for air force pilots and some of the other returnees ar veterans with nostalgia from those days).

Anything wrong? Possible the coffee, but who has good coffee in England?

Room Tip: As for the 2nd Floor Rooms overlooking the park.

Stayed at the Columbia last weekend for the Springsteen concert and we stayed in the triple room (304), This is the third time I have stayed in the Columbia and to be honest usually stay in a premier inn but as Hyde Park was across the road the location was exellent on this occasion. As mentioned previous I knew what to expect but was pleased that it had a coat of paint since my last visit in 2009. The room was old-fashioned and chintzy and smelled of sweaty feet but amazingly we got used to that (all being married ...lol). The beds were firm but comfortable the bathroom still an old avacado colour but was clean and only a bit of damp around the bath. Even though we were on the main road the street noise was minimal and I enjoyed a good nights sleep.
The breakfast was in a colonial room clean and warm . the staff were Very attentive and well mannered, not a rude person in sight. breakfast was minimal but sufficient as you can have as much tea, toast and juice as you want....all for £126 a night the week before the olympics.
If your looking for posh or boutique dont bother...But ..if you want clean and comfortable. No frills..in a prime location...book the Columbia..

This hotel is good value for money and is located close to the Lancaster Gate tube and opposite Hyde Park. The public roomsof the hotel are nice and a good breakfast is supplied. The room was small but comfortable enough for our needs and the time we spent in the room . Its in need of an update however we would stay there again.

The Columbia Hotel (just a name! British European by nature) is very affordable (Bargain) clean rooms although VERY basic (bed table wardrobe type) Location is super as overlooks Hyde Park. Walk to Oxford Street Mayfair or even across park to Harrods etc. Hotel has bar with Restaurant (perhaps best for Breakfast if included in price). Do not hope to PARK in hotel complex & tricky near by at any realistic rate (parking could cost more than hotel room) Bus stops outside door & the tube is very close. Great for one to three nights in central London at the very best prices. We recommend it to our family and friends and have done for years. Not for the 5 star seeker just great value for money. Single can cost about £79 and double about £99. They do 3 & 4 people rooms too! greatest value in central London.

The hotel is on the north side of Hyde Park about one mile from Marble Arch which is where you will find London's premier shops on Oxford Street and Bond Street. This then leads you to the theatres and the other main tourist attractions of London.

Three Bus Routes and two Underground Stations give easy access to all parts of the city. Paddington Mainline Station with the Heathrow Airport Express Link is a ten minute walk. Limited free car parking spaces are available for hotel guests on a first come first served basis and the M40 Motorway giving access to the M25 London Orbital Motorway and other routes can be reached by a simple five-minute drive.

A short stroll away, Queensway is a bustling cosmopolitan thoroughfare with diverse restaurants, cafes, shops, pubs, cinemas and multi-storey shopping centre. In contrast, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens facing the hotel are large, almost rural areas of peace and quiet in the middle of the city

Room Tip: overlooking park rooms are great but quietest on opposite side street side. parking first come first...
