“Excellent location, good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

I liked this hotel a lot.

Firstly the hotel itself - It's nice. From the pictures on the walls in the lobby to the grandfather clock in the lounge, the look/atmosphere they're going for is classically English rather than modern - the furnishings wouldn't look that out of place in a Poirot scene. The staff were polite and friendly in the few dealings we needed to have with them. Our double room was clean, comfortable and much more modern in styling than the communal areas downstairs. It was big enough and the shower was excellent. Two things worth mentioning - Firstly, the single lift/elevator is tiny. No problem when it's quiet, but you may find it frustrating if you need to use it at a busy time. Secondly, although our room had a fairly big window, it was set high in the wall so that we could not see nothing but sky. This did increase our privacy, but those hoping for a London view would be disappointed. We didn't try any food.

Secondly the location - it's one of the best locations in London. Firstly, you have some of the major attractions right on the doorstep (Natural History Museum, Science Museum, V&A, Albert Hall, Hyde Park, Kensington Palace etc.) all within easy walking. And if you want a slightly longer walk, about 25 minutes will take you to Harrods, and 45 minutes will take you right to Piccadilly Circus. But if you don't want to, there's no need to walk far at all as you have an underground station with 3 lines available (District, Piccadilly, Circle) within about 3 minutes' walk, as well as plenty of buses. The neighbourhood itself is upmarket and quite residential. That means, the night life immediately surrounding the hotel is not full on, but there are a good selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants all within very easy walking.

We paid £95 per night which, especially given the lateness of our booking and that it's in a fairly upmarket area in zone 1, seemed reasonable. I'd happily stay here again.

I must admit that I was a little nervous as to what I might find, having read some of the reviews on here after booking, but this hotel surpassed all expectation. It is literally a stones throw from the V&A, Natural History, Science museums, etc, and it was a complete joy to be able to park directly outside the entrance and leave the car there (no parking charges from Saturday afternoon until Monday morning!). In fact, I was tempted to keep this place to myself and not tell a soul!!

The hotel itself can be described as gracious. We booked a twin room, and it was huge, with lovely tall ceilings, one double bed and two singles, and a beautiful (although small) bathroom with fantastic shower The somewhat plentiful concierge staff were good fun, helpful, and knew their stuff. It was a complete bargain, at £80 including breakfast (I booked direct through the Grange website - it was cheaper than doing it through lastminute, etc). Breakfast wasn't overly inspiring, but adequate, with good coffee.

We only had one problem at the hotel, which was more of an inconvenience than anything. The locking mechanism was faulty, leaving us locked out of our room!! I understand that these things happen occasionally, but it was unfortunate that the situation wasn't handled terribly well, and we were left waiting for some time with little information as to what was going on.

I would have no hesitation in booking this hotel again. A fabulous place.

A last minute hotel booking on Saturday 13th April 2013 which I found on the internet. What a stroke of luck. Queens Park Gardens is just off Gloucester Road in Kensington and tucked away in a little back street . When looking for a hotel on the internet, one can never really be sure of what it might be like but what a stroke of luck... On Thursday I booked a room for myself and a travelling companion - I booked a double by mistake but they had no trouble in changing to a twin room. When we arrived in London we were a bit lost but we rang the hotel and they were very happy to give us exact directions. When we arrived, the staff were very helpful and really professional and polite, Although I had booked a twin room, we ended up with a family room... large double bed and two singles. Spotlessly clean and enough provisions by the way of shampoos and conditioners and other such toiletries plus teas and coffees to sink a ship. Gorgeous shower and lots of hug fluffy white towels. Our visit was brief and we didnt have breakfast but by the looks of things the dining room was lovely and nicely laid out. The bar area was very comfortable too and had a nice selection of drinks. Over all the hotel was like a town house rather than a hotel chain, the staff we lovely and I shall certainly be staying again when I next stay in London. £95 for the room - breakfast extra

After several hours searching for a good price I came across the Grange range of Hotels and the Strathmore was ideal for the Olympia and a very good price for one night so I booked it and what a good find, the history of the Hotel is there for all on their web site so I won't go on to much.
The hotel is 5-10min from Gloucester Rd tube station which is handy for the Olympia as well so that was a good start. The hotel is on a quiet road next to a small park which our room faced, the room was nice with a comfortable bed, a bit snug but still nice well we liked it any way. What we thought was cool was the curtains were soundproofed which also gave a feeling of warmth.
The hotel it self is beautiful inside and is a history of the previous residents. The bar lounge area is very relaxing with comfy couches and armchairs and waiter service very Gentlmans club feel which was nice.Having been out all day we opted for an evening meal in the hotel, and it was all at the top end of the quality scale no complaints at all and even the bottle of Proseco was good value and very nice, after the managed to get the cork off which was a bit of a challenge but a laugh for all concerned. After a very god nights sleep we had our continental breakfast which you eat as mush as you want plus the option of and extra charge for a full english but the continental was part of the deal so we stuck with it and no complaints. If I could get another one night for about the same price in the future I would stay there every time, especially when I need to catch a morning Eurostar as the Piccadily line is also at the UG station mentioned

You don't get many London hotels at this price offering this level of service. Yes, the plumbing is noisy but it's a huge old building, the floorboards creak a bit, but the rooms are delightful, the staff extremely conscientious and an outstanding breakfast is cooked to order, you couldn't really ask for me. The location is over the road from Gloucester tube in Kensington, it's just ideal plenty of bars, restaurants, fast fooderies and shops

Room Tip: Ask not to be in the basement, no hotel should put people in the dungeons

Have stayed here many times and am always pleased to return. Lovely staff, always helpful and friendly which helps to give a nice family atmosphere. Quiet location but only a stones throw from the bustle of London. A perfect home from home couldn't really ask for more.
