I am bewildered by some of the recent bad reviews for this delightful hotel, and I suspect that the truth is that if you are rude to people they will be rude back.
Several reviewers complain of rudeness and coldness from the staff. Nonsense! From the moment I approached the front door yesterday and it was opened for me by the manager I met nothing but friendliness and helpfulness from every single member of staff: reception, concierge, bell-boys, maitre d', waitresses, cleaners, room maids, housekeeper, bar staff ...
If a Holiday Inn type of experience is what you are after then don't go to Durrants, go to the Holiday Inn. Durrants is not a mass market, identical-room business hotel, nor is it a 'boutique' hotel. It is just a quiet, classy, slightly old-fashioned, beautifully quirky, caring, friendly English hotel. It is not 'trying to be what it is not'; it is being what it is, very successfully. If you don't like it, don't stay there.
