Stayed here for 12 nights with my mum. We booked last minute and were thankful for a hotel that could fit us in. Attractive from the outside; neat, tidy and clean on the inside. Staff were always very helpful. Breakfast was basic continental but more than sufficient.
Room was small but enough space to move, open suitcases etc and clean.
We stayed in a twin room with two small single beds which were the biggest issues. Mine was a spring mine whilst my mums was like rock. Despite this a good stay in a good area. Short walk to Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park and Paddington Station. Good central location with plenty of food choices if you don't want to go far.

We stayed at this hotel in July 2014. The hotel is spread over 3 joining buildings - which look quite attractive from the outside. Once indoors you become quite aware that this is a very basic hotel, we booked for room with own bathroom, there are rooms with shared bathrooms and they cater for large groups to stay in dorm like facilities. This is the first time we have ever stayed in a 2 star place - and initially it was bit of shock to the system. But looking at the positives, the location was excellent, Paddington train and subway station literally around the corner. Hyde Park no more than 15 minutes away, Edgware Rd, Baker St, Oxford St also very close - we actually walked these on a nice sunny day and came across a lot of good restaurants and major shopping areas. Negatives with hotel of course it is basic, but also you need to pay for WiFi per each device, the room we stayed continually a very bad odor coming from the bathroom - maybe something wrong with plumbing, also the decor really needs updating etc very worn carpet, peeling wallpaper. However if you want a place reasonably priced (as London accommodation can be expensive) and use it as a place to sleep then this place can be OK.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in front of Norfolk Square - the ones at the back like the one we stayed at have a ver...

Stayed at the Shakespeare Hotel for two nights as a short break in London.

My bedroom was a single room on the third floor. It was a long walk, if you having problems with stairs, please ask for one of the rooms on the first floor. The Room was ok , it was a nice tiny clean room.

The hotel has an 24 hours reception, that was really handy, as I arrived around 1 am in London.

The staff is friendly and very helpful. If you want to explore London and need an quiet area to stay that's central, this is the Hotel to stay at.

Overall I am very pleased with this choice and had a very comfortable stay.

My family and I stayed in a quad room on the third floor for three nights in May.

Pros: This hotel far exceeded my expectations of it. The rooms were clean, had plenty of space for our luggage, and had modern finishing. Bathrooms were small, but looked clean and modern. I'm frankly surprised this is a two star hotel. I stayed at a four star Grange hotel a few years back in London and I was much more comfortable in the Shakespeare Hotel. There was plenty of variety in the breakfast and it was yummy. Wifi isn't free, but it's really cheap and pretty fast. The service was amazing. The extra effort was noted and appreciated. The location is amazing. Beautiful neighborhood and Hyde Park and Oxford Street are only like 15-20 minutes away walking.

Cons: Our floor would sometimes have a bad sewage smell at night. The people making the waffles at the waffle stand at breakfast didn't give off a very positive vibe and were even rude at times. I think service is one of the most important things that sets apart a good hotel from a bad hotel. I was pleased with the overall service at the Shakespeare Hotel, however.

Overall, I will definitely be staying at this hotel again when I revisit London.

I was on the top floor which meant a lot of steep and narrow stairs.
My room was very small but also very cosy. It had everything I needed and it was very clean. It was more than enough for me since I was away most of the day.
The included breakfast was great.
I would appreciate a free Wi-Fi.
The Underground is right next to it.

If next time I stay in London I wouldn't expect to spend much time in the hotel during the day I'll definitely return because the price-value ratio is great.

The Hotel is placed near underground and RER station. There is also a station of the BigBus tour.
The room is little, but clean. Pleasant staff. You can get adaptor or a hair dryer from the reception.
You can also use the wifi, but for additional payment.
There no elevator and the stairs are not so comfortable for lifting the luggage, but the staff can help with that.
We were at the hotel for 4 nights and enjoyed our stay. Excellent location, you can get to many attractions in 10-20, such as Big Ben, London Eye, Madame Tussauds museum, Oxford street and more. In 5 min you can get to Kensington's gardens.
Good hotel if you need it only for the shower and a night sleep.
