“Great apartments in Mayfair”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2012

We have been in the Ascott Mayfair some years ago and still remember our stay as one of the best vacation rentals we´ve been to.
Nice decor , kitchen with all you can need including washer dryer.
Fantastic place to be in London , if you like serviced apartments instead of hotel rooms.

Imagine your plight when you keep all your cash and valuables in the in-room safe of the hotel, and it literally is ripped apart. Who could do such a thing when my room is on the 3rd floor of the apartment, and the entry points have a receptionist who has to buzz in and out every visitor??

The most impossible aspect is the sheer negligence of responsibility by the management and entire staff of the hotel, who when we informed of this incident( we were out for 2 hours in the evening) told us to call the cops ourselves as they had nothing to do with it. No insurance for in room safe?

Beware.

Dear Sir/Madam

Though I understand the frustration which you feel at present, please let me reassure you that this is an ongoing investigation. At this time there are no suspects identified to be associated with the residence or any negligence proven on the security systems in place at the residence.

You, your family and friends have been coming to the Ascott Mayfair for a few years without the issue of your safety being a concern. The residence has a good selection of CCTV surveillance which was all viewed, a key card room entry system, which did not record any unlawful entry into the apartment on that day and the front door is fitted with a video surveillance control system which allows staff to scan guests and visitors who gain access into the building.

Time delays are warranted when you are gathering information and investigating the circumstances associated with a claim.

As I discussed on a few occasions all the information has been given to the authorities and I trust that they will come back to us as soon as they have finished their investigations. I assure you that we are as eager to find out the results of the investigation and are offering as much support as we can to the authorities. We have never had any such incident in the 18 years that Ascott Mayfair has been operating and are naturally keen to clarify the issue as soon as possible.

Yours Faithfully
D.Camille

Shocked by the other, positive reviews of this down-at-the heels hotel. I'm sure it was nice- in the mid-Eighties when it was last decorated. Everything is worn- from the stained upholstery in the lobby to the flaking veneer on every piece of furniture in my room. The bed's as hard as a rock and the grout in the bathroom black as tar. The staff is friendly enough, but ineffective and incompetent. So far, during my stay, we've had a week without hot water, fire alarms going off in the middle of the night, neighbors who allow their children to roam the halls screaming and slamming doors (I think other reviewers find the Ascott a good value because they're cramming their whole extended family into one one bedroom apartment). All the while the staff do nothing, offer nothing. All this for US 15,000.00 a month. Value!?!?!!!

Room Tip: Forget it and book Browns.

My son and I stayed here from 19th till 30th April 2012. We find the place to be very comfortable especially the bed, pillows and linens. It's location is the one single item that provides value for money. The one single item that the management could improve upon is the speed of the Internet connection.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 408 and find it to be good

We had a very nice staying at Ascot. The staff is very polite and helpful and really helped us in everything we needed. We have a baby and I request a bathtub for him, what was promptly arranged, I also needed a doctor and they found right away.
The hotel is in a great location, you can walk to Piccadilius Circus and there are lots of restaurants close by.
The room was big, two bedrooms and a small kitchen, what is great when you travel with kids.
I will never forget how warm and cozy the hotel was when we arrived from the outside tours.
The only thing I did not like: there was no food in the fridge, only water, and some coffee and tea bags, we all arrived tired from a long flight and I was expecting to have something to eat available for the kids, as it is a hotel residence, my husband had to go right away and buy something for the kids.
I recommend the hotel and will be staying there again for sure:)

Before I start this review, this is the fourth time I have stayed at this property and the staff were all polite and did their utmost to help. However the place is falling apart. Simple things that the hotel management should be on top of are just not happening. These are the things I can remember we're wrong and this is supposed to be a five star property.

Heating too high, thermostat broken, even in middle of feb place was like a sauna. Shower not working. Both plugs in bathroom sinks not working, beside lamps not working, floor in kitchen falling apart, lift broken, both exercise bikes in gym broken, step machine broken steam room alarm would not go off, blinding broken in one room, could not close them.

We complained and were offered another apartment but we had waited an hour for the heating to be sorted and were late for our Sons 18th birthday dinner, so we decided to stay put on the basis that everything would be fixed that evening, which it was except for the plugs in the bathrooms and the blind which stayed shut all weekend. All these are minor things but when added up make a big problem and all should be checked. Additionally the whole place just looks like it needs refurbishing.

Lastly there was nowhere to sit in either rooms, so my wife and daughter could not do their hair and make up without standing up and the location of the plugs is bizarre.

This is a £350 a night hotel and is in a great location, but the senior hotel management of this chain have let this property go to the dogs.

Staying there was not what we expected.
The apartments are in definite need of a refurbishment and the "lobby" would do with a bit of a refresh. The staff was helpful, but the best thing is location, a short walk away from oxford street and bond street.
