“Great location, Great staff but not so great amenities”
Reviewed April 7, 2014

The hotel is just minutes away from the madness that is Oxford Street but is located just off the quiet and serene Grosvenor Square garden. It's a beautiful hotel with very polite and attentive staff - from check in, to the Club Lounge and to check out. The rooms are beautifully furnished. However it is let down by a very narrow bathtub/shower. I'm not a big person (my clothes are sized small) but even I keep knocking against the safety bar against the wall. I finally had to shower mainly sideways to avoid banging against the wall and the bar. The 2nd setback was the gym. If, like me, you need to work out, this is not the hotel for you. There is a serious lack of adequate amenities on this score. The heaviest dumbbell is only 5 kg. While machines are understandably limited, proper investment should be made for a range of dumbbells of, say, between 10 to 30 kg. there don't need a lot of space and are very versatile in any workout. But other than that, the hotel is great. A special shoutout to the staff at the club lounge - very attentive and friendly. The hotel is also within a comfortable walking distance to Bond Street underground station. To get to the station without having to walk along the madness that is Oxford St., look out for Gilbert St. After you pass a private compound on your left, lookout for the Underground station sign at West One Shopping on the right. The station is at the basement of this building. Very convenient if you have lots of shopping bags or just plain tired. Lovely hotel and would always return anytime. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the garden. It's very beautiful.

We visit London often and have stayed here for long weekends for nearly 30 years. The location is fantastic. We will probably stay elsewhere next time in London mainly for the following reasons:
They charge for wifi but the wifi was poor and we had difficulties getting internet access all weekend (it was deducted from our bill).
We were allocated a very shabby room on the 7th floor - the grouting was dirty, the door frame in the bathroom looked rotten, wallpaper peeling off the wall, lightbulb not replaced (adding to the gloomy feel) and the mattress was poor.
This might be expected in a cheap budget hotel but not for the price we paid. We should have complained and asked for a better room but it is a hassle to change rooms and at least it was quiet. Perhaps hotels in Mayfair don't have to make much effort but this one will slip further down the ratings if it doesn't try harder.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room.

Dear Guest

Thank you for writing a review of your recent stay at the Millennium Mayfair.

We are terribly sorry to learn of your disappointing experience. We are aware that our wifi connectivity is, on occasions, not of the highest standard and we are currently looking at a new system which will overcome these problems. We don't have a completion date as yet, but it is at the top of our list of essential works to be undertaken.

If space had been available, we would certainly have moved you to a different room and assisted you with the move. Our Duty Manager is on call 24 hours a day and would have been pleased to try to accommodate you. On another stay, do please bring any issues to our attention so that you leave us satisfied with your overall experience.

We are so sorry that on this occasion we failed to meet your expectations and hope you will give us another chance on a future visit to London.

Yours sincerely

In millennium Hotel Mayfair, it needs 10 minutes walk in any direction to go to popular places like coven garden , Piccadilly , Oxford , Big Ben , Trafalgar , Hyde Park .....

It has a great coffee shop / Bar at the lobby where you can have a pleasant drink during the day and to relax during the daily tour in London.

The front desk staff is awful. No smiles. This is London. Hire people who can speak English. I had to wave my arms and make gestures to describe what I wanted. In the restaurant they asked if I wanted bread and water with my meal and charged me 4 pounds for each (pad the bill, aye?). I think they use this hotel as housing for juries. One night I arrived and a guy was asleep on the sofa in the lobby. There were large crowds of people staying there who did not know each other. So weird. I wanted a receipt and had to email someone who did not respond.

Room Tip: My standard room was large, for London and very comfortable. No need to get a superior room.

The hotel was very comfortable and afforded a good nights sleep. The staff were a little over attentive, but that's not necessarily a drawback, and I appreciate that may be for the benefit of the foreign visitors. For the one night cost, which is equivalent to what I paid for a week's stay in a three bedroom apartment in Malta, I would have expected at least free wifi. Do be cautious when going to the bar in the hotel, as £6.95 for a small bottle of beer is by my calculations at least a 10x mark up. I know it's London, but you shouldn't expect to have to take out a personal loan for a beer.

Room Tip: Take a room at the back overlooking the mews. It's quieter

Not the greatest hotel but not the worst either. This hotel has a fabulous location close to bond st metro and 5 minutes from sselfridges in one directions. 10 minutes to buckingham palace. The hotel itself does a ok breakfast, beds are comfortable but housekeeping quick superficial. The hotels furniture and bathrooms is quite tired and needs refreshing. So if you need a place to sleep and that's all then this is good enough. If you'll like a bit of the trimmings that would warrant the price perhaps not.

We stayed in January this year the delay in review is due to illness.
I emailed the hotel explaining that I had a carer and was coming to stay to recover from a hospital admission. We live in Cornwall, I had treatment at the Royal Brompton.
From the moment we walked through the door we were given a service that you don't find very often. The room was lovely looking out over Grosvenor Square. The reception staff were impeccable. The bed was like a big fluffy cloud!! The breakfast was lovely loads of choice and such friendly staff. Barry and the concierge team were great getting my motor scooter in and out for me, also making light of this. It's difficult sometimes to have to rely on such things they made it fun and couldn't do enough. Room service was lush value for money definitely.
We loved the club lounge, I can't recall the gentle mans name that made us Kir Royals but they were very much appreciated. All in all our stay was wonderful and hopefully we'll see you sometime in July/august. Depending on my health and treatments.
Thank you you made a difficult time very heartwarming. Good old fashioned Service x x x

Room Tip: Get the best you can afford. Overlooking the square is lovely
