“Great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2012

The Copthorne Tara Hotel provided us with everything we needed and the service was great! We loved how close it was to sites and the underground which made it ideal for site seeing. The room was comfortable, spacious and well kept. The staff was very helpful and provided wonderful customer service. We also enjoyed eating at the hotel and food was great!

I stayed here on two separate occasions in August 2012, having taken advantage of a £79 a night including breakfast deal some months previously.

The first room I stayed in was, as some other reviewers have said, 'rather tired' and in need of some refurbishment. In particular the bathroom was definitely below the standard one would normally expect from this sort of hotel. The second room I stayed in was significantly better although the same comments about the bathroom apply.

The rooms are of a good size however and the reception staff courteous, even friendly. The location is great being a few minutes walk from Kensington High Street,

Breakfast is buffet style but has a great range of food with abundant supplies of tea and coffee being served by roving waiting staff. Some of the staff, however, are over-zealous about removing the plates almost before one has finished eating.

Overall, because of the price I'm giving this a 4 star rating although if I had paid £100+ for the room I'd have rated it as 3 star.

The location is really handy, just off Kensington High Street, with tube & buses within a few minutes walk.
We arrived in London in pouring rain & turned up 3 hours before check-in, on the off-chance of our room being ready. We were given a genuinely warm welcome - no problems, by a really friendly & helpful reception.
The rooms are big by London standard (think Premier Inn size & style) & well equipped (incl iron). The fridge was really useful, since there's a late-night Tesco Express nearby. The beds were comfortable & the lighting bright enough to work by. However, the bathroom had some maintenance issues - plug & lighting both dodgy, & no attempt to repair during our stay. If I'd been paying full rate, I'd have been furious, but since we'd had a special offer rate comparable to a regional Premier Inn, I still felt the hotel was overall very good.

MY husband and I stayed in the Copthorn Tara for three nights. Excellent location, close to tube, buses, very safe for walking around and plenty of shops nearby. The hotel is huge- 883 rooms, its a busy hotel but staff were friendly and helpful. Decor is dated in the bedrooms/ensuites but clean. Windows dont open but airconditioning/heating easy to control. Big negative was 10 pounds for 24 hours broadband and there were charges in the public area that had wifi. Hint : starbucks and McDonalds have free wifi.
Breakfast at 17 pounds was very expensive though the receptionist gave us vouchers for 10 pounds for breakfast. My husband used once for breakfast meeting and lukewarm food. Recommendation: the Muffin Man coffee shop round the corner is excellent and we had lovely freshly cooked breakfast the other mornings. One thing should be noted is that getting a good deal online means you have to accept twin or double and dont get a choice and also our room was musty from stale cigarette smoke. Would I stay again - yes for location and price. we paid 456 euro for 3 nights and we felt that was good value for London.

Room Tip: Ask for quiet side, some sides parrell with tube line

Great hotel. Great location, good condition and clean rooms etc. But in central London you get what you pay for - so despite the little on the high side cost, well worth it. To my mind, good for a short stay weighing up the cost benefit of time in London. Short walk to tube and some excellent local pubs. Local restaurants very good and upmarket.

Unfortunately I have to say that I was very disappointed with the quality of this hotel (especially having stayed at other Copthorne and Millennium Hotels previously), it really isn't 4* standard.

It is in a good location (2-3 minute walk from High Street Kensington tube station) and the entrance/foyer is kept in good shape and the staff seemed pleasant enough also, but the rooms themselves are a let down.

The bedrooms are of a decent size (especially when we consider the fact we are in London) but I found mine to be very dirty and furnished to a very low standard. There were clumps of hair in the toilet, and I resorted to cleaning the bath out before I would take a shower in it as it was incredibly 'grimy'. The bedding was also covered in a lot of black fluff. I don't usually investigate every inch of a hotel room but given the state of the bathroom I took a closer look in other places and found the wardrobe to be full of dust and the lampshades full of cobwebs. Wallpaper was also torn in several places with cello tape patching up many areas. There was also a very odd smell, which I can only describe as an 'old damp' type of smell. The furniture was wooden and looked like something from the 1960's in desperate need of updating. The corridors outside were also similar, very worn and old.

Overall, the rooms are in desperate need of a big clean and modernising. I felt uncomfortable my entire stay and was very keen to leave the following day. I would not stay at this hotel again, and I can safely say it has also put me off staying at other hotels within the chain (even though I've had no problem with those in the past).
