This hotel is in a great situation and service was first class room I have been in better but very clean and comfortable but have to say £190 for one night was to much rather annoyed to find here that people have payed £145 but food good and service spot on just not worth the amount charged

Went with a friend for a belated 50th birthday treat and to see The Lion King (oh and to see my daughter who lives in London). Stayed at the Strand Palace for 2 nights with breakfast for £75 each per night. When we arrived we had been upgraded at no cost to a King Size twin, lovely room, lots of space, nice bathroom with plenty of toiletries and spares.

Staff friendly and the breakfasts were really good (busy restaurant but plenty of food). We were so near everything (theatre, Covent Garden, Liz's pad up the road with the fancy gates and uber big house, the Thames etc etc). My friend hasn't been for 18 years and was agog! Would definitely stay at this Hotel again, so central and actually for the location we thought it was really good value and great to get the upgrade (no idea why!).

The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 is that had a couple of nights of slightly disturbed sleep by the coughing, sneezing, snorting man in a room nearby...not the fault of the hotel but just made me a bit more tired than I would have liked to have been!

It's not too often that I can find this hotel with rooms under £200 a night, so after finding it on Trivargo for £169 it was promptly booked for a 3 night stay in London. The best thing about this place is it's location - bang in the middle of where it is all happening. Generally the hotel was fine but for a few niggles, which mainly were staffing issues. Upon arrival the hotel couldn't find our booking so we were asked to wait in a business lounge whilst they sorted the problem. To start with this was fine, especially as we had free newspapers, sweets, nuts and coffee. But then they forgot about us until we asked what was happening. We also had fun trying to get the receptionist to understand what a coat hanger was, and then our cocktail makers in the bar had never heard of a B52 drink! So we had a great time in a nice hotel but the experience was let down a little bit by some of the staff. Perhaps more local staff who could understand the English language would solve this issue, and there is more to being a cocktail mixer than just being good looking - training on a wide range of drinks should be a standard in any 5 star hotel.

We had reservations at a nearby hotel, but decided to try the Strand at the last minute. The price was right and the location could not be beat. The room was super spacious with a modern decor. We didn't have a view, but that was fine with us. The only issue for us was that the room did not have air conditioning. We happened to be in London on an 80 degree day and the room was pretty stuffy. The hotel provided a fan (which we pressed into service), but it was still a little warm. It was less about temperature and more about air flow. The bathroom did not have a vent (and the windows did not open). Other than that--fabulous stay! We used the restaurant and had wonderful service and a good meal. We will be back!

Hard to find a more central hotel, but the Strand Palace, whilst convenient, is a bit on the pricey side for what you are getting ... single rooms are very small and the decor is a little old-fashioned. Lifts are tortuous ...

Room Tip: Lower floors to avoid having to wait for a lift

I stayed three nights, saw five shows and because of the location I was able to walk to every one of them. It is within walking distance of some of the art galleries. It was an easy tube journey to museums and attractions. Loved being so close to Covent Garden.
All the staff was pleasant and helpful. The buffet breakfast was excellent. My stay was good value for money.
There were a couple of problems, my room was a little warm and when I had a shower I couldn't find a way to stop water going over the bathroom floor.
I've already booked another visit in July.

Room Tip: Request a room either at thee back of the hotel or at the side towards the back.

This hotel is good value if you don't pay the full rate
The rooms are good, some quieter than others. Bar and restaurant are good, I stayed there for 3 days a week for 8 months, which should tell you something. They just finished the renovation, so it looks pretty from the outside now. Btw it's interesting to note that this was the main base for US military on R&R during WW2, so it was quite central to the memories of a lot of US servicemen.

Gym and pool are over the road, at Virgin - a really good one under the old RAF officers club on the Strand.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet one if you want one. At the back is best, higher up
