“Perfect location for a city trip”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

The hotel has had a revamp since my previous stay and has an attractive lobby area and bar/restaurant. It's located really ideally for Covent Garden market, the theatres and isn't too far from the British museum and other attractions. I walked everywhere from there. I usually prefer staying around the Piccadilly Circus area, but I may just change my mind about that and stay here again in future. The area is somehow not as run-down as Piccadilly and the hotel is reasonably close to the underground station, but still quite a slog if you're dragging 20kgs of luggage. I had a single room and it had everything I needed, including coffee and tea, toiletries and wi-fi, although I couldn't get the latter to work, but it's probably me and not the facility! I asked for a room facing the courtyard at the back based on recommendations on TripAdvisor and that was a good idea. Unfortunately my room was on the corner where the other passage veers off at 90 degrees, and that room was occupied by a vociferous cougher and he was essentially facing my window, which wasn't great. As in many hotels the soundproofing is really non-existent, but for the kind of trip I made it was ok. It was also reasonably priced considering it's location by comparison, although certainly not cheap. I didn't have the breakfast there, but saw long queues at the breakfast room every morning. They have a free luggage storage facility after checkout, which is really great, and the doorman was very helpful in flagging down a taxi for my ride to the station. The afternoon high tea look very nice and sumptious.

Room Tip: Definitely facing the courtyard if you like quiet.

Stayed here with business for 1 night, unusually whilst only requiring a bedroom for one person this literally meant a single bedded room which I rarely come across in my travels.
I cannot actually think of any real issues with this hotel, it's in a very good location for 'theatre land' and therefore a tourist trap.
It's not the sort of hotel I'd take my wife to for a romantic night away in London, it's a huge hotel with a busy foyer and not the sort of place you'd go for the personal touch. Breakfast, while perfectly acceptable, was again served in an extremely busy and bustling restaurant.
The room seemed recently refurbished and had all the requirements in a room jammed into a very small area being a single bedded room. Walls were thin and person next door kept me awake for a while chatting away on his mobile phone!
In summary, it felt like a Travelodge although 4 times bigger. The sort of place you check in, go and visit the sites, have your breakfast, pay your bill and leave and they would never even notice you'd been there in the first place!
Have stayed in worse but of course a lot better. If you particularly want that area, I recommend the Charing Cross Hotel just down the road if you can get one of the Specials rates.

I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea here for my hen party. The value for money was excellent - we had our own function room with the full service for an extremely reasonable price. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

went up to london to see cabaret which by the way was fantastic...booked hotel without realising how very convenient to the theatre it was.(savoy theatre)
five minutes walk from charing cross station. 10 minutes if that to covent garden, leicester square, trafalgar square etc.
for the price we paid it was superb. we had the club room...quite small but beautifully arranged with everything you could need. plenty of tea and coffee and water and toiletries.
will be back there next time in london.

Room Tip: expect get a lot more space with executive room but club is perfectly adequate

We stay in London several times a year and normally stay at Hilton Trafalgar or Waldorf but due to there high prices decided on The Strand Palace and I could not have been more pleased and will be staying here in future. The price is good,we had a friendly welcome from giuseppe and were given our room early which was newly decorated and exceptionally clean and comfortable.i liked the luxury toiletries and complimentary bottled water and magazines in reception. The breakfast choice and quality again exception. The location is perfect for shopping, sightseeing, restaurants and shows.we went to the Aldwych a short walk away to see Top Hat which was amazing.Highly recommend this hotel and will be returning soon.

Room Tip: Double room perfectly adequate but if you want a big room go for the upgrade
