“Looking a bit tired !!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2013

Having used this hotel previously on business my stay there recently was a little disappointing. The ground floor level and corridors are all very nice, the staff are exceptionally friendly and efficient but the rooms are looking a little tired. The shower head holder had come away from the wall and had been left on the side of the bath (complete with rawl plug), the brass plating on the door handles was worn off, and the general bedroom furniture is ready for a re-fit. The other thing that hit me was that the paint is peeling from the windows outside really badly and just makes the building look shabby
On the plus side it was clean and comfortable and the location is ideall for touring London...it`s just losing a bit of its sparkle.

Hotel outside looks dated but it is a great location for weekenders. St Katherine's dock has lots of restaurants so you can stay close by. Hotel rooms are clean although breakfast can be very busy and a free for all. Bus from Tower of London to embankment means you can take in all major sites for single bus fare.

Would recommend and have been back many times - staff are friendly and if you get in before check in porters will store bags.

First time staying at this hotel booked a room with a tower view we had the choice of the 10th or the 4th floor as my husband not a fan of heights we chose 4th. The room was spacious with a safe iron board and hair dryer and usual amenities . It offered free wi fi. With no limit on time .The staff were friendly and helpful and the views of the tower were fab. Believe it or not we had a picnic at the marina in October. This hotel is in a lovely location and was ideal for relaxing. Would highly recommend it. Ps downside was no mini bar but not a hardship.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for tower view well worth it

Booked a standard room in this hotel on the Friday evening for stay the next day via Amex offers and got 25% off the room price. When we checked into the hotel, around 11pm, the helpful receptionist offered a free upgrade to a suite which we happily accepted.

The room was good, clean, with two TVs (one in the bedroom and one in the lounge area), Bose iPhone sound dock (new lightning connector I might add), Nespresso coffee machine in the kitchen but sadly only one mug and no cups for tea in the morning. We requested cups be brought up but despite calling twice they never materialised.

We had a good view of St Katherine Docks from the balcony and spent time out there and in the conservatory area on the back of the room drinking Prosecco & good quality food from room service.

Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to this hotel and would have given it a five had the cups turned up when asked.

Dear reviewer,
Thanks for your post. I’m pleased that you were happy with the upgrade and enjoyed the added benefits in the Suite. I’m sorry to read that we let you down, I can imagine how frustrating it must have been not receiving the cups. Its great to read that you wouldn’t hesitate to come back.
Kind regards,
Billy

A terrible looking building, but once you're inside it's quite nice. Rooms at the front have great views of the Thames and Tower Bridge. Beds are very comfortable. St Katherine's Dock is worth a look, and offers restaurant choices very nearby.

Room Tip: Get one at the front, with a Tower Bridge view.

Stayed here for a night during a seminar. The hotel has several great advantages: its location in the heart of London, by Tower Bridge and backing onto St Katharine's Docks. Despite its busy location, the rooms are quiet, the one I got was very spacious and with a bed I could turn around on in every direction and not hang off!
The staff are lovely (the concierge offers to look after your luggage after checking out, no need to ask), you can't fault the service, and breakfast was a very nice buffet: continental, English or freshly cooked, according to preference. But I agree with Mike B: the decor is tired, the furniture could do with some updating and the bathroom needs replacing in the near future. However, it is perfectly serviceable for a little while yet, so I don't see this changing any time very soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking St Katharine's Docks if you want a really peaceful night of sleep.

Stayed in September for two nights in a double room for a wedding. I know London well and this hotel has a poor reputation but as our friends were getting married there we decided the best option would be to stay there and we could celebrate with our friends more comfortably, besides rumors are just rumors right? From the outside the hotel is quite oppressive looking, all concrete and pebble-dash however once inside the hotel is actually very nice (at least in terms of the communal/public areas) and the location/views from bar/restaurant are second to none, perhaps the best in London. Check in was a bit of a challenge, they couldn't find our booking for at least 10 minutes and then magically it appeared and off we were sent to our room which faced St Katherine's Dock. Very disappointing room (as this is an expensive hotel), lots of cracked tiles and smell of damp in bathroom, furniture in the room itself was poor quality, handles ripped off drawers, covered in chips/scratches etc mismatched plastic hangers in wardrobes. I appreciate that hotels in central London see a lot of traffic and to a certain extent these things may be unavoidable, however on the day that our friends were getting married we called housekeeping and asked for an iron and ironing board. 1 hour and 45 minutes later (and after four more phone calls) the iron arrived, pretty poor service. Breakfast was poor as well, stale pastries, poor selection, all in all a disappointing stay that was not kind on the wallet.
