“Lovely . . . worth the expense”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

I have been to London many times and have stayed at a variety of hotels. This is one of my favorites. Unlike most European hotels, the room was spacious! The staff was one of the friendliest I've yet to encounter. The hotel is in a safe neighborhood and conveniently located near a lot of major attractions. If you're in London for New Year's Eve, this is the place to stay. The London Eye is located directly across the river and offers a fantastic view of the fireworks.

“The staff was one of the friendliest I've yet to encounter.” Your wonderful comment has been posted on our guest comment board for all the team at the hotel to read, they work very hard to give each and every guest that special 5* experience.

I was also pleased that you enjoyed your room and the hotels location, we do have pride of place for the New Year fireworks but you need to book early as the river rooms sell out fast with many returning guests booking for the next year as they leave. We look forward to welcoming you back in the not to distant future.

Kind Regards

This hotel is now added to my favourites. I will stay here every time I get chance to visit London. The hotel is totally charming and has such class. The staff make us very welcome, our room was on the back of the hotel so there was no view but this did not distract from the well appointed clean room. The bed was comfy and I had a good nights sleep. Room service was good even though the food was nothing special. Breakfast was well presented with a lovely choice of food. Thank you to everyone involved in my stay for making it so lovely.

Reading your comments proves that we are on the right track to giving our guests that special experience each time they stay with us, and when I read that you will stay every time you are in London that just reinforces this.

I was pleased that you enjoyed your room and its amenity’s but disappointed that you were not impressed with the breakfast offering. I can assure you that your comments have been passed on to the Director of Food & Beverage as they are constantly looking for ways to improve the level of service offered.

We look forward to your next visit and hope that you will find the changes that we have made to the breakfast offering to your tastes!

Kind Regards

This is the 3rd time I have stayed in the Horseguards. Upon arrival we got our room upgraded to be river facing from which we were able to see the London Eye and we also had a small balcony. The rooms were spotless and luxurious and included a big walk-in shower complete with TV! Our room was serviced everyday and we had a turn down service in the evening complete with a copy of the Evening Standard and a little card with the next day's weather forecast - lovely touch.

The location really is second to none - in the quiet Whitehall area very close to Trafalgar Square, Parliament buildings and Buckingham Palace. It is also a 5 minute walk from Embankment underground station which is well serviced by the main lines.

However, my only criticism would be to do with the service at Breakfast. We had breakfast on two of the mornings and on both occassions the service was not as prompt as one would expect from a 5 star hotel. Our tables took a long time to be cleared, the food we ordered took a long time to arrive and the cereal/fruit buffet area was very cramped. However, the food itself was fine. I know that the hotel was fully booked at the time of our stay and the staff were probably pushed to their limits. Never the less, this is a 5 star hotel and was not by any means cheap, so I would have expected a top class service. This is the reason I am only giving a 4 star rating.

Overall I would say it is a lovely hotel in an excellent location and I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: River facing rooms on the 6th floor or above have excellent views

It is always a pleasure to receive reviews from repeat guests; I was pleased to read that you enjoyed your room upgrade with the extra comfort and incredible view. Many guests have commented on the turndown service and what it entails and have enjoyed the little extra touches.

However in regards to your comments about the breakfast service we take feedback from our guests to heart and I have ensured that your comments has been passed onto our Head Chef who is responsible for the breakfast service. He will use your comments to re train the breakfast staff on their customer service skills where required.

I was pleased to read that you will return to us again in the future and we look forward to welcoming you back

Kind Regards

This hotel has modern, luxurious rooms within an historic structure.
The location is ideal, just blocks from Trafalger Square & the museums
there. The Embankment tube stop is very close as well. The staff is
most professional. The continental breakfast is generous.

Room Tip: You could ask for a room facing the Thames if you wish. My room on the street was quiet, however.

After doing some considerable research on hotels in central London, I'm so happy I picked this one! I had booked the hotel for my husband's birthday and we were also in town to watch the Rolling Stones in Hyde Park. As soon as we checked in, the staff were very attentive, happy to help, always smiling and jovial. Fortunately we had a room with a view overlooking the Thames and we were very happy with the quality of the room and the hotel itself. Breakfast was good, buffet-style and again the staff were very helpful and service was very prompt. All in all, a perfect weekend and thank you to the staff at the hotel for making my husband's birthday celebrations a weekend to remember! I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a central location and impeccable service.

I was delighted to read that we were able to make your husbands special day a memorable one considering we were up against the “Rolling Stones”. We pride ourselves on providing that special touch to enable you to not have to worry about anything during your stay.

As you said the view across the River is spectacular and I will ensure that your kind comments regarding the Reception and breakfast teams will be passed onto them.

Thank you for saying that you would recommend us and we hope that we will be able to welcome you and your husband back to the hotel soon.

Kind Regards

This hotel is in Central London, near Trafalgar Square and just off the Embankment and Whitehall. A short walk to Westminster Abbey, The London Eye etc. - it's a perfect location from which to see London.

The nearest tube station is Embankment and the nearest railway station is Charing Cross. It is located on the River Thames and is right with many UK government buildings. A fun fact is that the building was used by the Ministry of Defense during both world wars and was used by MI5 and MI6! You feel a bit like James Bond walking down the street - cell service can be interrupted - due to the old, thick building walls or its proximity to government buildings - not quite sure which!

It is a beautiful hotel with lots of history. Because of that "history", each room is not exactly the same size and, while we booked two "equal" rooms, one was decidedly larger than the other. Both were quite comfortable, however, and the amenities were perfect. A quick call to the front desk should help resolve the room situation and they will move you if there is availability - we chose not to move as we were already settled into the room and would have waited a day for a larger room to open.

Overall, a fantastic hotel in a great location in which you really feel like you're a part of London history.

Thank you for your great review of the hotel, your description of our location leaves nothing to be added. We were used buy many different government entities during the world wars including the American air force and the British home Guard as well as the SIS/ MI5 & MI6.

We are at present trying to resolve the issue with the phone signals and the room sizes differ because the building was not a purpose built hotel and is grade one listed, which restricts us as to what we can do.

We look forward to being able to welcome you back to the hotel in the near future.

Kind Regards

This hotel is a rare gem in London. The location is great; only one block from the Embankment tube station, 3 blocks from Trafalgar Square, 3 blocks to the houses of parliament, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey. Southbank is right across the bridge with the Eye and other great attractions. The rooms are big enough with very nice bathrooms, linens and comfortable beds. The tea downstairs is quite nice as are the concierge staff who know everything...

The final benefit is the cost - this place is quite reasonably priced and may be the best buy this close in.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Thames.

I was so pleased to hear that you chose us as your first stop on your European adventure; I know the whole team will be extremely proud to read your kind comments in particular the Concierge and Restaurant teams.

As you said our location is fantastic and makes it so easy to be able to explore London on foot, and as you mentioned our prices are quite reasonable and you should keep an eye on our web site with regards to your next stay

We look forward to being able to welcome you back very soon.
