“A Very Good North London Hotel”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

The hotel is only a few minutes walk from Swiss Cottage tube station (Jubilee Line) and is positioned in the Camden area of North London.

There are usually 2 or 3 reception staff on the check-in desk and they generally provide a warm welcome. The check-in process is usually painless and fairly fast.

I stay here regularly and usually have had no issues, although the elevators do seem to play up quite often with usually at least one down for maintenance.Getting down from the upper floors to the lower ones in the morning can be slow therefore!

There is a nice pool and spa area and the gym, while on the small side, is reasonably well equipped, with 3 or 4 TVs to watch while you tone those muscles.

I rarely use the restaurant as there is a good choice of restaurants nearby, including some which will deliver take-outs to your room! When I have used the restaurant, I have not been impressed. A friend and myself ordered the "nachos and chill beef" one evening, only to receive what looked like some crushed remnants of a crisp packet and a teaspoon of the blandest chilli on Earth. The waiter eventually had to fess up that they'd run of the ingredients!

Room service food quality is not brilliant.

For Platinum members, there is an Executive Lounge on the 6th Floor, and Betty does a great job of looking after all of us who use it. Complimentary beer and wines in the evenings as well as the usual hors d'ouvres.

There are some very nice rooms on the 7th floor of the Penthouse Suite variety.

There is an ATM machine in the lobby.

The staff are generally very warm and friendly.

Room Tip: The Penthouse Suite rooms on the 7th floor have great views.

I stayed two nights here. I didn't use any of the hotel's facilities, but having stayed in around a dozen other hotels in its class in London, I would rate the room itself as above average. It had a king-size bed, minibar/fridge, tea/coffee service, ironing facility, and enough space for two people to move around without a traffic signal. The lighted bar in the closet was a nice feature, as were the king-size towels--a rarity in UK hotels. The Swiss Cottage tube station is less than 200 meters away, and the Jubilee line is a good one for getting to the main attractions in the city center. I was skeptical when I booked it, and the exterior looks classic 1970s--tired. But I was pleasantly surprised and would stay there again--but then, when I go to London, all I want from a hotel is a clean, quiet and safe place to sleep.

Staff was unhelpful, rooms small, and food poor quality. Beware of hidden charges! I got nailed with a $16.50 charge (GBP 10.50) for a 2-minute LOCAL phone call.

here is definitely no oomph or extra touch at this hotel. Decoration, rooms, service are all very blah and seem on auto pilot. The building structure is very dowdy and the breakfast room boring. Typical musty carpet as in most Marriotts, stay here only if it serves a purpose as in proximity to someone you are visiting on business or any specific purpose. The hotel is in a almost residential area, although Finchley Road which is a local area with shops, cinemas etc is close by. Interesting part of the stay was that this Marriott has a tie up with some mini cab companies who when called to come pick you up at the hotel or to be dropped off there, charge you five pounds EXTRA for the trip. Should it not be the other way around? A contract is to give you a competitive rate, this is more like a commission. We were not impressed as this was making our to and from very difficult and on ethical grounds refused to pay the extra five pounds. If you can, look for an alternative. I am sure there are a lot of other options available for the price of GBP 309++.

Why is it that the so called cheaper hotels give free WIFI when the Marriott wants to charged, I refused and then went out to a restaurant to eat and had free WIFI.

Stayed here on 14/07/12, arrived at 11.45 and was worried they weren't going to let us check in as some hotels can be awkward with this, pleased to say the man on the front desk had no problems with letting us check in - that was a good start.

Room had two double beds, and they were superb beds, very comfortable, the room also had Sky Sports which isn't usually a big deal but we wanted to watch the boxing at 4am so it suited us and was a bonus. Also a very spacious room. Only criticism of the room was the shower which was average at best.

Swiss Cottage underground station is a few minutes walk to hotel. Good location as well if your coming in on the train from Euston, also in close proximety to Camden if you're looking for a night out. A taxi at 2.00am on a Saturday only cost £9.

Thoroughly recommend this hotel, with you go as a couple or as a group, there were three in our room, but it could have fitted another guest.

We spend five nights at this hotel during a sightseeing vacation around London. We arrived via train from London at St. Pancras and were able to make the connections via the tube to the Swiss Cottage station without any hassle. The proximity to Swiss Cottage is a major draw of this hotel since it is quite easy to get to most of London via this station. The room was very comfortable and the executive lounge was a great place to start and end each day. The staff were always very friendly and the concierge desk was always available to point us to a new adventure such as a nice 15 minute walk to the Camden Town market. Swiss cottage provided plenty of options for dining at night and a 10 minute walk up to the Finchley Road revealed even more. The connection back to Heathrow was painless by taking a cab or tube to Paddington and catching the Heathrow Express. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone working or playing in London.
