“Sardines in a tin”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

We booked a studio with terrace and ended up with a basement flat and an outside space. The room is tiny with a double (?) bed taking up two walls. Sqeezed into the remaining space were walls with cupboards. Congratulations to the person who designed "kitchen" facilities into a wardrobe, open one door - a sink, another - a microwave! A toaster and kettle were provided but electric sockets more or less on the floor. Used the toaster once and the fire alarm went off. No one bothered to respond. Indifferent service from the staff and an obstacle course to get out in the morning with stairs and corridors used for large bags of laundry et al.
A set of folding chairs and table was provided, just no room to get it all out and then move! Bathroom was adequate, continually smelly (drain and cigarette). Shower was good but jus no room to dry yourself afterwards (I am not particularly big!). One needs to adopt a routine, one on the bed whilst the other moves about. THE ONLY SAVING GRACE WAS IT WAS CLEAN and the location. Stay there again - not on your nelly!

When in London, I am always looking for B& B places in Central London. They are clean and cheap and save a lot of hassle for moving about. I just hate to pay out 300 pounds or so for a standard room at a hotel with a big name there. Why should I squander my employer's money? In that respect this place was clean enough and quite well appointed, but it is not B&B, it is just B. no breakfast. Still, lots of places in within walking distance. No worries. The place is located in a rather charming crescent of houses around a small garden and the staff is quite friendly. The furniture could use some improvement in design though. For example, if you hang your suit jacket in the wardrobe, it gets crumpled at the bottom. The compartment is not tall enough. And the telephone is far away from your bed. If you are not in the gardenward side, from your room window you will get a peek into other people's private lives as they will into yours. And just like how Starbucks have their own version of English (small is called tall), they call "tiny" as "large" studio here. I learned from the staff that their "small" is even smaller than "large" but then for the kind of money they are charging, i have paid more than double in a similar sized room at Hilton and have enjoyed the same kind of sleep!

Room Tip: Avoid high rooms. Sure it will block your view, but the view from a top floor room is nothing to wri...

The location is very good: nice neighborhood about a 10-minute walk from the St Pancras train station and walking distance to public transportation in the city (Underground and Bus). We were on a 30-days trip around Europe and chose to stay in a studio to have a break from the hotel atmosphere. People must know it is not a hotel, with daily service (cleaning is once a week) and all frills. It is more like a rented apartment and it is exactly what we were looking for. Our room was big enough. The kitchen was almost complete (I wish it had a dishwasher, but the rest was fine). The shower was very good, but the bathroom was really small. Would definately stay there again in another trip to London.

I really enjoyed my stay at this apartment complex. That's what it is, a complex of studio apartments, and not a traditional hotel. The room was a very generous size with fullly equipped kitchen facilities. This place would be the ideal base for a single person doing business in London.

It is a very short walk to St. Pancras International and King's Cross Railroad stations as well as the London Underground. It is located close to shops, pubs and restaurants.

As this is an apartment, you will not be getting your bed made and towels changed on a daily basis. House keeping services are offered once a week. Fresh towels are available from the front desk if requried. There are free laundry facilites located in the basement.

The room is equiped with wireless Internet, phone and a plasma television. Each room also has individual climate control.

As a North American, I found the double bed a bit on the small side for two people, but if you don't mind sleeping close to a partner, this should not be an issue. If you are on your own, the bed should be fine.

Room Tip: It is a good idea to pay a bit more for the "superior" rooms. They are worth the extra.

Spent 5 nights at Cartwright gardens. Good value for money, and I will be writing down the pros and cons here.

Pros:
-Airconditioned and central heating
-Cooker, microwave, toaster
-Double bed

Cons:
-I never had anyone clean my room, change my towels, etc...The handheld vacuum was broken, so could not clean myself
-The wifi is horrendously slow
-The room is rather cramped, so it's only good for 1 person
-The fridge and freezer make a lot of noise, and will interrupt your sleep

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, avoid.

If you're looking for somewhere to crash for a night around Kings Cross then by all means, if you're looking for somewhere to dazzle and impress then this is going to fall short of the mark... Very, very ordinary and you have to be a contortionist to get i and out of the shower.... Clean enough though...

Booked a double studio apartment for 3 nights while attending a seminar at Senate House UoL. Ideal as just around the corner and then a brisk walk. Apartment clean and tidy, a marvel of how to fit things in a small space but a week would drive me nuts. Ensuite is just right, clean and enough room as long as you don't breath in! It would have been better if we had been at the back of the block due to some traffic/pedestrian noise from the window which is not double glazed. This would make a heck of a difference as there is a cold draught straight onto the pillows due to no headboard on the bed. There was some kind of convector heater (disused) under the window which did not extend the full width of the bed so we had to stuff cushions down into the space next to it or the pillows disappeared. TV is far to big and in a stupid position next to the bed so that you cannot lay in bed and watch it. If it was up on the wall next to the kitchen area it would be better. We could not get anything but Sky programmes in spite of the guestbook saying that BBC and ITV were available but as we could not find a way of watching it this did not matter. All in all good value for money.

Room Tip: book a rear room
