“Royal Court Appartments were just right”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2012

We were excited getting back to London and the Paddington area. We found the Royal Court Apartments with no problems. We were pleased with the service on checking in and the friendly mannerisms of the reception staff. A computer desktop access was available and usefully provided in the lounge area.

We went up to our room and were delighted with the room make-up and accommodations. It was clean and looked well made up for any visitor. The area was a little busier than we thought which was the only downfall of the stay. We were on the road side of the apartments and the windows did little to reduce the sound of the traffic below when we went to sleep and woke up in the morning.

If you stay there, and we would again in a heartbeat, please ask to stay away from the traffic side of the building if you are a light sleeper.

Room Tip: If you stay there, and we would again in a heartbeat, please ask to stay away from the traffic side...

Very close to Paddington St station, which is a great plus. The rooms are very basic, furniture coming mostly from IKEA, but everything is functionable and very clean. Since they offer a full kitchenette with refrigerator, you can save some money purchasing food in a supermarket (e.g. Marx and Spencers located inside Paddington St station). The staff is very polite and friendly, and provides great transportation tips. Bottom line is: no frills, but is definitely worth every penny paid for the stay.

If you are looking for a 3 star hotel, this is not it! The rooms are basic, the bed is an average double and the deco is old and out dated. However the staff is very friendly, the place is clean and you will find everything you need (except from an adaptor and an oven). The location is great: two underground stations at a 5min walk, there are many foreign exchange places with great rates, plenty of cafes, shops and the park just a couple of blocks away. We recomend it if all you need is a place to stay with easy access to all attraccions!

We recently returned from a trip to Paris and London. We stayed at two London properties during our stay and the Royal Court Apartments were by far the nicest (the first hotel was only a few blocks away but was much more expensive and MUCH SMALLER).

When you first arrive, the front desk and hallways leading to your room give the impression the place is a little run down, but once we entered our room, we were absolutely delighted. We had a one bedroom apartment with a separate, spacious living room/kitchen. The kitchen had everything needed - pots and pans, utensils, dishes, etc. - and appeared to have been updated with new counters and stove top.

We had a comfy couch with a large screen TV in the living room, plus a large table to eat at. The bedroom was nicely decorated and the furniture appeared to be fairly new. The bathroom was small, but clean with modern fixtures and tiling throughout (I'm guessing it had been updated within the last year or so).

Everything appeared to be clean and tidy. This property also has free wi-fi, which was not the case at the first hotel we stayed at. The location is good, too. It's a short walk to Paddington Station, a wide variety of eating places, Hyde Park and the metro.

The day we left, we noticed new paint cans in the hallway, so I suspect the property is slowing and steadily getting a facelift throughout. This hotel is definitely a good value for the money. If you prefer a hotel with high-end accoutrements, this isn't the place for you. But if you're looking for a clean, spacious, homey place to stay, you can't beat Royal Court Apartments!

We stayed here in May in an non-refurbished room, but it was okay. The bed was comfortable and the rest of the place was dated, but clean. It was really roomy for a central London hotel. However, I didn't find the front staff especially helpful except for one woman.

We stayed street side, and although I'm a light sleeper, I wasn't bothered by noise. I liked looking out on the street while sipping my tea.

I took a large pre-cruise group during the week of the chelsea flower show, and availability was limited. This place was terrible. Rooms were small, not clean, not reburbished, and were furnished with what looked like goodwill rejects. Temperature in the 80s, and no fans or air co ditioning. Upstairs rooms sweltering. Staff was pleasant, but unable to help with fans, and blamed it on unexpected early heat. One couple located a fan in a closet, but others suffered.
Location was excellent, near Hyde Park, Kensington, Paddington, bus, tube etc, but that was the only positive comment i could find. We all agreed- a real dump!

We stayed here during the Olympics (30 July to 3 Aug, 4 nights), and it was a nightmare.
My parents visited London for the first time, and knowing that they haad not travel to a western country before, we chose self catering so that they could cook if they are not used to the food. We chose Royal Court Apartment having read the Trip Advisor's reviews and saw some of the photos. We paid 520 pounds per night for a 2 bed rooms apartment since there were 4 of us. However, what we got was totally different from what we read and what we paid.

1. The hallway to the room was narrow, dim and dirty. The carpet looked like it has not been washed for years. The floor made crackling sound when you walked. We stayed on the 5th floor and the lift only bring you up to the 4th, so meaning that you have to cary the luggage up to the 5th. From the review, seems that this is the not refurnished part.

2. It stated 2 bedrooms. But one of the bed rooms was so tiny that I wonder if it can squeeze in 2! It was so tiny that the bed was flushed to the end of the wall. If you need to get to the toilet, you probably need to climb over your partner. The wardrobe knob was faulty and we had to use a spoon to pry open it. There was no hair dryer in this room, and you have to use the hair dryer in the other room. The carpets were so dirty that i wonder if they are vaccum daily.

3. There is no AC in the room, it was alright since the typical UK summer would not be that hot. However, the problem was that the windows were faulty, and it would not stay open.

4. The bathroom was another nightmare. The tap made so much noise that you thought a plane was taking off when you on it. So it meant that if you freshen up in the morning, the whole room can hear.

5. The sofa was huge, but again it was damage, the "skin" was falling off.

6. The walls definitely look like it needs a repaint. There were stains on the wall.

The only consolation was the kitchen area, which was well equipped, and my mum can cook a few meals to take a break from the English food. Location wise was convenient, since it was near both Lancaster Gate and Paddington tube.

I understand that hotels are trying to make some money during the Olympics. but for 520 pounds a night, it was a total ripped off.

Avoid it!
