“Good location, convenient, nice breakfast and clean”
Reviewed September 7, 2012 via mobile

I booked a room there mainly because of the location as i didin't like to commute much it was Close to 2 tube stations, It exceeded my expectation as breakfast was great, housekeeping was good, it was winter and the heating was more than enough, friendly staff, even when I asked to change the room, they did it with an upgrade for free. Free wifi or ethernet, It was a perfect place for a solo traveller. However it is next to really cool parks, but won't consider it with the kids.

After reading some of the reviews I can't believe what stresses people out " if the speed of a lift is all you have to worry about, your a very lucky person", don't listen to people who whine look at the facts of all the reviews. This is a 3 star hotel not the Ritz so don't be booking this if you want the luxuries of a 5 star hotel. We stay in 5 star hotels all over the world but we decided to try this out as we got a very good deal. The hotel is 5 mins from Bayswater Tube station which is ideal and 8 mins walk from open topped tourist buses. I have never seen so many varied restaurants in one area and we ate, Mexican, Lebanese, Italian and Chinese for our evening meal the nights we were there and all good except the Chinese in the Whitely's mall at the end of the street, wish we had chosen one of the better ones on the Queensways only 5 mins away. The hotel was clean with an abundance of toiletries in bathroom, plenty of tea and coffee with two packs of biscuits and two sachets of galaxy hot chocolate. The continental breakfast was as you expect, croissants, cereal, toast and preserves, boiled eggs, muffins, orange juice etc you can upgrade to full English for £7.50. In hindsight I would of asked for room only and bought Cooked English breakfast as continental was £6. We had a quad room which was spacious but I heard some twins were quite small. The staff were friendly and helpful, if you had a bit conversation with them they get to know you and have your key immediately on arrival and are much more obliging. There was a small bar £3.60 for a pint of lager which I didn't feel to bad.

Only negative was no aircon like usual 5 star but they provide a fan in your wardrobe, but not many people in the uk have air on in there bedrooms at home so do what you would do in uk, open a window, throw off the quilt and I am sure you'll manage. It was 25 degrees on some days which were a bit warm at night but not the end of the world and it didn't rain.

Hotel was decent 3 star and exceeded our expectations of the star rating as we had nearly everything we needed and good location for transport links to the centre.

Booked four nights. The hotel is about five blocks from the train station, but took a while to find as it's down a side street. Front desk crowded and service very slow. Elevator seems to be run by gerbil power (and big enough to just hold two cuddling gerbils): slowest elevator I found in London! Walked up the stairs most of the time. Room was tiny, with small shower. Bed not great, but acceptable (although small). Bar was merely OK. Better places around the hotel for drinks and food. Not a place I will return to as the value and service just were not there.

Another nice stay at the Phoenix Hotel. The problem with a summer stay is that there is no air-conditioning and the rooms get very hot. The hotel is fine at other times of the year - it is very convenient for Bayswater and Queensway tube stations and for a walk in Kensington Gardens. Just down the street is the Café Anglais for a chic setting and an excellent meal (either snack - soup/omelette or full-course delicious dinner). Next door on the corner is Whiteley's department store which has lots of different shops to explore! Have a good time!

Let me start by saying there is nothing wrong with this hotel and if you need somewhere reasonably priced in London to stay for a couple of nights then this is somewhere you should consider. If there was a three-and-a-half rating on TripAdvisor that's what I'd give it.

It is a couple of minutes from Queensway tube station, a 15-minute walk from Paddington station and situated just north of Kensington Gardens. Plenty of shops, cafes and bars close by.

Breakfast is OK, but nothing to rave about. No room service other than snacks.

My room was a decent size, clean and comfortable. So, if you need a base to explore London and are not too bothered about staying somewhere grand or modern this could be an option for you.

Stayed for 2 nights. Great central location. 5 minute walk to the Tube. The room and bathroom was a good size. Staff very helpful. Breakfast was nice and a good selection available.
Free wi-fi was an added bonus. Very reasonable stay rates.

This hotel is in a great area and is a short stroll to 2 tube stations, Bayswater and Queensway and it is a couple of stops to Paddngton Station. It is a block from Hyde Park and has a vibrant high street with great restaurants, shopping that are open fairly late. It is a safe neighborhood for walking later at night also. Our family loves boutique style hotels but no air conditioning during the recent heat wave in London really hampered our enjoyment of our short stay there. We stayed in the family room with 4 beds and it was bright and fairly spacious for Europe standards but it was up to 29 degrees Celsius some evenings and the fans provided didn't help much. Some great staff there, Tolis and Voila especially but some of the front reception staff were not helpful and welcoming. We understand London was busy for the Olympics but we didn't get a good impression from the front lines staff when we checked in. Decent breakfast in the morning, okay bar. It was great to have free wi-fi and be able to print off boarding passes etc. at the computer for all the guests. One thing we realized about London is that with the excellent transportation system you can stay almost anywhere but get air conditioning in the summer!!!
