“Take the Good With the Bad”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

The London Elizabeth Hotel is just average. The hotel on the outside is very pleasing to the eye. The location is excellent with a bus stop in front and the Lancaster Gate Tube stop across the street. It's in a beautiful building! We stayed in Room 120. They put a King Bed in there for us. It had a beautiful balcony. The bed was comfortable. The ceilings were really high and the room was really large. It had a flat screen TV with plenty of channels. The bathroom was large for a European hotel. Everything worked. There was plenty of hot water for the bath and shower.

The down side of this hotel is the condition of the rooms. They are very run down with needed knob replacements and new wall paper or paint would help. If you are not into a perfect place, then this place is for you. We were there for 9 nights so it was very important for us to have internet access. At times, you could use the internet but more times than not, you would get kicked out while you were on line. I lost my cell phone so communication with home stopped because of their internet access. The staff were always nice but they didn't go overboard to help us with anything. Some of them were better than others. They didn't know how to deal with problems that arised for us. The restaurant inside (The Rose Garden) had pretty good food but one of the dishes, the irish stew, that we ordered had only one piece of meat in it. My husband told the waiter and we were told that the lady who ran the place was trying to cut back on expenses. So the problem wasn't solved. We were not charged for it. It was just tacky. The waiters were very nice. So you will have to decide what is important to you. If you don't have to have the internet or if you don't care about the condition of the room, then this place is for you. I wouldn't stay here again and I can't recommend it to others. This hotel could be so much more!! It's just a pitty!

Thank you for writing to let us know about your recent experiences at the London Elizabeth. We greatly appreciate your feedback and would like to take this opportunity to clarify a few items you raised. First, my most humble apologies for the fiasco over your Irish Stew. This was a complete error on the part of the Chef, one he could have quickly remedied for you but for whatever reason, he chose not to and then added insult to injury by falsely passing the buck onto someone else. This is unacceptable behaviour and internal measures have already been taken to ensure it does not ever happen again in any guise.

May I also reassure you that we do have a through remodeling program under way and have already completed many of the rooms requiring attention. We anticipate finishing our remodel by spring next year and I think you will find the changes to your liking.

I was concerned to read about the difficulties you experienced with your WiFi. I have had the matter looked into and it appears there was a loose cable in the wall that serviced you and 2 other rooms. I apologize that our staff were unable to repair this small matter during your stay. In addition to our bedrooms, WiFi is also available in our boardroom, our restaurant and bar, the terrace, our lobby and all other communal areas of the hotel. Because the main router is located in this general area of the hotel, you could have continued to communicate with your family in one of these areas while you were experiencing difficulties in your room.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the price fit into our budget. The room was spacious for a small London hotel and included a full bathroom. The staff was very courteous. Our room was tidied up every day and new toiletries placed out daily. We enjoyed reading the free newspapers offered and the staff were very helpful in directing us to places we were looking to tour. It was close to the tube and right across the street from Hyde Park so we enjoyed walks in the park several times during our visit. Also, the pub next door, The Swan, was a very reasonably priced place to eat with good food.

Room Tip: We had a room on the first floor so only had one flight of stairs to climb. They have a lift but ve...

After Strolling through Hyde Park (and science museum), this was the perfect spot for tea! They have a lovely rose garden in the back and the weather that day was wonderful. The tea was traditional, delicious and inexpensive. Plenty of clotted cream, scones and finger sandwiches. The only down side was that the this is a downtown area, so the the garden is next to a loading area. When there was a truck there, it was a little noisy, but as soon as it left - perfection!

Excellent location right next to Hyde Park and subway station. Lovely staff. Our room in the third floor was a bit hot even it was october but that is much better than cold. Not very comfortable beds but we slept well. Lovely breakfast room and quite nice breakfast also. Reasonable price for a London hotel .

I stayed in the London Elizabeth for 5 days in August. We booked it as a cheap hotel, and we thought it would be a 'Premier Inn' standard. We was wrong. The stairs are VERY dangerous, when we walked on it the stairs were sort of leaning and didn't feel that strong, this IS a safety hazard. The 4th floor, floor felt very flimsy like the stairs and never felt safe. The lift was ok, but could only fit 2 adults in and we were a party of 6 (3 rooms) so this took longer. Couldn't fault the location though, right next to the tube station (Lancaster Gate) and the Tube was on the Central line which meant you could go to all the main places like Oxford Street, also a bus stop was outside the hotel with all the bus numbers we needed.

The bathroom was full of grime. The food in the morning was adequate and sadly the outside lounge was for smokers, and me who HATES smoking found it sad that we had to have our nightly drinks inside. I guess this is all you would expect from a cheap, but old hotel. Would stay here again but only if the hotel gets refurbished.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experiences at the London Elizabeth. We truly appreciate receiving feedback regarding our hotel. If I may, I would like to clarify a few points raised by you: you are absolutely correct that our lift is bijou and cozy. Many consider it romantic but label it as you will, it is indeed small. We would all trade our right arms for a larger lift however are prevented from doing so by English Heritage as we are a Listed Victorian Building. For those who suffer from claustrophobia, using the staircase is indeed the best alternate option for you.

The staircase mentioned is original, was built in 1850 and as stated does narrow slightly with a very slight tilt towards the top. For some this may be a little disconcerting, but please let me reassure you that our staircase is absolutely safe, is in excellent condition and checked regularly by the local authority. We strictly follow all fire and safety regulations and are continuously rated highly by the fire brigade for our compliance which is backed up with written documentation and is always available for one to review. However, if you are at all concerned, please request a room on a lower floor for your next stay.

We found the hotel room comfortable. The staff were wonderful. Reception helped us get to our destinations. The wait staff always helpful. We really wanted to be close to Hyde Park, which was right across the street. We weren't awakened by any street noise at night, something that is unusual in large cities.

If you are looking for an overnight stay in a central location in London look no further that the gem that is the London Elizabeth Hotel at Lancaster Gate. Lovely room, friendly helpful staff and public transport amenities right on your doorstep or if you fancy strolling, Hyde Park is right opposite to take a leisurely walk to Marble Arch. Prices for the lunch and dinner menu are more than comparable to any restaurant, we defy anyone to find a meal cheaper anywhere else!
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: A suite on the lower ground floor is excellent - no noise from traffic considering its location.
