“Big boys toys in their original historical setting.”
Reviewed April 9, 2012

Anyone who likes the RAF museum, the Tank Museum or The Imperial War Museum will love this. On a Thameside site with lots of open space around it is quiet and ideal for kids to run around or picnic. The exhibits are sensibly arranged with the larger items in a separate hall. There is a good cafe but access is difficult as the surrounding area is being re-developed.Medal enthusiasts should enquire beforehand as one of the country's best collections lies behind locked doors, avbailable at certain times.
The nice little guide book is remarkably cheap at 50p and the whole complex provides a good family day out at a remarkably low price.Nearby is Eltham palace also worth a visit.

Try and visit early in the morning (they open at 10 am) and you can arrange for a personal tour at recertion. Over £5 to get but there are some very interesting exhibits of ordanance .
It's about 5/10 mins walk from the main square for BR and local buses

“Good museum - not for everyone though!”
Reviewed December 15, 2010

This is a really great musuem for artillery enthusiasts, modellers and military historians. Those who don't fall into those categories may find it a little boring.
Most of the modern guns aren't roped off so you can gain access to photograph and measure details if you are modeller. Kids will be amused by the interactive games provided at various points.
Try and go when they are using their blank-firing 25 pounder gun!
Served by National Rail from London Bridge and there's a boat service into the city from a nearby pier.
