“Excellent location, but not a neighbourhood for a hostel”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

There are two good things about this place - one is location (very close to Paddington station) and the other is breakfast.
In the title I said it's not in the right neighbourhood, and that is because it is in residential area, in a private street, and you must keep the noise under control all the time (which is not the good vibe for the hostel, I would say).
The dorms are very tiny, and if I didn't share a room with my family it would be very uncomfortable.
As others already wrote, there is no free wifi in the hostel, which nowadays I find a big minus.
On the good side, the breakfast is very good and you can eat as much as you like.
The staff on the reception was helpful and nice.

Simply choose this hostel for the proximity to Paddington station to get the train to Heathrow. But won't stay here again. No warm friendly staff and not accommodating. It just doesn't have that social hostel vibe. The main issue - so many extra charges: the worst being NO free WIFI, towel was very expensive, deposit for the card. Breakfast was included but really was just some cereal and bread with tea and coffee but it was always crazy and busy. Horribly old bathroom with mould on the ceiling. 6 bed female dorm had enough room but the carpet was old and smelly. There was no curtain to block out the window. You could tell that it had been quickly converted into a hostel. Large lockers in the room that were a bonus. There was a sever lack of common spaces to relax. Large school groups here. Really average to poor. Gave it a 2/5 because the no free wifi is usually a standard feature of hostels.

Me and other students from our school where very excited about staying in this 'beautiful' hostel but the photos deceived us. We where making our way up to the rooms and based on the pictures off the website it was supposed to be colorful, clean and full of life but the dreary walls where misleading as it took us about 30 mins to find our room. In our room it was appalling, for starters it was freezing, the cleaners left all the windows open and even though the radiator was on full, it was doing no justice. In the corner of our room on the roof, there was 'what appeared to be' a nest of some sort of insect, further down the wall was mold and specks of dirt in the middle of the ceiling. The sheets seemed OK until we took a closer look, i spotted some blood on my sheet, indicating that they weren't thoroughly washed. One of my friends actually spotted a bug underneath the bottom layer of the bed and there was snot under neath the pillow case, it was vile to look at. There was limescale on the shower and hair in the drain and we couldn't come round to using the shower and ended up washing our hairs over the sink. Personally i am not a fan of this equity point London Hostel as not only is in a bad part of London 'Paddington' but its not worth the cost. We where all glad to get back home, not to mention the rooms where freezing during the night and if you are staying i recommend you bring some blankets as only a fleece blanket is offered and it doesn't keep you warm. Breakfast is nice though.

Stayed here on a college trip and after reading the bad reviews thought I'd would have been better not to go! However I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived!
We had a room for 6 but only 4 of us were in the room and because I knew all of my friends I wasn't bothered about the lockers not working or the communal wardrobe! However if you are using this hostel on your own I would recommend going somewhere else!
The beds themselves are bunk beds which are ok but by no means luxury however we didn't do much sleeping so this didn't bother us either!
The bathroom was very clean which again from the bad reviews was a nice surprise!
The best thing about this hotel is the location! It was literally a 2 minute walk from paddington underground station which was a relief at the end of the day knowing you didn't have to walk very far back to a warm room!
The breakfast was served from 7 30 till 10 but it was just toast and cereal with a few juices to drink so I didn't bother with it after the first day as there were many eating places en route!
Overall if your going there on a school/college trip don't panic it's nowhere near as bad as the reviews make out but if you want luxury/comfort avoid this hostel!

Having stayed in Equity Point’s sister hostel in Barcelona some years ago with friends, I was hopeful about the London branch and wasn’t disappointed.

The Hostels location near by London’s legendary Paddington station, could be a little out of the way for some visits – however the neighbourhood more than makes up for a little extra time spent on the tube or buses. A pleasant tree lined row of Georgian houses.

Inside Equity Point it’s owners have obviously spent time cultivating it’s modern multicoloured interior. The tube map like colour scheme, and fiber-optic signage might not be to everyone’s cup of tea, but you have to give them the points for effort.

The bedrooms are better equipped and thought out than many more expensive hotel rooms I’ve stayed in. The eight-bed room I stayed in had reading lights and electrical sockets dedicated to each bed (both tops and bottom bunks) and it’s own en-suite all in pleasingly perfect working order.

So that’ll also keep the target market happily tapping on laptops and other electricity gobbling gadgets as long as they feel the need to better explore London’s sights via Google map.

Unfortunately Equity Point do however feel the need to extort an extra few pounds from gadget hungry guests pockets. The wifi provided throughout the hostel is charged at an additional cost.
As the front desk sign featuring the costs per day/hour declares: “I am not included”. The generally friendly front desk staff grimace momentarily when regularly asked to repeat their signs plea: “it’s not included”.

Similarly disappointing is the lack of any cooking facilities available.

Everything about the hostel is clearly the work of an organisation who know what they’re trying to do, and they do it well. The HostelBookers award the group have earned is well deserved.
The only draw back to the Equity Point becoming quite so good at what they do is that it occasionally feels slightly clinical, and results in a general lack of any atmosphere around the hostel. But for many that will be a small trade for efficiency.

Staff are polite certainly, but come across a little disinterested. The breakfast is a standard, if busy affair, as are check in and check-out, however it tends to feel a little like everybody is simply trying to make their way as quickly and effectively as they can to somewhere else. Perhaps that explains the tube themed décor.

A well put together hostel, with nearly all the rights parts (just not the kitchen sink) all it really needs is a little more heart.

I stayed in a four bed female dorm which provdied a good nights sleep in terms of noise however there is a sensor light inside the door and as I was on the top bunk closest to it, it would turn on every time I moved at night, annoying!

This hostel is a little on the expensive side and not really worth it. The 'free' breakfast is quite handy and the rooms were relatively clean however the day staff are rude and uninterested in helping people, the night staff were better though!

The shower in my room went from freezing to boiling in two minutes and it took 3 days to get fixed.

In terms of location, it is a short walk to Paddington station which will get you pretty much anywhere you need to be.

Room Tip: Try and ask for a bottom bunk, or at least the top bunk away from the door (and sensor light!).

there was a pube in the bath, the breakfast was basic and unhygienic(flies on the bread), cleaners came in the room and possessions were moved and we had to buy padlock incase things were stolen. we got threatened to be kicked out for talking after 11pm. IT WAS A P**S TAKE!! STAINS ON THE CARPET AND BEDDING!!!

Room Tip: Get one on 1st or 2nd floor because the stairs are steep and narrow, impossible to carry a suitcase...
