Two friends & I traveled for three weeks throughout Europe and the Curzon House Hotel was the first stop on our journey. I’m just happy to say that our hotels’ qualities did improve from there on. We stayed in a triple-room for five nights; it was a decent size, we were lucky it had a nice little balcony off of the window with nice views of the quiet little street and a big English garden across from us. Those were about its only redeeming qualities.
The beds weren’t too comfortable and didn’t seem very clean. Another fairly big issue was with the bathroom. They were public ones located on each of the floors, and we were lucky to be located right next to one… so it should have (in my mind) been fairly easy to access. This was not the case. In the mornings, you would hear the bathroom door opening & shutting but each time you went to check on it, it was occupied. It was always occupied. The toilet paper also seemed to run out on a regular basis, not always being replenished in time. Also, the one day we were there, someone left the shower running for hours, flooding the floor, which was a pleasant addition to our day.
I did attempt to eat breakfast the one morning there, but traveling down to the lower floor for some stale bread and instant coffee wasn’t worth the effort, especially with the uber-crowded conditions of the kitchen, leaving no open seating or even standing room.
The staff was unhelpful, composed completely (that I saw) of young people who were completely apathetic to any of our needs. I’m pretty sure they were receiving free lodging there but being forced to sit behind the reception desk as payment for it.
I absolutely loved the city of London but needless to say was quite happy to move onto our next city & next hotel without a doubt. Though the rooms were an okay rate for this city, I’m sure that somewhere nicer does exist for that amount. Oh, and did I mention the cockroach?...
